Baloo duped

'Talespin' has always been a show dear to my heart. One of those favourites from a young age that holds up really well, and is even more entertaining through adult eyes from appreciating the writing and stories even more.

Have been on a roll reviewing individual episodes for certain shows, animated, non-animated and of as many genres as possible (many as part of certain quests), and decided to do it with 'Talespin' and some others. Something that, as expected and hoped, has proven to be a more than worthwhile project and experience. "Flying Dupes" is a good episode but not close to being a favourite, perhaps my least favourite episode of the show.

It is just lacking the extra thrills and adventure of the best episodes, handling the terrorist theme not as subtly it could have and there are more interesting supporting characters in other episodes. Only Spigot stands out here and somehow it's not the same without Kit, Rebecca and Wildcat.

The animation is very colourful and atmospheric as always. The music matches what is going on perfectly and it is impossible to forget or resist the theme song, one of the catchiest for anything Disney and ever.

Writing is witty, funny without being too silly and thought-probing without being complicated. Things don't get too childish and it is all easy to follow. The story is hugely compelling and lively in pace without being rushed, and executes a nice idea imaginatively.

Baloo is a very fun and likeable character as always, one feels sorry for him too.

Voice acting is terrific, Ed Gilbert as ever voices Baloo with a lot of spirit and Michael Gough has fun as Spigot.

All in all, good but not great. 7/10 Bethany Cox
