Probably One of the Worst Films Ever Made!!!
perfectx-714157 July 2021
Everyone who reviewed this film is definitely working for the movie because there is almost no redeemable value to this garbage. The story sucks! The acting is amateurish. The camera work and editing are horrible and jumpy. Even the nudity is shot so badly with almost no light that it took the fun away from seeing these two gorgeous ladies showing you their amazing bodies. What can I say besides avoid this piece of trash at all cost.

I love bad movies.. but this...
bluemoose-3460830 December 2023
The Good Sisters. A movie about witches.. or maybe ultra-paranoid meth addicts who think they're witches. It's hard to tell. Bad acting. Bad scenery. Appalling dialog being clumsily chunked out. "Surrealistic" scenes that make you wonder if you've been slipped some bad acid. Plot weak and clumsily clichéd at best. Inexplicable ending. Overall dumb. There IS one laugh in this film but I'm afraid it's too little too late. I personally love bad movies and weird odd stuff and I can usually find something to appreciate in a terrible movie.. I had extreme difficulty with The Good Sisters. Kudos to anyone who can cringe their way through this thing.

The Good Sisters-JimmyO,April and Debbie Strike Gold!!
ravenheart0227 February 2010
Warning: Spoilers
I had the pleasure of viewing this last night. When I first heard news about this movie,I had a feeling that I was going to enjoy it but now after seeing it,it easily exceeded my expectations. As much as I loved Chainsaw Sally (its still my favorite JimmyO/April movie),I really enjoyed the darker, more serious aspect of this movie and hope to see more movies like this from JimmyO and April in the future.

Both April and Debbie did incredible jobs in their roles as Breanne and Kindra good and I can only hope to see both of them starring together again at some point. They just compliment each other so nicely that it was almost like they were born to work together. It was also nice to see Aaron Martinek and Brad Smoley in more serious roles. It was a nice departure from Zeke and Earl from Chainsaw Sally.

What I enjoyed best about the movie was that it always kept me guessing.I thought I had figured out where everything was leading to but by the end,I was actually happy that I turned out to be wrong.

Definitely check this movie out if you get the chance.

Conjuring the occult back from the dead!
slewi02020 January 2010
Warning: Spoilers
I've come to the conclusion that a good old fashioned occult movie has been missing from the horror buffet in recent years. The last notable one that can be recalled at the moment is the 1996 teenage girl angst film The Craft. So, what is the deal? Has the fascination with witches and warlocks turned its more diabolical stride to a far more suitable and profitable family friendly direction like Harry Potter? Hopefully, the occult genre revives itself like the zombie genre did when it flourished in the mid 70's to mid 80's, died in the 90's and then exploded into overkill with the start of the new millennium. Director JimmyO Burril's The Good Sisters will jump start the idle heart of the occult genre, bringing back the erotic and satanic roots that once were the delightful mix for many predecessors such as Witchboard, Witchcraft and Warlock.

Breanne and Kindra Good are descendants of a great witch condemned during the Salem Witch Trial era and they still conduct their ancient, passed down beliefs of black magic. The sisters live in a renovated boarding house-turned-apartment complex with seven other tenants. Danial Hopkins, the newest tenant directly below them, still hasn't unpacked after months of settling and his awkward behavior sends the sisters into a paranoid state that quickly spreads among all the tenants as a conspiracy theory against the two witches. Breanne and Kindra trust no one and seek to stop them before the inevitable witch hunt happens.

Neither the cover art nor the first glance of The Good Sisters give it any kind of credible justice of being a "good" film and I'll be the first to admit that I judged it too hastily. You can't judge a film by its cover apparently. What seems like a slow burn through the first two acts is just a gradual boil until the pressure builds and it can no longer be contained. It pops in your face, splashing scorching hot disbelief and leaving a residual yet welcome it-feels-so-good burning scar. My beady eyes were glued to the TV and sadness had a tight hold on me as I remembered the occult films of my youth. A cynical smile steadily grew as The Good Sisters took charge of their paranoia, removing a reverend's heart, performing incestuous sexual rituals and using a Ouija board to conjure beyond-the-dead advice! Director JimmyO's wife, April Monique Burril, plays "Kindra Good", the suspicious sister who always believed that their neighbors were plotting witch hunters. You also might recall April from another JimmyO film that is more notable – Chainsaw Sally. April works with Debbie Rochon who is practically the Samuel L. Jackson of B horror films (she's in a lot of movies). The roles of "Breanne" and "Kindra" are perfect for April and Debbie as they fill in the sisters shoes with ease. Their comfort level displayed naturally. My reason for that conclusion comes from their dialog and their physical delivery. Independent films are notorious for hiring barely paid to no paid actors and actresses and the end result of their performances are suspect at best. With The Good Sisters, all the acting between April and Debbie was smooth and that's a breath of fresh air. As for the supporting cast, I will only say that David Calhoun was a believable "germaphobe".

I'm a sucker for a twist ending and The Good Sisters gave it to me; this ending also contributed to the gasping nature of this subtle gem. The Good Sisters will be a great addition to anyone's occult film catalog, or to anyone's collection for that matter as it hits retail shelves February 2nd. Also, if JimmyO reads this review, he has to reveal his secret on how he managed to convince his wife to do a girl-on-girl scene so I can convince my girlfriend to do the same. Supposedly both April and Debbie had surgery before filming and I wanted to know, as I'm sure most of the readers do as well, what kind of surgery was performed because both women looked endowed in all the right places, if you ask me! Get caught in The Good Sisters spell and advance order your copy today before being sacrificed!

Screener review: Great job from Jimmyo, April, and Debbie!
andyrose_tx25 November 2009
This is the third film from Jimmyo Burril, having been preceded by a horror musical titled SILVER SCREAM and the cult classic CHAINSAW SALLY. Jimmyo is currently writing, directing, editing, and putting out a web sitcom, sequel of sorts, to Chainsaw Sally titled The Chainsaw Sally Show. The Good Sisters is a departure from the campy, cheesy, good slasher fun that is Chainsaw Sally. It is a departure into a darker and more sinister horror and Jimmyo makes that journey beautifully. The story is well written, the characters are developed and have greater depth than any of the Chainsaw Sally characters. The film's technical merits are outstanding, from lighting, to sound, to overall excellent cinematography and a killer score. Jimmyo's departure from the "HGL-ish blood and guts campiness", in my opinion, is a success.

Debbie Rochon. Need I say more? Debbie Rochon is a phenomenal actor and the ultimate Scream Queen today. Her portrayal of Breanne Good is no exception. April Monique Burril is given a character with considerable more depth as Kindra Good and she rises to that challenge and performs beautifully along side Debbie. It must have been quite a pleasure for April to have co-starred Debbie and Debbie to star along side April. Two very diverse actors come together to pull a performance believable as long time friends or kin.

Are the Good Sisters good?
regdyer-752-58959815 November 2010
Warning: Spoilers
This was a DVD that I was eager to view as it starred Debbie Rochon, who has impressed me with performances in numerous films in the past, and April Monique Burril, an actress who I had heard a lot of good things about recently. I must admit that I have been occasionally disappointed by the brevity of Debbie's appearances in some of these films as her roles were sometimes in the form of brief cameos. I was, therefore, pleased to note that there was no danger of disappointment on this occasion as Debbie and April justifiably dominate the screen time with their presence in 'The Good Sisters'.

In 'The Good Sisters' we can see two actresses who complement each other perfectly whilst acting out the roles of sisters with different personalities. The outcome is admirable in every respect and full marks must be awarded to both these ladies and to JimmyO Burril for his intelligent approach to the process. The description 'competent' and 'confident' certainly can be applied to director and lead actresses on this occasion.

The film starts at a slow pace which gives ample time during the opening scenes to introduce the viewer to the roles of both main main and supporting characters in a very neat manner. The spotlight is then firmly placed on the Good sisters and one of their neighbours played by David Calhoun. The viewer is subsequently drawn into the developing web of paranoia which is being expertly spun with the gradual planting of the question in the mind - "Are the Good sisters really good?". This is very cleverly done with the suspense then cranked up right to the well executed final scene.

I suspect that we will see Debbie and April appearing together in films again in the future. I sincerely hope that this will materialise as their performances are a joy to watch.

I was impressed with the amount of 'extras' on the DVD version that I obtained with audio commentaries by April, Debbie and JimmyO, a mini feature, an interview with Debbie and JimmyO and April dancing to create the logo!

An Excellent Step Forward For JimmyO, April, Debbie...
tomgleba2 April 2010
I'm currently watching my screener copy of "The Good Sisters" for the second time no less-- and I can honestly say--I can't get enough of this flick!!! This is one of those few "gems" that make wading through the indie DVD scene worth it!! Instead of the "splatstick" route, Director JimmyO crafted a mature, creepy, paranoid throwback to classic 70's occult cinema (I still love Chainsaw Sally--don't get me wrong--this is just in a different, somehow darker vein--if that makes sense). April Monique Burril and Debbie Rochon really show some serious acting chops/range (besides being smoking hot and wearing fantastically sexy outfits!!), and create such a paranoid/claustrophobic vibe in the scenes in the darkened apartment that it's literally "edge of your seat" viewing in points! I can't wait to get ahold of the full blown DVD release with all of the extras, and I also can't wait to see what these two have in store for season 2 of the Chainsaw Sally Show---but I digress, run, don't walk to get a copy of The Good Sisters when it drops, it's indie cinema at it's finest
