'The Affected (2020)' is a short film about a woman who refuses to take her seat on an plane until a man who's being deported is taken off the flight. The woman in question is never seen onscreen; instead, the film focuses on the ramifications of her protest. The story is told through a series of pseudo vignettes, ultimately feeling somewhat voyeuristic - as if you're also a passenger on the plane eavesdropping on the situation. It works rather well and is a distinct approach to the material. The affair strikes a good balance between comedy and drama, commenting on its central theme in relatively nuanced ways. It's an interesting, typically enjoyable experience. 7/10

Funny, Powerful, Perfect.

One of the best and most effective short films I have seen. A masterclass in short story filmmaking. Dancing between satire and a very powerful center, the director handles the balance perfectly. I look forward to seeing more work from her.
