I believe it has potential, but, for now, it's a generic show.
rainbow_duckies16 April 2020
"Ollie's Pack" got off to a weak start. We didn't get proper introductions of the characters, their roles in the story and their personalities, as well as an explanation on how the Pack came to be and why a teenager has been chosen to protect it (or at least a hint of a further exploration of these topics). The series just took off as if we already knew what exactly is going on. For now, we've had generic, slice of life-y plots you'd see in many other pieces of media, but with the addition of interdimensional creatures. I believe the Monster Pack has mysteries to uncover, and that would make a great plot for the series. I don't mind auto conclusive, slice of life episodes, but, in this case, it's just bland. I've watched every single episode to date (04/16/2020), but if things remain uninteresting, not just me, but others might give up on watching.

To point out something positive, "Sorry to Father You" is my favorite episode as of now, because this one actually gives us a hint at a bigger thing going on behind the Pack and on why Ollie is The Chosen One. If we get an insight into mysteries like these more often, I would be completely hooked.

It's a Decent Show (With Some Problems)
olliespack-5935720 April 2024
This show is very decent with usually interesting plots and alright characters.

But as interesting as this show may be, it has its problems like Ollie being egocentric at times and the plots and action coming too late.

The animation and characters are good, although it can have pretty jarring facial expressions.

The comedy is very humorous and I actually laugh at some of these jokes.

The characters are decent, as well as the monsters and my favorites are Andre and Bev, two monster bounty hunters and Ashlor, a crocodile with a crush on Ollie.

This show is flawed, but imaginative and creative.

Love a whole lot-good for most people
allexphire14 April 2020
So I first saw the commercials and I instantly thought, "WHAT??? THIS LOOKS HORRIBLE AND GROSS!!!!" Well, I wanted to watch the SpongeBob that was on right before it, so I was watching Nick not keeping track of the time. However, it became 3 before I knew it, and so then SB finshed and the theme song to this came on and I was intantly like "OH NO!!!!" But I couldn't find the remote in time. But now I'm hearing the theme song and I noticed the intresting off-beat ring to it. I was like, hm, this isn't so bad. so it eventually becomes the title picture and it has the pixally music part and a nice title and picture. "Okay, you have me, but just for now." That's what I thought until I saw the whole episode. and I am often not a liker of new shows due to them not being very filled with funny. Like the Loud House, The Casagrandes, and It's Pony. I liked the first episode and then I got bored. Well it's almost been 2 weeks and I am ABSOLUTLY HOOKED on this show. at 2:55 every day I turn on my TV so that way it can turn on, set up the sound bar, cable, and change the channel and I can still catch the whole theme song. I mean honestly Ollie is just the perfect cartoon expression. And if you don't mind some random stuff then you gotta say, he is kinda cute. My favorite so far has been Race to Sploosh Mountain, it is hilarious and really brings out all the emotions of Ollie and his friends. And to parents, so far there is no cartoon violence like gore, flirting, cussing, or sex like in SpongeBob Squarepants. But I mean, don't let week 1 fool you, but even if these themes are added then I would still watch it for the reactions of Ollie, Bernie, and Cleo as they deal with these monsters. Keep the deep tones in the theme song, for that's what made the Fairly OddParents worth watching early. P.S.: this is made my Nelvana for Nick, just like many other shows I liked when I was like 1-4, such as Max&Ruby, so if you or your kid liked that show as a young kid then this might be a great discovery.

Don't ever hault this show, the inoccent but determend smile of Ollie is what is allowing me to swallow. Until I saw this show I really couldn't swallow a thing, and as soon as I saw Ollie I had never felt better!

I am now slowly trying (as they are trying to load) to change all my profile pics to Ollie on many websites.

I love this show and Ollie so much, if you think it's to plain then try watching some of the newer SpongeBob episodes, I love that show for a reason because I like the dark themes, but that was getting me worked up sometimes during the big Covid outbreak, so Ollie came over and calmed me down. Anyone who is anyone should watch it.

Boring and unfunny
CartoonMan202015 May 2020
The artwork and voice acting are decent, but the writing is dull and the jokes suck. It's just plain not funny. It's like drinking warm tap water; no thanks.

More like Ollie's Pack of Dumb and Blandness
nasdagoodshepherd10 April 2020
Nickelodeon from 2019 to 2020. We've got The Casagrandes which is such a great spin-off series due to it's funniest moments and good morals. It's Pony, because it's good vibe of slices of life and Glitch Techs, because of it has action, great animation and wonderful morals. But this? Seriously? Ollie's Pack? I've heard that some people like this show but to keep in mind, this is my opinion so please respect it. Ollie's Pack is obviously a Canadian cartoon and let me tell you something about the show. The premise of this show is just cliché, in fact it has alot of pointless clichés. I honestly don't like Ollie (the main character himself) because no only that he's bland, it's also because he's cocky and somewhat annoying. Also the other characters are just cliché, boring and pointless. While the animation is fine, but the writing is such a bore and the comedy is weak. Yes, the morals are fine, but it didn't help enough that this show is such a cliché mess. Ollie's Pack is one of the stupidest cartoons I have ever seen, especially from Nickelodeon and Canada. I want to hate this show, but I don't hate it...I personally dislike it very much and I won't recommend it to anyone at all. I'm giving Ollie's Pack a 4.4/10

Sucks Big Time
jamesgrove-7357017 April 2020
This show is just awful. I hated every single second of each episode so far. The characters are bland, obnoxious and Breadwinners-esque, especially Ollie. The art style looks generic, and, in a way, resembles "It's Pony" (another show I hate, but a little less than this show). The backgrounds look like a ten year-old drew them, not a professional artist. There are a few animation errors from time to time, which just adds to the "already awful" animation. The whole concept of a demon-looking kid gang using a backpack to capture and accumulate monsters just sounds lame and, in no way, makes any sort of logical sense. Who wrote this show, Dora the Explorer? I'm starting to give up on Nickelodeon and just watch Cartoon Network shows instead. Alright, let's see what's new on CN..... ThunderCats Roar? Hmmm.... I wonder if this reboot will be good.... *watches first two episodes of said reboot* OH. MY. GOD. Anyways, this show deserves all the hate it got and also deserves to be cancelled immediately after Season 1.

Nickelodeon needs to stop producing shows with a Canadian animation team. I have nothing against Canadian animation, in fact, I actually like some of their animated shows. But, Ollie's Pack is a very obvious exception. Pedro Ebola is doing a very poor job with this show, I'm very disappointed. One of the worst Nickelodeon shows I've ever watched. I don't care if this show just started, I'm not giving a chance to a show that doesn't deserve it.

The Infuriating Chosen One! 😡
a34trgv110 August 2023
Back in 2020, I thought the first episode of Ollie's Pack was a very bad first impression to a show that needed a little more time to find its footing. Watching a few more episodes on Paramount+, I realize just how stupid I was to give this show the benefit of the doubt! Whatever potential this show had was squashed, flatten and set on fire by its horrendous execution! From the awful writing to the infuriating main character, this is yet another prime example of how NOT to make a cartoon for children!

Created by Pedro Eboli and Graham Peterson, this show follows a young boy who's chosen to protect a sacred backpack, that's actually an interdimensional doorway, from evil monsters with the help of his friends. You'd think this show would dedicate ample time to establishing why Ollie was chosen to be the protector of the pack, who created the pack, and what would happen if it fell into the wrong hands. And does this show do that? OF COURSE NOT!!! Instead it handwaves the origin story in its "tell, don't show" intro and makes the pack nothing more than a regular backpack with the interdimmensional doorway being the only perk! I've said it before and I'll say it again: this is UNACCEPTABLE WRITING! By not taking ample time to build the world and show the origin of the MacGuffen, you immediately rob your audience of getting invested of the story you want to tell! You also rob the sense of urgency in the conflict because besides the interdimensional doorway, there's nothing about the pack that makes it dangerous in the wrong hands. Say what you will about the Transformers movies overuse of the MacGuffen trope, at least that spend time establishing the importance of the MacGuffens and what could happen if the Decepticons get their claws on them. Ollie's Pack is less concerned with its world building and more concerned with being a painfully slow and unfunny cartoon. You've seen the "no rules" plot, you've seen the "enviable new hero" plot, you've seen the "non-human character being cool in school" plot, you've basically seen every plot of each episode in this show. This show doesn't do any of these plots better or even well for that matter. It just goes through the motions playing the expected story beats and as such it makes the 11 minute runtime feel like 11 years! The humor is also beyond unfunny with tired puns, weak slapstick, pointless cutaway gags, and groan worthy gross out. This isn't your every day bad writing: this is INEXCUSABLY bad writing!

There's not a single character here that I wouldn't toss in the empty void if given the chance. Starting with our titular excrement wipe (I refuse to call him a hero -.-), Ollie is yet another infuriating main character that would rank very high in my Top 10 Worst Cartoon Main Characters list on Tumblr! He's such a selfish, spoiled, lazy, whiny, annoying and stupid brat that shouldn't even be the main character, much less the chosen one. He's also such at terrible friend, he makes Rigby from Regular Show look like Tails from the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise. Cleo and Bernie are often gaslighted, guilt-tripped, manipulated and thrown under the bus by Ollie, yet they STILL hangout with him?! I'd feel more sorry for them if they were more interesting characters. Alas, they're just parrots with no interesting personalities of their own. Captain Wowski is such a terrible conscience and mentor, he might as well just not be in the show. Then there's vice principal Magna, who's the typical selfish and arrogant authority figure that makes school feel like a prison with a strict "no fun" policy. How is it that it's 2023 and we're STILL portraying school faculty members as people who hate their jobs and hate fun? None of the monsters they face are anything to write home about either as they're all just generic villains of the week with weak motivations and non-threatening tactics.

The voice acting is just awful, as if the director forbid any of the actors from going anywhere above unenthusiastic. James Harnett sounded very weak as Ollie, making him sound more like a tired teenager than an easy going kid. Corey Doran gave Captain Wowski a generic mid-30s mle voice when he should sounded older and wiser. David Berni sounded very bored as Bernie, ditto Ana Sani as Cleo. Ned Petri just sounded apathetic and unengaging as Magna. I'm sure they were all trying their best with the material they were given, but what they desperately needed was a better voice director.

The animation is yet another casualty of this show's awful quality. This is some of Nelvana's worst animation in recent memory. The characters look very generic looking with simple body shapes, crooked looking noses, and basic clothing attire. The vice principal also somewhat resembles disgraced animator Chris Savino, but with glasses. Intentional or not, someone on the production crew should've spoken up and change this design immediately because it's implying the creators excuse Savino's toxicity enough to base a character off of him. Gross. There's also a severe lack of shadows and shading, which makes the designs lack depth, especially in action scenes. Speaking off, they are some of the worst action scenes I've seen in a cartoon as the characters don't have any mass to them, the cinematography is basic at best and due to the lack of urgency, there's just no rhyme or reason to them. The backgrounds are pretty well detailed with the forest, school and Ollie's house feeling lived in and expansive. The other dimensions we see don't look nearly as interesting though as they have flat colors and not nearly as much detail. It's very unfortunate the best thing I can say about the animation is the backgrounds, for the most part, look alright; and that's barely a compliment, if you can even call it that.

Nick made the right call not picking this show up as a Nicktoon, but shot themselves in the foot by agreeing to distribute it. Ollie's Pack is an infuriatingly terrible cartoon that fails at every aspect! The writing is unacceptably bad, the characters are infuriating, the voice acting is stale, the animation is mediocre and it's not even close to funny. This is on par with my early short stories from when I was a teenager: poorly concocted, rushed, and painfully slow. It most certainly deserves the worst fate to bestow on a piece of entertainment: to be ignored and forgotten! Do NOT watch Ollie's Pack! Don't even bother thinking "well it can't be that bad." I can confirm that it can and it only gets worse the longer you watch! Save yourself the trouble and don't even bother looking into this stupid show -.-

Ollie's Pack is a Mediocre Show
y-565704 November 2022
Before I start, if anyone likes the show, that's fine. But I find this show painfully average. I also used to like this show but rewatching it changed my opinion.

The story is about a 13 year old kid named Ollie who has a monster pack that has a portal to dimension.

First of all, let's talk about the characters: Ollie is mostly unlikable due to being horrible to his friends and family members in multiple episodes like in one episode he lets one of his monsters impersonate the police which is a felony or when he cheated on a test in The Take Over and he received no consequences for anything he does.

Cleo and Bernie are alright characters with nothing interesting going for them like one's a comic relief and one's a Lisa Simpson.

CW is pretty bland to be honest and has no reason to appear.

As for the comedy, it's pretty weak. I rarely laughed at anything and the only things I laughed at Cleo's insults to Courtney. But I got annoyed at the comedy being repetitive and unfunny.

The tone is extremely off-putting as it switches from a goofy show to a mean-spirited show very quickly. For example: Lord of The Caf is about this monster trying to be the principal because he won't give them recess and wants them to study, but this episode got cruel as the kids chase after Ollie and his friends and nearly got them killed and the episode had to make Cleo and Bernie unlikable as they abandoned Ollie and blamed him for everything.

The monsters are alright or bland. Most of them have little to no personality.

The animation is probably the strongest point about this show because how fluid everything looks and the character designs look decent at best

So I give Ollie's Pack a 5/10. It's not the worst cartoon ever but I think it's painfully average and I don't see myself watching it again.
