Another below B-level crap
MovieIQTest15 June 2021
Four fake reviews contributed by the movie makers relatives, colleagues or friends, tried to cheat people to pick out this terrible western genre garbage from the DVD garbage bin in a supermarket renting machine. Watchable, at least? If you were in jail and there's only one movie that was shown in the public roaming area, and you've got nowhere to go, then watch it.

What amazed me as a myth is why so many moronic investors would waste their money to so many horrible movies? Many production budgets were over several millions and even more, but their global box office records only shown couple of thousand dollars, sometimes, even in the 5 figure range. Why not used that money to invest in other ventures instead of making movies?

Atrocious! Thought it was a farce..
cenan-9707416 September 2021
Wow, this movie was horrible, at first I thought it was a farce, like a mock comedy western, but it was quickly apparent that not much time was taken into the making of this film.

The actors are horrible, the physical acting is unbearable to watch and cringeworthy. The actors characters/lines are barely put together and lack depth.

Where's the action?

Just...don't
techbklukat9 August 2022
I generally don't select movies with such low ratings, but I was at someone else's house who likes westerns and wanted to see a free movie.

I gamely sat through this truly terrible movie to be polite, thank goodness it only ran 73 minutes. The acting was truly atrocious, the action scenes were cringeworthy, and the plot was just plain stupid. This seemed like a college film project tbh. The older lieutenant came the closest to actual acting. I can't decide if the younger lieutenant, the injured soldier, or the scout was the worst. Really a toss up. This is easily THE WORST movie I have ever suffered through. And I am 53 with many movies under my belt. Do not subject yourself to this movie. You have been warned. The 10 ratings are fake.

Good Movie in the Proper Perspective
ocpd18 November 2022
I'm not a relative nor was I paid to leave a "good" review. I am someone who understands this particular genre and style of movie making. It's not a multi-million dollar production. It was meant to be the product of artists working with a limited budget and it works in that perspective.

The acting is good (great in some parts) and not so good in others but always worth watching. The scenes of the trapped cavalry and the desperate situation they were in was well staged, well acted and the shots were well directed.

If you want Big Jake or Stagecoach, go see them. I enjoy these movies for what they are. Many, like this one, are a collaboration of artists working together to make something worth watching.

Great Soundtrack
cwjohnsonjr10 September 2021
There's several things I enjoyed about Counting Bullets. Original formula, good acting and fantastic scenery. My favorite part was the soundtrack. It felt like a cross between Elmer Bernstein and Spaghetti Westerns while still being original.

It's far better than it has any right to be
CubsandCulture22 August 2022
I picked this film up on DVD at Walmart for like 10 bucks. I thought it looked like a fun B-western. Apparently this production company somehow managed to make 12 westerns-one a month-during the early days of the Covid-19 pandemic. That is impressive even if the films all ended up as incoherent messes and/or complete garbage.

This is the only one I have seen but the film was good enough that I am interested in checking out the rest of the films. The production values are solidly shoestring budget and the acting is pretty amateurish; I think that adds to the charm of the film but you have to love Z-grade productions to get passed that.

But the direction and especially the script are surprisingly good. The shootouts and action build correctly to be tense. The story-even if it well-worn Cavalry and Indian story-does engage and the script is competent at set-up, payoff. The characters are thinly drawn and tropes but their characterizations work and they fit together well as cast of characters. This was a fun find. No one will think this is a great film or breaking new ground but it is an entertaining film made under extreme conditions. It is worth seeing just because of the production context.

Traveled Well

The landscape was rugged, beautiful, and made a perfect background for the men who struggled for their lives.

real gritty western
nick-murphy-4497630 June 2021
Of the twelve westerns so far, this is the one my kids want to watch over and over. John Marrs and Shannon Williams really shine in this film. They are both excellent actors and a joy to watch work. Filmed under duress during Covid-19 lockdown, what Travis Mills and crew accomplished last year was nothing short of amazing. Filmed in the Dragoon mountain range in Arizona, the scenery is beautiful and authentic to the story, will watch again!

APPEALING - evoking or attracting interest, desire, curiosity, sympathy, or the like
LSRBKR3 June 2021
Really enjoyed this movie. The word appealing seems to capture all that is true about this movie. The characters seemed real, so I cared about them and what happened to them. The story kept me interested and anxious for more.

Better than most old-style Westerns
Marlburian21 October 2021
I like Westerns of the 1940s-1970s and thought that "Counting Bullets" compared well with them. I assume that most of those involved were amateurs, and if so then theirs was a commendable effort.

Another reviewer has mentioned the curiosity of the patrol not retrieving the weapons of ammunition of the killed Comancheros, and nor did it seem to take much in the way of supplies. And the two meaningful conversations between beleaguered members of the patrol went on a bit.

Good photography.

Easily worth a six, I've given it seven.

Wonderful
jpmills-356664 April 2021
Just like any mission movie, the film begins with a bunch of characters being thrown together and we have no idea what is in store for them. But the setup has us already wondering about the background of some characters and as Mumford says, "This should be entertaining"!

The dragoon mountains, where it was filmed, sent us way back to the harsh desolate western days. Some humor and conversation is thrown between characters but one event changes the entire film and from that point on, there is no looking away.

In a small space (literally) and in a small amount of time, we grow to love the characters in this misfit gang. Each one is fleshed out with great dialogue. Each one we get a small taste of who they are as a person and who they might become due to the situation they face. Unlikely alliances and friendships form and in the end, you can't help remembering every single one of them like an old friend.

The acting, all around was superb. Michael Estridge played Lieutenant Lowe to the key. I knew exactly who he was and enjoyed his character's progress. Wayne Lundy did a great job with a somewhat outlier character, he fleshed him out real well. I had a special admiration for William Shannon Williams' Mumford character, he played it with such ease! But, the one who took it all was John Marrs, not just because he looks classically western, but because you fell in love with his character within his first moments on screen and he just kept getting better.

There is only so much I can review without giving away the whole movie but I hope I've convinced you to give this one a try because it will stay with you (in a good way) for a long time.
