Lionsgate has revealed an official trailer for an emotional veteran movie titled A Place in the Field, marking the feature directorial debut of filmmaker Nikki Mejia. This premiered last year and will be available to watch on VOD this fall. A battle-shocked veteran goes on a road trip to fulfill a promise to a fallen comrade — and realizes he must confront his own demons to reach his destination. Featuring flashbacks to his time on the battlfield, while he's on his journey through the back roads of America. The powerful indie drama arrives in theaters in November briefly before being available at home. Starring Don Dipetta as Scuderi, Khorri Ellis, Kelvin Delgado, Mishel Prada, Ashlee Brian, and Jeremy Luke. Exclusive: Lionsgate’s Grindstone Entertainment Group has acquired North American rights to A Place in the Field, a drama infused with magical realism, which marks the feature directorial debut of 2021 AFI graduate Nicole Mejia.
Shot safely over the course of the pandemic, A Place in the Field follows Army Veteran Gio Scuderi (Green Book’s Don Dipetta) who, after receiving a package and a letter from an old friend, sets out on a journey across the American Southwest to fulfill a promise made long ago during his deployment. The film tackling the issue of Ptsd in veterans through a female filmmaker’s lens is billed as a road trip story about loss, friendship, perseverance, and the will to carry on.
Dipetta, Khorri Ellis, Bluesmon Del Vecchio and Xochitl Portillo-Moody wrote the pic, which made its world premiere at the 2022 Santa Barbara Film Festival. Dipetta and Mejia produced alongside Heliya Alam.
