Developing well
daisywiggs16 November 2021
It usually takes an episode or 2 for characters to find their niche. I like the way the actors are melding now. It is happy and cute. Nice distraction.

Another Disney remake with a difference
jpcdee14 September 2021
I had forgotten that this was being made, so when I saw this on Disney+, it surprised me. So I'm watching this now and I am actually really impressed. Making Doogie a girl was a great idea. And the meta connection of saying that this child prodigy was nicknamed because of the Doogie Howser TV show from the 90s was a terrific touch. Of course it means we don't get to see a 40 something Howser in a character cameo, but we might get to see Neil Patrick Harris in an actor cameo. The series has plenty of potential!

Poor writing for a 30+ minute length
jeffkresse-814-34596912 September 2021
Warning: Spoilers
My one complaint is that the writers did a poor set up on Barry Bostwick's hospitalized character. Doogie spends less than two minutes screen time talking to Bostwick's character and when he dies unexpectedly there is several times as much screen time on Doogie's resulting sadness and lament. That is just poor writing and unforgivable in a show of limited length. Instead it should have been at least a two or three episode arc to establish the power of loss and resulting grief. While the show was kind of fun moving forward they should get new writers so adults and not just preteens can enjoy it and make it successful.

Show grew to awesome final episode!!
bluemanmtl30 November 2021
Really loved Doogie Kamealoha MD, for me the show got off to a slow start, original rating 7⭐, feeling a bit one dimensional, but the show got better & better with each episode, adding depth to the characters and to the show, with S1E10 being best, so beautiful & touching😭💙; final rating 9⭐!!! Awesome setting, wonderful acting, funny, love dramedies, great sound track and love giving Hawaiian stuff real place in show!!!

Was this in a time capsule?
scribblersltd9 September 2021
Warning: Spoilers
I can respect that the remake would pay homage to the original, but this episode was so exactly the same for the first ten minutes it appears as though this was the female version of the pilot, and they decided to go with the male doctor instead with Neil Patrick Harris. The opening scene was virtually identical. The doctor is taking a driver's test for a 16th birthday gift and comes upon an accident. Then decides to speed up to the dismay of the driving examiner and comes upon the scene where someone is suffering from an injury. Two cops are there and try to ward the kid off who shows the wallet threatening criminal negligence if they don't let the kid work. The victim is then treated with a hip rotation and the driving instructor asks who the kid was with the parent saying the doctor. The next scene is identical too. A heart patient that needs a transplant but the doctor doesn't agree with the head of cardiology. Just how much has to be completely identical to the original. 30 years have passed....they should at least make an attempt to put something new in.

Talk about a real "never doubt yourself" show
Matt-Dawg42022 August 2022
I love everything about this series, a 16 year old genius doctor, a very chill surfer dad and a busy-body mom trying to balance being a mom and running a hospital. It's awesome to see how Lahela learns that being a doctor doesn't translate to other skills, how Claire learns to try to go with the flow, how Benny helps everyone find the beauty in life. I hope to see more development between Kai and B. P., I'd also love to see what happens when Walter goes on tour and how Lahela handles that feeling along with (hopefully) being promoted to Chief of Residence.

Meh
zoezoe1199929 October 2021
It's okay, but the best friend makes it hard to enjoy as she always seems to be trying to take over the scene rather than elevate it. I don't think it's necessary to have a bestie anyway considering she's a genius and a resident, as a nurse I know they usually work pretty grueling hours and are exhausted and underpaid. I know it's not supposed to focus on the medical side though I don't think there are any alarming inaccuracies, I also like how it focuses on things more likely to occur where the show is based. It's a typical show with a teenage girl do teenage girl trying to teenage girl things while balancing her busy unique life. I love seeing Hawaii too!

I LOVE IT
mialaladesign11 January 2022
This was a serie that I've been putting off, because I thought I wouldn't like it because I thought it was childish. I was completely wrong, I loved the serie I saw it in 2 days, and I really want to see more, I hope there is a second season. 🙏 I loved the cast, excellent actors and actresses, I laughed a lot with the episodes, this series is super well done, good images from hawaii, good vibes, good soundtrack. I LOVED IT.

I am so sad that it ended today 😭

Lazy Disney
jnminota12 September 2021
As usual Disney is too lazy to be creative and come up with something original.

Underrated for sure
andrewrparker-0272322 January 2022
This show is actually pretty good. Really enjoyed watching it with my daughter. Was a huge fan of the original NPH version, but this show pays neat (and funny) homage to it in episode one and then goes on to develop its own thing. Very funny at times, for family humor, and very well cast - we love the characters. Especially good for adults and kids together. I don't even usually like Disney stuff, but try this.

Really disappointed
thefirsthogokage12 November 2021
Warning: Spoilers
I didn't really have a problem with the acting; however, the writing was noticeably poor. So, honestly, four stars is probably generous.

When they were trying to give us information about the characters, the way that information was delivered, was very badly done. It would seem like two characters who were supposed to have known each other for years didn't know each other at all. It really feels like these characters were just dropped in this setting and with each other out of nowhere.

Some things were used as plot devices, I get that, but it really highlighted how bad the writing was. The main character had no idea how much money she made? So, she was never curious about that at all?! Come on, she's a teenager! And pretty much everyone on the planet would want to know that!

They had her operate on her boyfriend because no one else was available? Really?? And she's says she can't do that, but ends up having no problem with it at all? What?

The messaging is all wrong here in multiple episodes. Doogie takes her mother's shoes, sells them, and not once did anyone say, "this is wrong because it wasn't your property to do that with." If you are watching this with your kids, that's an important lesson to teach them. And in the season finale, two of her adult colleges encourage her to basically disobey her parents and run away from home off to another country with her boyfriend because it's an important big step in her life - again, she's a MINOR - while a third just says "we'll miss you". That whole episode was entirely messed up.

They have an episode where the parents were favoring their son, and completely not notice the way that effected their daughter, and then in the next episode had the mom spout the line "a mom always knows." Yeah, because she was so on top of things the previous episode.

Oh, and Doogie's boyfriend that she kissed multiple times? Notice how he doesn't look 16? Yeah, he's played by a 24/25 year old. Doogie's actor was 16/17 when this was being filmed. Deeply unsettling to watch.

I'm sure I had other problems with the show while watching, but those were huge things that stuck out. Not a show to watch if you can't help but think critically. A decent show to watch to find out what NOT to say to your kids, but not a show I would want to watch with my children if I had any. If you can shut your brain off and watch, good for you, I wish that had been me.

All in all, another bad Disney live active show (that isn't supposed to seem like it's in front of a live audience), except with a beautiful setting and decent acting by most of the cast that can trick you into thinking it's better than it actually is.

If they get a second season, I hope their writing improves drastically. However, I'm not willing to waste my time watching it to check if they were able to do so.

Season 2 is fire
purebloodfanpire2 April 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Season 2 is literally the best season with a love triangle.

The add of Milo as Nico Laheala's bad boy cancer patient that she falls in love with. A French kiss perfection.

Milo & Peyton has such amazing chemistry. The 1st kiss in the rain is what cinematic dreams are made of.

Yes, I'm a 35 yr old women watching a teen show, but I'm a sucker for romance. Episode 9...damn hot.

In the last episode she has to pick between Walter & Nico. She picks herself of course, but I still have hope for her & Nico yet

Also Charles & Noeliani are 2 of the best parts of the show w/comic relief.

I hope & pray they bring back Milo for season 3.

I NEED SEASON 3 INSTANTLY
myfavouritesgouda3 April 2023
I need a season 3 so badly. Nico and Lahela are my favourites. This show is such a good one, good teen show, such a tearjerker but a happy one. I want Nico and lahela together so badly, Walter just isn't as good. I love the little brother. The best friend is so cute too.

So sweet...
esperanzaraymundok27 November 2021
This show caught me with episode 1. In the 10 episodes, I was taken on a journey with Dr. Lahela "Doogie" Kamealoha through her life as a prodigy. The journey included the ups and downs of her life and why she goes by Doogie (which was a very touching episode). Other reviews stating about how some actors should fix something cosmetic need to grow up, not everything about everyone is perfect! I love this show and am one hoping and waiting for more seasons!!!

Great Remake
bec-0899613 November 2021
We looked forward every Wednesday to see new episodes... hopefully there will be more seasons. Characters were well mixed, storylines were fleshed out well... Will be sad if it's discontinued.

It's no Doogie Howser
challen869 September 2021
Not sure why everyone in Hollywood insists on rehashing old hits. They were hits for a reason and their success cannot be duplicated. This is teenage dribble with very little to keep the fans of the O. G. Doogie interested.

A great family show.
madison_ladd30 November 2021
I don't understand why this show is receiving so much hate. Doogie Kamealoha, M. D. is a super cute and wholesome show. I am a mother to two young/pre-teen daughters. This show has turned out to be a perfect mix of Disney kid friendly with a slight preteen edge to it. It has also taught some valuable lessons. We watched it together as a family and we all really enjoyed it. The adult humor that is slipped in is my favorite.

We recommend it and are very hopeful that there will be a season 2!

More, please.
macisizemore10 September 2021
Absolutely LOVED it! As an original Doogie fan, I was little concerned that this would turn out terrible... but I was so wrong. I also loved how they didn't reboot Doogie and gender bend. (Nothing against either of those, they are just doing it too much anymore) They even mentioned Doogie as a being a tv show and not a real person that she's named after. I think that made all the difference. And the casting! Such a good job. I don't think anyone could have played it better. (Well, besides Neil Patrick harris) It was funny, and heart warming, and I just over all enjoyed every bit of it. I think her love interest would be way better if it was the kid she was crazy about in Andi Mack though. Lol.

My suggestion is ignore the stars and the reviews here and watch it. If you hate it, you hate it. If you don't, you don't. Some of these reviewers are middle aged and trying to critique these kids shows for being too immature or, well, age appropriate. It is still designed for kids. 🤷‍♀️

Only good for vapid teenagers
Windrider69 September 2021
The target audience is clearly 18 years-old and under. Extreme medical heroics and jargon from a 16 year-old to impress that audience, then simplistic teenage clichés to appeal to them.

Connecting this show to "Doogie Howser, M. D." in any way was a mistake because it brought the attention of adults like myself who were fans of the original show. The original show had appeal to a wider age range, since it did not focus primarily on teenage banality.

I love this show so much! I know people are like "oh wow, disney isnt creative" but i like this better because its a 90's show spinoff that appeals to gen z. I wait for wednesday like it's christmas. And this show has actually inspired me quite a bit, in a lot of ways! My favorite show!

Don't bother.
metdvls-19 September 2021
Worst remake on the planet. Disney thinks putting "Doogie" in the name it will get adults to watch with their kids. Why just bring Neal Patrick Harris back instead.

Heartwarming, funny and relatable
crimsontkd8 September 2021
Being born and raised in Hawaii, this first episode was amazing to watch. All the little connections to Hawaii that us locals will understand was awesome to see. I thought the actors did an amazing job. I was a big fan of Andi Mack so seeing Peyton in this role was not hard for me. She does an amazing job portraying Doogie. Emma Meisel as her best friend was so fun. She's got this energy that is great to watch and she's funny. Jason Scott Lee as the Dad is every local boys dream of doing what they love for a living and he's awesome in this role. Kathleen Perkins is amazing as always and as Dr. Clara Hannon, it's no different. Also love that another local boy Matt Sato got an opportunity to play a role in this show as Doogie's older brother. All in all, a great first episode that made me laugh, cry and smile. Can't wait to see more. 🤙🏼

So much hate
dreamingwolf-012539 September 2021
I don't know why there is so much hate. It's only aired 1 episode and it wasn't bad. I do believe the episodes should be longer though.
