Richard Cyper rescues Kahlan, a mysterious confessor from the Midlands sent to give the Book of Counted Shadows to the one true seeker. Zed, an old man who lives nearby, tells Richard that he is this seeker and gives him the Sword of Truth.

Richard Cypher's happy youth ends abruptly after Kahlan, a white witch from an ancient order, magically crosses the near-impenetrable border from the Midlands, Darken Rahl's grim D'Haran empire, to his own, yet pacific world. Richard's father George Cypher is killed, actually by Ranssyn Fane, an officer pursuing Kahlan, but he manages to make even Richard's big brother, the local first counselor Michael. Kahlna finds the great wizard Zeddicus "Zed" Zu'l Zorander and makes him help her explain to Richard his destiny, actually being adopted by George. Richard rejects it, but sword and magical book that come with it soon persuade him to accept becoming the Seeker, destined to stop Rahlan's bid to establish a dark world rule.—KGF Vissers

Richard pillaging and murdering? Unless the entire context of the series flows entirely opposite from Terry Goodkind's book, the initial listed synopsis is flat out wrong. Let's try the following out and see how it works:

Darken Rahl (Craig Parker), a tyrant who wants to expand his empire into the Midlands, sends soldiers to obtain the Book of Counted Shadows, which is in the possession of a Confessor named Kahlan Amnell (Bridget Regan). Kahlan crosses the magical boundary into Westland, a land of no magic, in search of a wizard. In Westland, Kahlan meets Richard Cypher (Craig Horner), a woodsman who helps her escape the soldiers. Kahlan finds the wizard, Zeddicus Zu'l Zorander (Bruce Spence), and insists that he take her to the Seeker. Richard, who was sent by his father to Zedd, meets them and discovers that he is the Seeker, the person prophesied to defeat Rahl. One of the soldiers, Ranssyn Fane (Andrew Robertt), kills Richard's father and takes the Book of Counted Shadows from Richard. Come along in this tale of danger, love, deceit, and betrayal.
