Marvel Studios still have a finale problem
eelcostuy4 May 2022
But this was satisfying enough! Wish it was longer and contained more explanation, but the end credits scene makes a lot up for that. Overall this series is really enjoyable and really well though out. Better pacing than most other Marvel series and a smart exchange of character development and action. Satisfied!

Regularly Scheduled Meh Finale
SHU_Movies4 May 2022
Another average finale brought to us from MARVEL. It suffers from the same stuff as WandaVision, The Falcon And The Winter Solider and Hawkeye, and it's that there is just too much content that needed to get crammed into one episode, and it's not even 50 minutes long! The writing is subpar compared to the rest of the series, and a lot of it is just really poorly done. Now that I've ripped it apart, I want to say that it's still enjoyable. It's just not at the level I expected from this show.

Solid, but not great finale
DrKennyKeps4 May 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Pretty decent season/series finale, with the expected twist on the end.

The Khonshu/Ammit fight was pretty cool, and Layla's new Tawaret avatar outfit was sweet as well.

I wonder if/when we'll see these characters again moving forward.

8/10, lived up to expectations, but no real surprises.

Disney still needs to learn how to end a marvel show
At points, "Gods and Monsters" often feels more like a checklist than an actual episode of television. It is a narrative that dutifully cycles through a familiar list of things that a show like this needs to do before crossing the finish line. It's perhaps the most formulaic season finale of any of the Marvel streaming shows, hitting each of its beats with clockwork precision, paying out exactly what the audience expects when they expect it. There is the obligatory gigantic computer-generated climax, as Arthur Harrow (Ethan Hawke) initiates the apocalypse. As is customary at the end of these stories, a supporting character gets to become a superhero teasing future adventures, as Layla (May Calamawy) becomes the avatar of Taweret (Antonia Salib). There are multiple computer-generated throwdowns between Ammit (Saba Mubarak) and Khonshu (F. Murray Abraham), with customary "we're not so different" dialogue. Even the episode's surprises aren't really surprises. As Marc and Steven (Oscar Isaac) flee through the desert, chased by a sandstorm, Taweret swings out of nowhere for a heroic cavalry moment to literally break the wave. The episode's post-credits teaser confirms something that fans had speculated since the show was first announced and that the show had all but confirmed as early as "The Friendly Type," that there was at least a third personality in that body: Jake Lockley. To be fair, this isn't necessarily a bad thing. As a rule, when these streaming shows take a sharp swerve in their final episodes, often to reveal a fan-favorite villain like Agatha Harkness (Kathryn Hahn) or Wilson Fisk (Vincent D'Onofrio), they tend to derail themselves. Loki went from being the most interesting and compelling of these streaming shows to a massive disappointment when it undercut its core themes and character arcs so its final episode could tease future story beats. Nevertheless, "Gods and Monsters" makes a big deal of Marc's refusal to kill the incapacitated Harrow.

Gods and Monsters and... a second season?
Trey_Trebuchet4 May 2022
Warning: Spoilers
There has to be, right? I thought it was pretty evident after a few episodes that this wasn't going to be the "mini series" Disney says it is.

I guess I don't understand all of the criticism here. Yes, it ends with another visually splendid CGI battle, but there was enough weight to the situation that I didn't mind it at all. If anything, it's one of the better finales Marvel has done. I loved the Khonshu v. Ammit fight as well as the battle between Marc/Steven, Layla and Harrow. The VFX all looked really good and I was surprised it was so well directed!

I was a bit worried the show was going to feel too safe, but it didn't always feel that way, and I like that it didn't at all tie into anything else in the MCU. It really didn't feel like an MCU show at any point to me. The acting was all great. Isaac was incredible as both Steven and Marc, and I ended up loving Ethan Hawke and May Calamawy as well. F. Murray Abraham was an excellent Khonshu.

Overall, great series. One of the best Disney+ originals in my opinion. My only hope for the second season is that we get more Moon Knight action.

Amazing!
adamlcb-876474 May 2022
I genuinely have no idea what is real what isn't real, but what I do know is Oscar Isaac is amazing, the rest of the cast is amazing, and although I'm as lost a penguin in Egypt, I enjoyed every last bit of it.

You need a plan little bug
bosporan4 May 2022
Wonderful final episode with Marc/Steven and Layla opposing Harrow and his plans. Some fabulous fight scenes, both Avatar and God with so much going on, beautifully choreographed and complemented with excellent effects.

Throughout this season, Oscar Isaac has been superb playing the contrasting personalities occupying a single body, his facial expression, dialogue delivery and physicality combining to make the characters believably individual and a coherent whole.

Everything credibly and satisfyingly wrapped up, plus an unexpected post-credit scene both clarifying this season and setting up a probable season two.

Gods and Monsters
Prismark105 May 2022
Warning: Spoilers
The first series of Moon Knight concludes with a messy episode that ties up some of the story.

You need to watch the end credits in full to see other loose ends dealt with.

There is a well realised CGI battle between Khonshu and Ammit. Even Moon Knight turns up to take on Harrow and his acolytes.

Yet it was rather unsatisfactory. Harrow defeats the gods too easily. They seem to be no match for him given what they manage to do to Khonshu.

Layla infiltrated Harrow's gang too easily and no one noticed that she was travelling with them.

It all failed to convince me that this was a coherent conclusion to the show.

As ever Oscar Isaac was the best thing about the series. But for him this series would had been a disappointment.

End credit scene
eoinpgeary4 May 2022
Definitely a great episode, I'm very great full for marvel studios introducing me to moon knight as I never knew him before.

The episode was really good, good fight scenes and overall just really enjoyable, I liked the ending but I would have liked a longer episode Great series and I can't wait to see where he goes in the MCU next.

Enjoyable but not a satisfying finale.
Anonymous_Knight4 May 2022
Marvel really need to give us more episodes for series. The 6 episodes structure doesn't work. The finale sort of felt rushed, It was enjoyable but it left me wanting more instead of giving me a satisfying ending.

Predictably Underwhelming Finale
rangojalex5 May 2022
I was tempted to give this episode a 6 or 7 but after thinking about it a little, this episode is quite frankly inexcusable. Marvel/Disney+ is really dropping the ball with these shows with a lack of committal to trying certain genres and their inability to break from the marvel formula is leaves an empty feeling after finishing each show. Moon Knight had some serious highs and it's on par with Wandavision and Loki for me, but it consistently switches between dark/gritty and fun kids show.

This episode was just generic boss battle with no emotional stakes at all, which is quite the letdown after two fantastic episodes (albeit with their own issues). The runtime was a whopping 35 something minutes, which just shows that this episode was set up to be underwhelming because the series didn't build suspense and stakes and therefore didn't need much time for the finale.

Marvel needs to stop trying to apply the boring marvel formula which works for popcorn movies, not TV. Build stakes and focus on character interactions. Let the CGI come when needed, not rely on it.

I was still entertained by the episode and the post credits scene was fantastic, but it predictably ended in a generic superhero battle in a bland location with no stakes.

Great Ending to a Great show but season 2??
dari-272244 May 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Moon knight has been one of my favorite marvel shows and i have been stoked every week to watch the new episode. This was a great conclusion as we Steve and Marc finally be able to work together and live with each other normally. Jake Lockely at the end is chosen as Khonshu's avatar basically making marc and steven also the avatar? Leaving a big mystery in how moon knight is going to have a big role in the MCU. Maybe Khonshu did it purposely so Marc and Steven still are the avatars because he likes them do much, like a mind game because they aren't sure that they have a 3rd personality. So will Marc and Steven make another appearance in the MCU as Moon Knight, or will Jake Lockley solidify his role as moon knight and be the Moon Knight scene in the future. We will have to see.

A Fun, But Underwhelming Finale
AnimatedCritic8 May 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I wouldn't say this finale is bad, but it's an extremely underwhelming episode. I though the action was really good. The scene where Mr. Knight fought of Armit's goons in a single shot was really well done.

The biggest problem with this finale was how it was extremely rushed, as of it wanted to reach the end as fast as it can. Plot points and moments, such as Layla getting an avatar, kind of just happen, and the plot keeps moving. The biggest example of that is when Jake took over off screen, and it cuts to Harrow being dead. This felt like a cop out to a serious degree.

Not all was bad. The kaiju battle, while nonsensical, was somewhat fun. The CGI was good as well.

Overall, while it was fun, it was a finale that should've been much longer. So many plot points were resolved in an underwhelming way, and it was somewhat disappointing.

Another rushed finale
Nagitokomeda4 May 2022
An issue with these Disney+ Marvel shows is how underwhelming and rushed the finales can be. Sadly, Moon Knight is no exception. The last episode slowed the pacing down to bring us some fantastic character development, but it sadly means this finale has too much to do in a single moment. There are some solid beats and cool scenes, but the attempts at wrapping up the story and finishing arcs feels rushed and sloppy.

aadityakalal-337194 May 2022
Not only the VFX, but this time Marvel came up with some brilliant plots & actors. Hands-down Oscar Issac is the best actor till date in this Marvel-Mania, the transition between the characters is too smooth. Good job by Team_Moonknight.

The Only Real Superpower
tristan_194 May 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Moon Knight delivers a finale with a sharp scenario and excellent acting from everyone. The episode flew by so quick too. The acting is still excellent, and the moment when Marc goes back for Steven is so touching. Steven is the only real superpower Marc ever needed. Wow.

The dialogue is on point. A moment particularly wowed me by the end, when Khonshu asks Marc to put down Ammit, in Harrow's body, for crimes she may commit in the future if she escapes. It's common storytelling, and a trope that comes back in fiction, and the viewer almost can see where the God is coming from. Then Marc notices Khonshu is turning just like Ammit, with her philosophy. It's a fine piece of writing.

The episode reminded me a bit of WandaVision's finale with all the fighting scenes. The action was interesting, but nothing crazy. I do feel like some of the scenes went too quick, like you're trying to think a bit about what's going on, and it's already over. But overall, it was pretty solid. Taweret channeled a little Diana Prince through Layla, who felt like the MCU's Wonder Woman at times, with the armor shield, and the interactions with the little girl.

We got back to the facility also, which was super interesting once again. The episode ends on a pitch perfect note, and fitting score once again. As for the end credits scene, it is pretty freaking great. Meet My Friend Jake !

What an astounding ending
GomezAddams6664 May 2022
This has been by far one of the greatest stories Marvel Studios has ever told.

This series delivered on everything they promised, it was action packed, filled with larger than life characters, and above all, an emotionally compelling story, a journey where good and evil are an abstract.

May Calamary shined as the fearless Layla El-Faouly, and Ethan Hawke's Arthur Harrow was magnificently scary, but this series could not have been made without the amazing talent of Oscar Isaac in the dual role of Marc Spector and Steven Grant, he went into small details so the audience would know which character he was playing without him even speaking, he is a master of his craft.

The producers paid enormous tribute to Egyptian mythology, and the respect they show to it is amazing, and the fast paced story telling did make it feel like a 6-hour movie, not a dull moment in the entire series, I don't have enough praises for this magnificent series, Moon Knight has risen!

Pretty Good for the Most Part
Coolmade20004 October 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I mostly believe the finale episode headed into the right direction.

I'm glad to see how Marc's character development grew along the series and seeing him here was great. Saving Steven by Marc's choice was also good for me too. I really love the start of these two personalities to be complete opposites of each other to later become inseparable as seen in this episode. The reveal of Layla's superhero alter-ego was incredible. I saw so much of female and Egyptian identities represented well through Layla. I absolutely adored the action scenes too. I really love the enlarged battle between Khonshu and Amit. I completely disregarded the quality of CGI in this battle and just went along for the epic battle of the gods, and I was throughly entertained, believe me.

On the contrary, I will admit to points that didn't sit well with me as I watched this episode. Starting with the runtime, considering the ridiculous amount of time for ending credits to include the cast, crew, & international credits and how short the episode is compared to the first five episodes, I was worried this episode would rush through to end. Unfortunately, I stand correct.

The scene where Marc switches to Jake to take down Marrow felt cheated to me. That scene felt like the series had to cut a whole minute or two to keep the ball rolling, except the ball ended up bouncing over the surface that it was suppose to roll on and landed on the spot that continues the narrative.

I'm glad we got to see an appearance of Jake Lockley, but I am a bit disappointed that the build up to introduce him took a whole season up to the very last minute of the show.

I don't want to complain about this episode. I did enjoy it.

Good but very rushed
pjdickinson-278224 May 2022
At under 35 minutes in length (taking out the recap and titles) this hurtled to a conclusion that didn't fully live up to the promise of the previous episodes but this is still a superior Marvel show for Disney+.

Wow! Oscar Isaac is a gem that is to be preserved. A quite satisfactory end but still with an indecisive ending about the reality of Marc Spectre. Looking forward to season 2 !!

A rushed spectacle, ending in typical MCU fashion
This is not entirely a good thing. After last week's great character driven episode, this episode, being the finale, had a lot to unpack and had a standard to fulfil. Imagine the disappointment when I saw this was one of the shorter episodes of the season. This gave me the fear of it being rushed.

We'll start with the good of this episode. The cinematography of this episode was great, the wide shots in particular giving us a sense of scale and colours which made it that much more entertaining to watch, even if it was half CGI in the shots. Even shots of the inevitably predictable CGI battle were great, and I wish we got more of these kinds of shots. In particular, more shots of our main characters battling in the foreground with the Gods in the background.

On top of that, the acting was great and has been throughout the show, I don't think I'll ever get tired of characters switching to and from different personalities. From their accents to their body language. It was great.

I expected this episode to feature a lot more Moon Knight as throughout the show he has been there for less than 10 minutes collectively. This ep did not disappoint on that front, and it was fantastic seeing him go alternate between personalities in battle.

Finally, the questions that this episode brings in the latter half of the episode gives us more of the investment into this world and our urge to discover more. This is said to be a limited series, which I'm glad it is, I look forward to seeing this character in future films with this show being the foundation of the character.

This brings us onto the bad.

The former half of the episode had me asking questions, not in the way of intrigue and mystery but has me questioning the plot and plot decisions. It took me out of what was happening by making me blindly accept what was happening. This was largely due to the fact that this episode felt very rushed. The first half had us already into the CGI battle when the prior two episodes had us in different locations entirely dealing with a whole different narrative. It felt, they needed to get this conclusion out there and get to it as quick as they could by just having the script feel like its jumping from place to place and missing a few beats on how we got there. This led to an anticlimactic resolution to the show, left me feeling underwhelmed. It just felt like it was all too easy.

Overall, the episode had small moments that were great, but felt rushed it kept in line with ending how an MCU film/show would typically end which isn't the greatest thing. That being said, this is the strongest MCU show to date for me, largely because of last episode but this episode, despite its flaws, was entertaining nonetheless with a great ending leaving me anticipating Moon Knight's next appearance.

P. S. There is one mid-credits scene so stay tuned.

P. P. S. Again, I have to praise the showrunners for not relying on the larger MCU films & shows to fuel it. This is it's own standalone show and after this episode, it solidifies a great foundation for this character.

P. P. P. S. I hope the next show introduces a MCU TV intro theme, I say in yet another review.

back to cliche super hero
kyrross4 May 2022
The last 2 episode left us to wonder if this serie was in fact something different than the average super hero genre we are use to. And while there was some twists and intersting angle, this last episode bring us back straight to the generic evil vs hero. It wasnt bad, but it was predictable. A lot of CGI fight and less of the mind trick we saw in the last 2 episodes that really got me interested... Also, i know this universe is suppose to be attached to the MCU, but i clearly didnt saw it. Yet another mystical angle to add to this already crowded universe with so much different magic system and mythology that it is hard to keep a straight face naming them all. I know it is in the MCU, but i am glad they didnt reference anything from it... it would have felt out of place. ''And where were you guys when Tanos wiped 50% ?'' .... ''Busy''.. Mcu live well on his own, stop adding new trick into it. As for this show, it was OK... didnt love it, didnt dislike it either. It passed time and i will probably never watch it again.

Yes, it became an interesting episode with a good fight scene.

However I'm just lost. What was the point??

Will it return?

How will it tie in with any of the MCU??

I'm kinda disappointed because this is exactly how I pictured the ending back in episode 3.
nabanaba4 May 2022
For once I'd love to be proven wrong. This is the same old boring and tired Marvel's ending. We've seen this millions of times. Nothing special about it. The most interesting part of the finale is a guy we don't even see until the end of the episode. I guess asking for an ending that didn't involve cgi monsters (gods) punching eachother is too much to ask

pacing is a huge issue in this one. It was all over the place and there's also some weird cuts here and there. Oscar Isaac is still amazing tho as usual but man Harrow's character really fell off by the end of the series.

Something of everything from the previous episodes
forpassord17 May 2022
Some action (possibly the episode this season with the most action), still some dark humor, still Egyptian mysticism, some strangeness like in the fifth episode, and so on. A mix of everything from the previous episodes in other words. But still without getting repetitive!

So all in all this episode was partially a bit weird like the previous episode, but mostly had the great ingredients from all of the episodes to make this episode great too. If you liked the other episodes, I believe that you will like this one as well.

And the WHOLE season have gone practically without references to other MCU movies or series. That is GREAT!!! I am fed up with movies and series that are so entwined that you "MUST" have seen everything else in the MCU universe to avoid spoilers and/or not be able to understand what/why things happens because of reference(s) to other movies and/or series!!!
