You've gotta watch this trailer for the upcoming action thriller Savage Dog, which features Scott Adkins (Doctor Strange, The Expendables II) kicking ass as he embarks on a mission for revenge.
The movie looks like it came straight out of the early 1990s, which is why I'm kind of looking forward to watching it. I've seen a few trailers for upcoming action films recently that reminded me of movies from the 90s. Are 90s-style action movies making a comeback!? Yeah, it looks like a very low-budget flick, but sometimes it's just fun to sit back, relax, and watch a fun movie like this. Here's the synopsis:
Indochina, 1959. A Wild West town controlled by the criminal class: Vietnamese warlords and European war criminals. The worst prison in the land, it is here that a European, former-champion boxer Martin Tilman (Scott Adkins) has made a name for himself fighting tournaments. When Tilman is due for release,...

Indie movie news broke with the announcement of the cast of upcoming film “Avalanche.” The film, which is not about a natural disaster, stars Maxine Bahns (“The Brothers McMullen,” “Cutaway,” “Charlie Valentine”), Aaron Farb (“Powers,” “Kill The Messenger”) and Screen Actors Guild nominee Stelio Savante (“Eisenstein in Guanajuato,” “A Million Colours,” “Ugly Betty”) and is directed by Todd L. Green. So, if the film isn’t about a real avalanche, then what is it about? As it turns out, the film is a thriller that involves the consequences of bad behavior coming to the surface. “In Avalanche, a librarian (Savante), his wife (Bahns), and her lover (Farb) find themselves trapped in [ Read More ]

Really anticipating Bloodshot Reborn #1 from Valiant since reading all of the high drama that occurred in The Valiant #4, which was amazing. I think Matt Kindt successfully relaunched Ninjak recently and I was excited to see how the other half of The Valiant writing team, one Jeff Lemire, would do with Bloodshot, who probably walked away from the occurrences of the mini more changed then any other character. I recently read Lemire’s Descender and in the middle of a write-up on that, and it’s icy.
Bloodshot is one of my favorite characters, and going to get the first issue of his first series is one of those childhood comic book memories that stick out, and while not in monetary value, the page I have from that issue is one of the most valuable to me.
I’m also a big fan of Lemire in general. I’m not in love with Bloodshot Reborn though.

My friend, actor/filmmaker, Jon Lee Brody ("Pawn," "Star Trek Into Darkness"), has created a short film called "Police Guys" that you guys should see! Brody wrote, produced, directed, and starred in the 15-minute film alongside Stephen Kramer Glickman (Big Time Rush), Shawna Waldron (Little Giants), Lester Speight (Transformers: Dark of the Moon), Jonathan Bennett (Mean Girls), Lisa Catara (Charlie Valentine), Gonzalo Menendez (Act of Valor), Alex Heartman (Power Rangers Super Samurai) and Christine Lakin (Step by Step, Valentine.s Day).
Here's more info on the project:
A pair of cops (Jon Lee Brody and Stephen Kramer Glickman) on a stakeout get much more than they bargained for! Police Guys is a fifteen-minute short film/pilot that was written, produced and directed by Jon Lee Brody.
The film was shot in 2 days with little to no budget. Brody sites Robert Rodriguez as his inspiration. .The book .Rebel Without a Crew...

Through press release means, Square Enix has announced that, much like Sleeping Dogs before it, Io Interactive’s Hitman: Absolution features a recognizable celebrity cast.
In fact, found within the list of actors who lent themselves to the game through motion capture and recording devices, sits Powers Boothe, along with Keith Carradine, Vivica A. Fox and Shannyn Sossamon. They may not be some of Hollywood’s elite these days, but they’re quality actors nonetheless, and their inclusion should lend a lot of authenticity to the assassination-focused title.
For more information regarding November’s Hitman: Absolution and its voice cast, check out the following release:
Copenhagen (October 25, 2012) – Io Interactive A/S, a Square Enix studio, today reveals the stunning main cast of Hitman: Absolution. This very talented group of well known Hollywood actors was brought together to fulfill Hitman: Absolution’s cinematic storytelling ambition.

The Punisher has my favourite origin of any comic book character. I’m not saying I delight at the fact that Frank Castle had to watch as his family was ripped apart in a hail of bullets but his origin is the most believable (yes, I know I’m talking about a comic where a 50 year old man takes on the mob with more ordanance that the U.S. army, believable doesn’t come into it) in that if my loved ones were killed, I wouldn’t throw on a reallllly tight fitting costume and start beating up muggers. I would instead track down and kill those responsible, just like good ol’ Frank. One thing that didn’t gel with me though: why has hasn’t The Punisher never stopped?
Theres a dozen answers to this question, but the one I like the most was presented in ‘Born’… Frank Castle is in love with war.

The 16th annual San Antonio Film Festival, which runs June 23-27, is truly a great combination of celebrating local talent and international cinema, screening films produced in Texas to ones produced in Europe, South America and the Middle East.
There’s also a distinct flavor of socially aware fictional narratives and documentaries, including films about Tibetan refugees, migrant workers, the 2008 Presidential election, alcoholism and genocide. But, that’s not to say the fest is a totally serious affair as there’s also several genre films about the World Cup, sheep rustlers, dancers, crooks and other ne’er-do-wells. It looks like a fun mix.
The full lineup of films is below. The way the festival runs is that films screen in blocks in three different theaters. A “block” of films will generally contain a feature or two (feature = film that is 50 mins. or more), plus several shorts. In the lineup I have up,...

Writer/director Jesse V. Johnson first caught our attention when his post-apocalyptic actioner The Last Sentinel (starring Katee Sackhoff don't you know) ended up being better than expected. Now it looks like his gangster drama, the stylish Charlie Valentine is seeing limited release on April 28.
Synopsis:
The film chronicles the exploits of the title character, Charlie, played by Raymond J. Barry a career criminal intent on scoring one last big pay day. When his "perfect crime" goes bad, Charlie flees to Los Angeles to hide out with his estranged son, Danny, played by Michael Weatherly. What ensues reveals the true nature of some of the most unsavory of characters.
The trailer is effective and features some fantastic photography, music and acing by a largely older cast of made guys.
Trailer (via: trailer addict) after the break.
Embedded video stripped, see full HTML version.

The 2010 Gasparilla International Film Festival kicked off last night at the historic Tampa Theatre in downtown Tampa. After months of planning for the Giff's marquee event, the volunteers and members of the board all saw their tremendous efforts pay off. A night of meeting industry professionals, seeing a Sundance winning flick, and mingling with people who are passionate about filmmaking highlighted the night.
As local and national celebrities arrived for the reception prior to the opening flick, business cards were flying all over the place. The Giff board finally had a chance to enjoy a drink or two and interact with all in attendance. Also enjoying the festivities were State Representative Kevin Ambler, Digital Domain Chairman John Textor, and even Golden Globe nominated Armand Assante was making his rounds throughout the night.
One of the featured moments came when veteran actor Raymond J. Barry received this year's lifetime achievement award.

The first trailer for Green Street 2: Stand Your Ground (sequel to the 2005 football hooliganism flick Green Street Hooligans which stared Elijah Wood) dropped a week back and somehow we missed it. Oddly enough, the only reason I found it at all is because it's being directed by Jesse V. Johnson who wrote the recent Pa actioner The Last Sentinel and I was looking for some info on his next film Charlie Valentine.
Following the deadly climax of "Green Street Hooligans," several members of the West Ham firm and numerous members of Millwall end up in jail. The Gse quickly discover the brutality of life on the inside, as they are constant targets of the superior numbers and better-financed Millwall crew. Football on the inside and out is followed fervently by the prisoners and wins and losses by both are quickly followed by punishment or reward. This could mean...
