The producers of "Hollywood Trials" invited actors in Ireland to apply for this show. 500 did and it was whittled down to 10. Unfortunately, most of the 10 actors selected have already made it as actors in Ireland. New talent was not given a chance.
The acting community in Ireland is small and it was the same old faces from Irish TV that were picked (clearly the selection process was rigged in their favour). The most glaring inclusion is that of Mikey Graham from Irish boy-band "Boyzone." He's not an actor or even a very good singer, he's a chancer who got extremely lucky indeed. He's now calling himself "Michael" Graham in a misguided bid for credibility. At one stage, he was deservedly about to be kicked off the show, when casting director Ros Hubbard (who had clearly been instructed to keep him in), objected that: "He's well-known and everyone loves him!" The show is about acting talent, not how much you're known or loved! I would also dispute her assertion that everyone loves him. (I certainly don't!) Was Mikey Graham really in a selection line with 500 unknowns? Nope. His place was reserved from the start. What a pity that the producers wasted the time of the 500 people who applied. They never had a chance of being on this show.
Once it got to Los Angeles, the show got much better. It was an interesting insight into how tough it is to make it as an actor in Hollywood. None of the actors on the show are good enough to make it in Hollywood and, if anything, it gave them all an overdue reality check on their limited abilities.
