But with his growing fame thanks to the likes of his work with The Muppets and his various movies, his life became much more complicated. Now Ron Howard is bringing his story to our screens via a new Disney+ original documentary called Jim Henson Idea Man. Watch the trailer below, but don't blame us if it starts getting dusty in the immediate vicinity…

Customers can access the MyDisney site to manage their accounts and marketing preferences across Disney services like Disney+ and Hulu.
Disney has the ability to offer different types of entertainment experiences in ways that none of its competitors can. The company has its TV and movie studios, of course, which churn out dozens of titles per year that eventually make their way to streamers like Disney+ and Hulu, but it also has its theme parks, cruise ships, as well as online shopping choices that customers can access from anywhere. It can be confusing to keep login information for websites that deliver these experiences and products straight, which is why Disney is rolling out the new “MyDisney” unified login ability to allow consumers to access all their various Disney accounts with a single username and passowrd.
The MyDisney experience will allow customers to log into Disney+, Hulu and ESPN+ with one email and password combo.

Data from Accenture shows that 52% of respondents said recommended content on streaming platforms does not match their interests.
“Spoiled for choice” takes on a different meaning when applied to streaming services. Indeed, in this context, the phrase might be more accurate if it were changed to “overwhelmed with choice,” at least according to a new survey from the global professional services firm Accenture. The new report has a wide range of important data points for streaming providers like Netflix, Disney+, and Prime Video, but perhaps its most crucial findings are in regard to issues of content discovery and customer frustration.
Accenture’s survey found that 54% of customers spend six or more minutes finding something new to stream, and 30% browse for 10 or more minutes. More than half of customers say recommended content rows do not provide titles that match their interests. The data also found that 56% of customers report being frustrated...

New data from Ampere Analysis shows that shows like ‘The Last of Us’ have helped raise public perception of video game adaptations.
Many fans of the “Fallout” video game series are likely already burning through the first season of the TV adaptation on Prime Video. “Fallout” Season 1 bowed on Amazon’s streaming service on April 10, and initial reviews suggest that critics are just as excited about the show as those who spent thousands hours playing the games. Adaptations of video games have often been a tricky nut for studios to crack, but new data from Ampere Analysis shows that as the quality of such projects has improved, so too has their popularity.
Ampere’s data found that search volumes for video game adaptations have risen, while comic book adaptation searches have fallen. Fan perception of the quality of comic book adaptations has fallen, and studios are responding by making big changes to their comic franchises.

It’s sometimes hard to imagine that actors you see on screen are just like you and me, but it’s really true, and nobody is a better example of normalcy in extraordinary circumstances than Tyler Hynes.
If you’re already a fan, this isn’t news to you. You may be a part of his social media circle, which includes frequent visits from the talented man, as he not only connects with those who hold him dear but also enjoys it.
Many talented professionals in the entertainment field will tell you that bringing joy to others is why they do the work, but Tyler takes it a step further by being so incredibly connected.
When he says, “I just want to live a good life with good people, see if I can do some good and make some folks possibly a little happy,” he couldn’t be more sincere.

Last month, it was announced that writer/producer Judalina Neira is developing a TV series reimagining of the classic sitcom Bewitched for Sony Pictures Television, aiming to turn it into an “irreverent hourlong” show. NBC clearly likes the idea of reviving Bewitched, because now Deadline has broken the news that the network has their own “Bewitched-inspired” show called Something Wicked in the works, and this one already has a star attached: June Diane Raphael, who may be best known for playing the character Brianna Hanson for the 94 episodes that make up the Netflix series Grace and Frankie, which ran for seven seasons.

A multi-camera comedy, the show is described as having a Bewitched-type premise and will also serve as an homage to TV sitcom classics. It’s beautiful how movies can take us back to an innocent time. A perfect example is the absolute adoration of Jim Henson’s classic features, The Dark Crystal (1982) and Labyrinth (1986). For many, growing up on The Muppets and Sesame Street brought a level of excitement for both of these features. Even still, while Crystal made a decent showing at the box office, audiences weren’t ready for Labyrinth upon its release. Now, however, both films have found themselves well-loved and admired. So much so that both are getting the 4K treatment, and you can stream them immediately.

New data from Ampere Analysis shows how valuable Black Friday promotions from streamers can be, and how more services should be using them.
Not all streaming services participate in Black Friday deal offers, but those that do are usually available at incredibly deep discounts. Max got in on the game in 2023, offering its ad-supported streaming tier for a 70% discount; instead of the $9.99-per-month standard price, Max was available for $2.99 per month for a period of six months. Data released by Ampere Analysis in December is demonstrating how successful that promotion was, and shows which streamers should consider offering Black Friday deals of their own.
Max gained 1.2 million subscribers thanks to its Black Friday offer. Ampere’s data shows that Black Friday subscribers were retained at a higher rate, as well. Hulu offers Black Friday discounts, but Disney+ and Prime Video stand out as a streamer that should consider its own Black Friday bargains.

Last year’s R.L. Stine-based Disney+ series “Goosebumps” will return for Season 2, we’ve learned this weekend, but the cast and setting will be switched up this time around.
Variety reports, “The announcement was made during the Disney Branded Television presentation at the Television Critics Association winter press tour. As part of the announcement, it was also revealed that the second season would be eight episodes compared to the 10-episode first season, and that the show is going the anthology route. Thus, Season 2 will feature an entirely new cast and setting based on R.L. Stine’s iconic Scholastic book series.”
“Audiences everywhere fell in love with the series’ chills, thrills, heart and humor, making it one of Disney Branded Television’s most-watched shows of last year,” said Ayo Davis, president of Disney Branded Television. “We can’t wait to dive deeper into the brilliant mind of R.L.

Disney+ has renewed the series based on R.L. Stine’s beloved book series for a second season — with a twist: it will be turned into an anthology series. The sophomore season will feature an entirely new story, cast and setting. The show’s creative team, including showrunner Hilary Winston (Community), will return.
Disney+ says season two will revolve around “teenage siblings who discover a threat within their home, setting off a chain of events that unravel a profound mystery. As they delve into the unknown, the duo finds themselves entangled in the story of five teenagers who mysteriously vanished in 1994.”
Season one featured a cast led by Justin Long, Rachael Harris and Zack Morris and has a 74 percent score among critics and 69 percent rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Exec producers are Nicholas Stoller (The Muppets), Rob Letterman (Pokémon: Detective Pikachu), who developed the series, Winston,...

Netflix was the first streamer to implement measures intended to limit password sharing, but it was apparent immediately that it wouldn’t be the last. The new ‘Gateway Shop’ format will purportedly offer Disney a way to reach customers with ads without interrupting their watching.
Streaming has offered a number of innovations to its customers over the years. The ability to watch video on demand was a revelation to many, especially those who didn’t grow up with cable. Watching content without ads was another new feature of streaming, and though ads have made their way onto essentially every streaming platform nowadays, that partially means there are more opportunities for streaming providers to innovate the way they deliver ads. At this week’s Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas, Disney announced just such an innovation.
Disney is launching a limited beta test of a new ad format it calls “Gateway Shop.” This format will deliver ads to user’s phones or emails while they stream Disney content, so as not to interrupt their viewing.

Disney first agreed to allow Spectrum TV customers access to Disney+ at no additional cost in September.
It was a risky gambit by Charter Communications to look Disney in the eye and tell them it would not air their channels at the demanded price unless it got free access to Disney+ for its customers included in the deal. But Disney ultimately blinked in the stare down that ensured, and on Thursday Charter announced that its Spectrum TV Select customers could officially begin signing up for their new Disney+ accounts.
Spectrum TV Select users can now sign up for Disney+ Basic as part of their cable plan. Disney and Charter agreed to a new carriage deal in September that granted Spectrum TV Select subscribers Disney+ access in exchange for higher fees to carry Disney-owned channels. The deal could lead to a wider integration of streaming plans with cable providers. Sign Up Now $7.99+ / month disneyplus.

The late, great Jim Henson's impact on television cannot be understated. Obviously, "Sesame Street" was a trailblazer for children's programming. Using Henson's googly-eyed puppets, the PBS series educated kids about everything from math to the different cultures of the world and the circle of life itself. Henson's "Fraggle Rock" was no less ambitious; beneath the boisterous songs and the rowdy Fraggles' shenanigans was a radical peacenik series Henson hoped would "change the world and stop war."
"Muppet Babies," an animated show featuring Henson's Muppets as pint-sized toddlers in a nursery, set its sights nearly as high. At first, Henson was hesitant to collaborate on the series with Marvel Productions, worrying the studio's children's cartoons based on known properties in the 1970s and early '80s lacked the depth of his previous TV ventures. In time, though, it was the very challenge of producing a cartoon that held to...

Disney has been looking to sell off its Indian streaming operations for months, and a new report indicates it’s nearing completion of that process.
Disney isn’t used to struggling financially as a company. But these days, things aren’t so rosy at the Mouse House outside of its parks division, as its movie studio and streaming operations are not exactly driving the company’s finances into the black. A new report from the Economic Times indicates that the company could be closing in on a sale of its Indian streaming service Hotstar and linear channels.
Economic Times reports Disney has agreed to a non-binding terms sheet with Reliance Industries Ltd. The first public reports of Disney’s talks with Reliance bubbled up in October. Disney gets good scale from its Indian business, but the average revenue per user it makes there leaves it willing to sell. Sign Up Now $7.99+ / month disneyplus.

Muppet Babies is one of the rare 1980s animated shows that are not available to stream, and Jim Henson cartoonist Guy Gilchrist is revealing why.
During a recent appearance at L.A. Comic Con, Gilchrist gave some answers as to why the Muppet Babies was not available to stream on any of the digital platforms.
Gilchrist said it comes down to “copyrights and trademarks” as the reason why the show has not been able to get into a streaming service. The cartoonist said in an interview with Dennis Does LA that back in the 80s, there was “camaraderie” between the studios, something that doesn’t exist today amid the big corporate takeovers.
“Besides using the stuff that was in the public domain, like the silent stuff that we used in the dream sequences… Remember, the editing on that was incredibly wonderful. We used a lot of film clips from a lot of different things,...

“South Park” pushed the limits in a brand new way during its latest Paramount+ special.
The aptly titled “South Park (Not Suitable for Children)” contained more nudity in its 46-minute runtime than Matt Stone and Trey Parker’s animated comedy has shown to date. According to TheWrap’s calculations, nine minutes and 27 seconds of that runtime showed the character Randy naked from the waist down. True to the style of this adult animated comedy, the animation of Randy’s often-shown genitalia was more detailed and graphic that other examples of genitalia the series has shown in the past.
(Note: This estimate only applies to the regular seasons of “South Park” and its Paramount+ specials. The video game “South Park: The Stick of Truth” notoriously contained a battle sequence that took place while the parents of the player character were having sex, a sequence that could last longer than nine minutes depending on gameplay.

It’s a Barbie world and we’re all just living in it. Months after becoming the all-time highest-grossing film by a solo female director, Greta Gerwig’s “Barbie” has been steadily blowing all other 2023 movies out of the water when it comes to industry awards recognition. One of its greatest achievements yet happened Wednesday morning when the Critics Choice Association showered it with an unprecedented 18 nominations in 16 categories. Despite this strong domination, the teams behind plenty of other films had ample reason to celebrate, as this was the first year in which more than two titles collected at least a dozen bids apiece.

Speaking at a company townhall meeting on Tuesday, Disney CEO Bob Iger seemed to downplay the possibility that the company’s linear channels were for sale.
What’s Bob Iger up to these days? The short answer is a lot between his duties as CEO — managing Disney’s multi-arm operation — and taking a lead role in negotiations with SAG-AFTRA. However, his biggest concern at the moment is helping to right the financial ship that is company is currently sailing on, as traditional revenue drivers like broadcast and cable channels continue to lose viewers.
Speaking at a corporate town hall meeting, Iger said that no final decisions have been made regarding the sale of channels such as ABC, Disney Channel, FX, and others. The CEO also said that those channels were “pretty significant” parts of the company still. Disney is still preparing to launch a one-app version of Disney+ and Hulu sometime next month.

Spoilers for "Five Nights at Freddy's" follow.
The old Hollywood adage, "Pain is temporary, film is forever," is normally reserved for the on-set hardships endured while filming swords-and-sandals epics like "Gladiator" or the sprawling "Lord of the Rings" trilogy. Now, it seems that turn of phrase could also apply to this year's highest-grossing horror film, "Five Nights at Freddy's."
Based on the immensely popular video game series created by Scott Cawthon, "FNaF" (for short) became an online phenomenon mostly due to viral videos of YouTube influencers playing the liminal horror game that's carefully designed to produce as many jump scares as humanly possible. Set in the fictional kids restaurant Freddy Fazbear's Pizza, "FNaF" harkens back to a time when full-size animatronic bands like Showbiz Pizza's Rock-afire Explosion entertained (and slightly terrified) children of all ages.
To recreate the baked-in tactile terror of these supposedly amiable monstrosities, "Five Nights at Freddy's...

It's been 100 years since Walt Disney created The Walt Disney Company, which first produced short silent films like "Alice's Funnies." That film starred Walt Disney himself, in live-action, showing a little girl how he created his cartoons. The strange and anthropomorphic creations came alive on the screen in front of her in that ambitious early short, and after a day of behind-the-scenes magic, she dreamed herself into the cartoon world.
The events of the next century are much too voluminous to write them all down here but needless to say, Walt Disney's company underwent many changes. Original characters like Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck and Goofy helped make the studio an industry titan, and feature films like "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs" and "Cinderella" cemented its box office clout. Disney's theme parks literally changed landscapes. And by the time the 100th anniversary of those original cartoons came around,...

One of the biggest items on Disney’s corporate to-do list this year was to complete its acquisition of Hulu. That process is now nearing completion, as Disney and Comcast have agreed to the sale parameters that will send Comcast’s 33% share of Hulu to Disney for at least $8.6 billion.
Disney will begin the process of merging its two entertainment streamers together in December. CEO Bob Iger says the delay is intended to help parents set up controls so kids can’t access adult content from Hulu on Disney+. The merged experience will launch as a beta for Disney Bundle subscribers in December, and will officially be rolled out in spring of 2024. Sign Up Now $7.99+ / month disneyplus.com

It was only a matter of time. In May, Disney CEO Bob Iger announced that the company would be bringing together its entertainment streaming services Disney+ and Hulu into a one-app experience before the end of the 2024 calendar year. While full details were not disclosed at the time, the assumption was that it would involve either a tile on each service housing some of the biggest titles from the corresponding platform, or the ability to easily switch between the services, without having to exit the streaming experience — or potentially some combination of the two.
