Is on you

Warning: Spoilers
Meeting the parents take a dark turn. The film does well in leaving the viewer on the edge of their seat. The clash of the classes is played out between the poor girl and the rich one that invited her to the mansion for the weekend.

There are creepy wood premonition murder scenes. What let's it down in the ending. It leaves a bitter taste.

Terrible
ddquezergue24 April 2021
45 min into the movie and NOTHING substantial has happened. There is ZERO chemistry between the Anna character and girlfriend. The dialog is unnatural. The acting is mostly terrible. Over all, it's just bad.

The glowing reviews I've seen here make me believe they watched a different movie than the one I viewed.

Directed by a high schooler

Actors I assume were volunteers and the echo with them talking in the house is awful. I haven't even made it half way through and it's comical. I love horror movies and don't mind low budget, but this is bad.

Poor Ending.. because they didn't write one.
beezermike5 December 2020
It started out to be like it might turn out to be at least an average movie... until the ending. It has no ending! They didn't write one! This story moves quite slowly (intentionally burning clock) telling a not very interesting story that still could have given an interesting ending. It's like they got to the time to write the ending and broke for lunch and took the rest of the month off. Maybe the last ten pages got lost.. or got eaten by the dog? One reviewer said it's like "Rosemary's Baby"?, "The Shining"?, "The Wicker Man"? Those were all fine movies... that he must not have never seen because Onus can't hold a candle to any of those movies. No comparison at all! With no ending, this movie is a big disappointment. A wasted 90 minutes I'll never get back.

Nice acting but nothing more
Kremer-Thomas2 December 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Onus is unfortunately a very disappointing film. The horror is very limited. The actors' acting performance is good, but not good enough to save the one and a half hours of boredom. Equipment and ambience are well chosen. The end of the film raises more questions than a Chinese manual for a French toaster.

The visions that haunt the main protagonist make no sense. The reaction of the young woman when she tries to escape is simply stupid. In several shots you see a whole collection of walking sticks with metal knobs. Why doesn't she take one as a precaution to defend herself? Probably because this plot would not have fitted with the script writer, but it only makes the movie more unbelievable. The argument that she was chosen because no one will miss her is nonsensical. Even if the girl doesn't keep in touch with her family, it will eventually become apparent that she has disappeared. At the latest, when the rent is not paid, someone will ask questions.

All in all I would not recommend the film to anyone in their right mind. A little more background on the being they sacrific for, a little more action and the film would have won a lot.

This is under the category of horror.
cirisortiz5 December 2021
This has to be the most boring horror movie ever. Not a single likeable character. The worse, the only non-member of the family, so I'm assuming she is the intended victim. Goes to an estate dressed like a garbage collector, is nosy and rude. Her acting is non existing. I could not finish it. I hope she dies. Heck, I hope they all do.

low budget but inventive

Warning: Spoilers
Very much a 2020 movie. the cllass system is explored and the bad guys win because theyre rich. obviously low budget but the film manages to get around that for the most part by being interesting and featuring some decent central performances. the cast are all pretty good, with special mention to the two leads, while the script is solid if not a little underdevelop. there are some good ideas here.

Rough around the edges, but not bad
drake_evan10 March 2022
I don't understand the low score for this one. Sure, the editing could have been more aggressive here and there, and I didn't love the way the actor playing the mother delivered her lines, but neither of those things were bad enough to ruin it.

The story was quite good, the themes were clear without being clunky, and they did a good job building tension and dread.

If you need jump scares, or if you can't get past typical low-budget-movie problems (like sound or lighting issues) then this one probably isn't for you - but I liked it, and I'd like to see what the creator could do with more cash.

A great low budget British folk horror.

Onus is a smart and thought-provoking film, well written with excellent acting, brilliant cinematography and great music. If you like Rosemary's Baby, The Shining and The Wicker Man then you'll love this.

It was pretty scary. Better than the Conjuring and similar horror movies. My nephew Atticus would like it
