Manuel Masalva, known for portraying Ramón Arellano Félix in Narcos: Mexico, is hospitalized in Dubai and remains in a medically induced coma after contracting a severe bacterial infection while traveling in the Philippines.
The infection was described as “very aggressive” by his manager, Jaime Jaramillo Espinosa, CEO of Jim Management, who confirmed Masalva’s condition as critical but stable. In late March, doctors discovered the bacteria had reached his lungs, prompting emergency surgery. He is currently being treated with antibiotics and has shown signs of response, according to Espinosa.
Masalva is receiving care outside his home country. As a result, his family and close friends have sought financial assistance to manage rising medical costs. Actor Mario Morán, a longtime friend, shared an emotional appeal through Instagram, asking for donations to a GoFundMe campaign set up for the family.
“My brother is fighting for his life far from home,” Morán said in Spanish.

Narcos: Mexico actor Manuel Masalva remains in critical but stable condition after being placed in a medically induced coma following the contraction of a “very aggressive bacteria” while traveling in the Philippines, Deadline confirmed.
Jaime Jaramillo Espinosa, the CEO of Mexican management agency Jim Management and Masalva’s manager, first relayed the news to the Los Angeles Times, which reported that Masalva is currently hospitalized in Dubai.
In late March, Masalva underwent emergency surgery after doctors uncovered the bacterial infection, which had then reached his lungs. Per Espinosa, he is on antibiotics and his lungs are shown to have responded to the treatment.
Fellow Mexican performer and close friend Mario Morán posted a video on Instagram prior to the weekend asking for donations to the family’s GoFundMe, given the international costs associated with Masalva’s hospitalization outside of his home country.

Perhaps unsurprisingly, a season high number of viewers tuned in to “The Bachelorette” last night to see Clare Crawley exit the show having found love, and Tayshia Adams take her place.
A total of 5.3 million total viewers watched last night’s episode, which represents a 15% jump from last week and a 300,000 increase on the season 16 premiere. The episode’s 1.4 rating among adults 18-49 matches the premiere for a season high. ABC, like a couple other networks, turned to election coverage at 10 p.m., scoring a 0.5 rating and 2.7 million viewers off the back of “Bachelorette.”
Elsewhere on a very crowded night, CBS comedies “Young Sheldon” and “Mom” both returned to series lows. “Young Sheldon” scored a 0.7 rating and 6.5 million viewers, which represents a full 1 million fewer viewers than its previous low. “Mom” (without Anna Faris for the first time) came in with a 0.6 rating and 4.7 million viewers, down a sizable chunk...

Amid the ongoing election chaos, “The Masked Singer” kept the show going on Wednesday night.
The Fox singing competition topped the ratings charts with a 1.6 rating among adults 18-49 and 6.3 million total viewers. That’s pretty much exactly even on the week before, which is not too shabby considering the election furore going on around it. Later on, fellow Ken Jeong series “I Can See Your Voice” ticked up from last episode to a 1.1 rating and 4.3 million viewers, a 15% bump in the latter metric.
NBC managed to top its rival broadcast networks for the second night of election coverage, averaging a 0.8 rating and 3.4 million viewers across the night. It’s worth noting that the network’s coverage ran from 8-11 p.m., while ABC and CBS aired their regular schedules until 10 p.m.

CBS’ Big Brother was the top-rated show in primetime Thursday, scoring a 1.0 rating in the adults 18-49 demographic to go along with 4.14 million viewers. It teamed with fellow reality mate Love Island to help the network finish No. 1 in the key demo overall in early Nielsen numbers. ABC was tops in viewers behind the second night of two Holey Moley specials
Both networks’ fast-affiliate numbers were impacted by local-market preemptions last night because of the NFL Network’s Thursday Night Football opener, Cleveland-Cincinnati, so some adjustments are likely. But so far, Big Brother‘s showing last night was even with last week’s Thursday offering while Love Island was up a tenth; both had to compete with the NFL season opener on NBC last week.
Holey Moley‘s special is up two tenths from last week’s part 1, which came after the competition show’s season finale.

“Dancing With the Stars” began in controversial fashion on Monday night, as Carole Baskin of “Tiger King” fame made her first appearance, while an ad paid for by her late husband’s family aired opposite her debut in certain markets.
Numbers-wise, the premiere was clearly a success for ABC, as the latest season kicked off with a 1.3 rating among adults 18-49 and averaged 8.1 million viewers across its two hours. That represents a 30% ratings bump from last season’s premiere. The season 29 curtain raiser was also the highest-rated “Dancing With the Stars” premiere since 2017. Following that, the Disney-owned network’s “Vomo: Vote Or Miss Out” special scored a 0.4 rating and just under 3 million total viewers. The special, which featured a whole bunch of celebrities and politicians imploring the audience to “Vote or Miss Out,” was hosted by Kevin Hart on behalf of former First Lady Michelle Obama’s nonpartisan organization When We All Vote.

CBS’ unscripted combo Big Brother and Love Island helped the network to the top ratings spot Thursday, on a night President Donald Trump’s 70-minute speech from the White House lawn in primetime wrapped the Republican National Convention.
Big Brother scored a night-leading 1.0 rating and 4.01 million viewers, with the all-star edition off a tenth from Wednesday’s episode, which had matched season-best numbers in the demo. It was followed by Love Island, which ticked up a tenth compared with Tuesday’s episode to match its premiere demo number. CBS’ convention coverage followed.
As for that final night of the RNC at 10 p.m., ABC led among the broadcasters in early numbers from Nielsen, as it did for the final night of the Democratic National Convention. It combined with repeats of Holey Moley and To Tell the Truth to make the network the most watched of the night.

The quarantined second season of Love Island premiered on CBS on Monday and took a two-tenths hit from last year’s freshman debut. Still, the reality dating competition in which hot and bothered singles are essentially stuck on an island to find “love” scored a 0.4 rating in the adults 18-49 demographic and 1.94 million viewers, plenty enough to finish No. 1 among primetime’s new offerings.
The first night of the Republican National Convention was on par with last week’s Democratic National Convention among the broadcast news networks. NBC and ABC tied in the demo followed by CBS in early numbers that are expected to adjust when finals are delivered.

From Democrats and Republicans rallying against Trump’s handling of the pandemic to the emotional moment of silence for George Floyd to Michelle Obama’s memorable “It is what it is” speech, it was all about the first night of the 2020 Democratic National Convention on Monday night. However, it was all about which network came out on top. For night one, NBC and ABC led the night with its telecast.
Both NBC and ABC shared the top spot delivering a 0.3 in the adults 18-49 demographic with CBS just a tenth behind with a 0.2. ABC raced ahead in viewership, netting 2.12 million viewers while NBC garnered 1.91 million viewers. CBS earned 1.74 million viewers. NBC and CBS tied for first place overall on Wednesday, as “Big Brother” led the way with a 1.1 rating and 4.2 million total viewers. It helped the Spanish-language network tie with ABC for the overall win in 18-49 on a night that also included NBC’s 30 Rock special and the season finale of Fox’s Labor of Love.

Univision’s night also included Médicos and a Chivas-Club America soccer game.
NBC aired its one-hour 30 Rock: A One-Time Special, which returned the cast from Tina Fey’s acclaimed sitcom that ran on the network from 2016-2013 to promote the launch of new NBCUniversal streamer Peacock.

“There are no bad ideas, Lemon. Only good ideas that go horribly wrong.” – Jack Donaghy Thursday night’s “30 Rock” reunion special, which was really NBC’s upfront presentation and longform advertisement for parent company NBCUniversal’s new streaming platform Peacock, settled for a soft 0.4 rating among adults 18-49 and 2.5 million viewers. Those are not good numbers, but there are a few caveats that make them a little more understandable — and possibly even digestible for NBC executives. At first glance, the numbers look bad. “30 Rock: A One-Time Special” was outperformed outright in the 8 o’clock hour by ABC’s putt-putt golf competition “Holey Moley.” In the key demo in the same time slot, the Tina Fey/Robert Carlock nicety for NBC tied a rerun of CBS’ “Young Sheldon” and was topped by Univision’s “La Rosa De Guadalupe.” In terms of total viewers, in addition to “Holey Moley,” both “Young Sheldon...

Miami — “I must check it out. I’ve been hearing a lot about the show,” host Carson Kressley (“Queer Eye”) joked at Parrot Analytics’ 2nd Global TV Demand Awards as “Game of Thrones” swept two of its biggest plaudits: Most In-Demand TV Series in the World, along with Most In-Demand Drama Series. The awards ceremony took place Tuesday evening, Jan. 21, at the Natpe conference in Miami.
The other top kudo, for comedy series, went to “The Big Bang Theory.”
“Game of Thrones’” double whammy would be seen as many as a shoo-in, given that Parrot Analytics’ takes into consideration not only video viewing but viewer engagement across multiple platforms: Social media, peer-to-peer protocols, photo sharing, blogging, and research platforms.
The most engaging highpoint of the 2nd Global TV Demand Awards which respond to the revolution in TV consumption and the global reach of TV shows, was sparked, however, by a show that bowed on Sept.

Two years ago, Omar Apollo was sitting in the attic where he was living in the small town of Hobart, Indiana, with his guitar and laptop. He recorded a two-minute marvel of achingly tender R&b called “Ugotme,” which a friend persuaded him to upload to Spotify. The next day, the song was on the service’s “Fresh Finds” playlist.
