The Keepers of the 5 Kingdoms is the latest film in James Hong’s impressive career. It’s a career that goes back to the 1950s, and between then, and now he’s racked up over 450 credits as an actor, including Big Trouble in Little China, Kung Fu Panda, Batman: Soul of the Dragon and Everything Everywhere All at Once. He’s also written and directed a handful of films, most notably the 1989 horror film The Vineyard.

Science fiction drama 3 Body Problem is arriving on Netflix next month, and the first trailer for the show has landed. More here.
Writers David Benioff and D.B. Weiss are perhaps best known for adapting and showrunning HBO’s hugely successful fantasy drama Game Of Thrones, which took the world by storm from its debut in 2011 through to 2019, even if the final series was controversial amongst the fans.
Since then, they’ve concentrated mainly on solo projects – though in recent days we’ve also heard about their brush with the Star Wars-verse. Beinoff wrote the 2019 Ang Lee film Gemini Man, which starred Will Smith, while Weiss wrote the screenplay for the 2022 Netflix teen comedy Metal Lords.
Their return to television sees them at the helm of Netflix science fiction drama called 3 Body Problem.
The synopsis reads as follows:

One of the most celebrated cinematic interpretations of Stephen King is the two-film adaptation of his seminal horror novel "It." Directed by Andy Muschietti, with the movies released in 2017 and 2019, "It" follows the twisted coming-of-age of a group of childhood friends in Derry, Maine. While the seven kids are harassed by neighborhood bully Henry Bowers (Nicholas Hamilton) and his gang of teenage ne'er-do-wells, a different kind of evil festers under Derry. Primarily appearing in the form of Pennywise the Dancing Clown (Bill Skarsgård), this otherworldly monster instills fear in its young victims before consuming them entirely.
Though the creature has haunted the region since ancient times, the first chapter takes place in the summer of 1989. That's when Pennywise surfaces to claim new victims around Derry while setting its sights on the main characters. Finding strength and solace in numbers, these friends refer to themselves share a bond under the banner...

Shelter is the newest addition to the on-screen Harlan Coben Universe. A Young Adult-skewing eight-part thriller, it’s the story of high schooler Mickey Bolitar, who’s recently moved from overseas to his dad’s hometown of Kasselton, New Jersey, where he and his new friends investigate the disappearance of a fellow student. Like any Harlan Coben series, it takes place in a heightened world peopled by memorable villains, shock twists, cliff-hangers, and mysteries that change shape multiple times before they’re solved.
Mickey Bolitar is the star of three novels by Coben – a spin-off trilogy from his hit 11-part book series about Mickey’s uncle Myron Bolitar. Netflix has the rights to that character, so don’t expect to find an actor playing him in the cast rundown below. Here’s more on the actors telling this story.

We’ve already had The Slumber Party Massacre, The Pyjama Party Massacre, Sandy Hook Lingerie Party Massacre, and even The Cheerleader Sleepover Slaughter and now writer/director Calvin Morie McCarthy has given us Pillow Party Massacre. Considering the reviews I gave his previous films I was surprised when the director sent me a screener of Pillow Party Massacre. Being the slasher fan that I am, however, I wasn’t going to question it, just hope for the best.
The film opens at a school dance where, as the last slow song plays Carter and Ashley sneak off for some time alone. But it’s a setup and ends up with Ashley getting humiliated. So humiliated she leaves the dance, and returns with a gun.

Traditionally, January and February are the dumping ground for major Hollywood studios. With awards season in full swing and audiences playing catchup on the biggest titles of the prior year, the first two months are usually the perfect place for dropping projects that don't inspire much confidence. But the rise of streaming is slowly changing that trend. Less concerned about the box office and much more obsessed with keeping their release schedules consistent, streamers like Netflix make sure to always have exciting new titles lined up, dump months be damned. So expect another full slate on the streamer as we enter February. Just because it's the shortest month of the year, doesn't mean we can't still have plenty of fun!
Below is a list (and some curated standout titles) of everything coming to Netflix in February 2023.

Prolific producer Ryan Murphy has delivered Netflix his first no-doubt-about-it certified hit with the oddly titled “Dahmer—Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story” generating 701 million hours of self-reported global viewership in its first three weeks. The only problem is that this smashing success comes just as Murphy’s 2018 overall deal with the streamer, worth up to 300 million, is set to expire next year. The timing highlights the mixed results that Netflix has had after inking a wave of producer megadeals several years ago.
In its third week of release, “Dahmer” remains the No. 1 show on the streaming service, and became the second most popular English-language series in Netflix history, with 701.4 million hours viewed.
Murphy’s envy-inducing contract came one year after Netflix lured ABC broadcast queen Shonda Rhimes for a 100 million deal and then extended it in 2021 (with a hefty raise). The streamer then signed “Black-ish” creator Kenya Barris’ for nine figures,...

Jaeden Martell made his acting debut in 2014's "St. Vincent" before landing his biggest role to date as Loser Club resident Bill in 2017's big-screen adaptation of Stephen King's "It." Since then, Martell has had his hands full with numerous projects, including Apple TV+'s suspense miniseries "Defending Jacob," eerie psychological-thriller "The Lodge," and Oscar-nominated "Knives Out."
Martell, who recently appeared in the Netflix teen dramedy "Metal Lords," is currently gearing up for the upcoming release of "Mr. Harrigan's Phone." The forthcoming horror offering adapts one of King's eponymous short stories published in his 2020 novella, "If It Bleeds." Written and helmed by John Lee Hancock, the chilling story follows Martell's Craig, a young teenager who strikes up an uncanny friendship with reclusive billionaire John Harrigan (Donald Sutherland). In the latest installment of our 2022 Streaming Wars series, some interesting streaming platforms continue to encroach on the overall market dominance of Netflix, for now still the most popular service. As usual, our pals at JustWatch, the streaming fan’s go-to resource for locating every film and TV title online, compile a quarterly assessment of Streaming Video On Demand (SVOD) engagement from U.S.-based fans on their site. That is to say, they measure which titles are most frequently searched for, and from which streamers those titles stem.
From the second quarter of 2022 (spanning April 1-June 30), it appears that Netflix’s stateside stranglehold over the market dipped by 2. The web’s original go-to streaming destination now leads its closest competitor, Prime Video, by the slimmest of margins, 21 to 20, when it comes to gauging fan interest on JustWatch. In a film that sings the praises of heavy metal music and reveres those who create it, “Metal Lords” stumbles in its ability to truly rock. Director Peter Sollett’s coming-of-age feature centered on two teen outcasts who form a hardcore metal band explores some fairly unexpected, dark recesses given its lighthearted, comedically-inclined premise. Sex, drugs and rock ’n’ roll are on the set list, yet it plays too fast and loose, failing to achieve a good balance to make the chords reverberate louder. And just as it begins to get into its groove, the song abruptly ends.

There hasn’t been a “battle of the bands” since an unfortunate scrotal incident scarred many a teen not expecting nudity a few years back, but the mere mention of the possibility Dean Swanson (Sufe Bradshaw) decided to give her students another shot has Hunter Sylvester (Adrian Greensmith) salivating. The problem: he doesn’t have a band. Wanting one and having one are two different things and Dad’s (Brett Gelman) money can only get Hunter so far before a reality check proves necessary. That’s the one thing he refuses to accept, though. His love for metal and unyielding determination given as a sacrifice to the genre’s Satanic gods must manifest success into existence no matter how many enemies are made in the process.

It seems like the Covid-induced fallow period in which there wasn’t enough new movies or TV shows to watch has truly ended. It would probably be impossible to keep up with everything coming out in April, which includes everything from a Covid-themed comedy to a tale of Mormons and murder. It also includes a new film from one of Texas’s greatest filmmakers. Let’s start with that.

“Ozark” fans, rejoice. The Jason Bateman and Julia Garner-starring drama series is returning to Netflix in April with a second part to its fourth season — and it’s just one of many other hotly anticipated titles coming to the streamer this month.

Netflix’s list of new releases for April 2022 is highlighted by the return of one of the great sci-fi comedies ever. Natasha Lyonne is set to return as the temporally displaced Nadia on Russian Doll season 2 on April 20. "Metal is power. Metal is speed. Metal is... the key to everything." Netflix has revealed an official trailer for Metal Lords, a new rock band comedy made by filmmaker Peter Sollett. Based on a script written by D.B. Weiss. This one is arriving on Netflix at the beginning of April. Two kids start a metal band in a high school where exactly only these two kids care about metal. They can't find a bassist, but there is this one girl who plays the cello. They need to work together if they're ever going to win the Battle of the Bands - so they bring in the cellist. Will it work? Can they win with her? The cast of Metal Lords includes Jaeden Martell, Isis Hainsworth, Adrian Greensmith, Sufe Bradshaw, Noah Urrea, Analesa Fisher, Michelle Fang, Phelan Davis, with Brett Gelman, and Joe Manganiello. This seems like a cool concept for a film these days,...

Metal music, whether black or heavy, can be an acquired taste, but its passionate fan base is undeniable. Here and there will come a film that attempts to capture what it is about the genre that can pierce the heart. From Netflix, written by D.B. Weiss (“Game of Thrones”) and directed by Peter Sollett (“Nick & Norah’s Infinite Playlist”), “Metal Lords” hopes to offer the next installment in movies revolving around metal, this time through a coming-of-age story.

HBO is going all in on “Game of Thrones” spinoffs, with the upcoming Targaryen-centric prequel “House of the Dragon” first out of the gate later this year. While the network sets out on expanding the world of Westeros, don’t expect original series creators David Benioff and D.B. Weiss to return to the franchise. Weiss recently told Entertainment Weekly he has no intention of returning to “Game of Thrones” in the future.
“All in, we were 11 years, probably, doing that show,” Weiss said. “When I say 11 years, it was full on, all in, all day, every day for 11 years. It was the best decade of our lives. It still kind of feels a bit like a dream, but we got to a place where it was pretty clear to us that we had reached the end of what made sense for us to be involved with in that world that we lived.

This feels like a clickbait title, but you'll never guess what former "Game of Thrones" showrunner D.B. Weiss is doing next. I say that, because instead of returning to Westeros to work on the suite of "Game of Thrones" prequels that will soon be unleashed upon the world, he's joined up with Netflix to create a high school heavy metal movie called "Metal Lords." Sure, there might be face paint, long hair, and songs about dragons, but it's hard to imagine a project that's further from the sprawling epic that was "Game of Thrones." Still, Netflix has released some promo shots from the...

Upwards of 85 new films will launch (or have already arrived) on Netflix this year. A few movies made their grand debuts in January, and quite a few more are set to launch at the beginning of this month, but the streaming service is touting its 2022 slate with new movies every week and a robust lineup of actors and filmmakers.
Standout tiles include Shawn Levy’s time-traveling tale, “The Adam Project,” with a cast led by Ryan Reynolds, Mark Ruffalo, Jennifer Garner and Zoe Saldaña, as well as a new adaptation of Jane Austen’s “Persuasion,” starring Dakota Johnson and Henry Golding. Regina King will embody trailblazing politician Shirley Chisholm in a biopic titled “Shirley.” Stop-motion and horror maestros Henry Selick and Jordan Peele are teaming up for the animated pic “Wendell & Wild.” “The Gray Man” stars both Ryan Gosling and Chris Evans in a CIA/spy/global manhunt film alongside Ana de Armas.
