The best of the three so far..

This season has it all. We get more depth about our main characters and New characters were introduced. That cliffhanger at the end of of ninth episode with Dracula was amazing. The hype is already high for the forth season. Also, I feel sorry about Hector. The poor man has gotten into a lot. I hope he gets his revenge.

Season Three Review
southdavid21 April 2020
I thought the second season of Castlevania, whilst certainly having its moments, was weighed down by half of the show revolving around Dracula's court -t he stuff involving Trevor and Sypha was excellent. I felt the third season was better in that regard, in the sense that although we do keep up with other characters, and their plots will no doubt pull back into the overall story - this was mostly an adventure for Trevor and Sypha.

Following the death of Dracula, Alucard (James Callis) has control of the family castle. Trevor (Richard Armitage) and Sypha (Alejandra Reynoso) leave, ostensibly to find her caravan, but happily finding danger and adventure on the road. They find more than they bargained for though when arriving at a small town, whose church was damaged in a creature attack and is now populated by Sala (Navid Negahban) and his band of fanatical monks. Alucard combats his new loneliness by training two former slaves of a Japanese Vampire in how to defeat his kind. Meanwhile, Hector (Theo James) and Isaac (Adetokumboh M'Cormack) both deal with the consequences of their respective roles in Dracula's defeat.

So the elements of the show that have been wonderful since the start remain so. It looks fantastic, even more so towards the end of the season when a couple of graphical flourishes take it even further. It's still spectacularly horrendously violent - faces are eaten, heads are lopped off, people are immolated - lovely stuff. The interaction between Trevor and Sypha is wonderful, genuine affection clothed in mocking banter, Richard Armitage is again brilliant. I've already alluded to the fact it's a better story than the second season, but another area the show has improved is with the sound mixing. The vocal performances no longer feel like it's a redub session and are less destracting.

So why not perfect scores? Well, all the "secondary" stories, though they feel important to where the show is going, take a little longer than is perhaps necessary to get to their key points. Maybe this is because the show has 10 episodes, rather than the previous seasons 8. That said, it's a big step forward from the second season and a promising one for where the show might go.

Closing the mystery

Warning: Spoilers
This review contains spoilers.

Castlevania's tenth episode in the third season is entitled "Abandon All Hope". The episode takes place immediately after the ninth episode and resolves the dangling mysteries.

The tenth episode feels like more of a finale than the previous seasons finales. The episode has a grand encounter for Sypha, Trevor, and Saint Germain. This encounter was an interesting end to the story of Lindenfeld. Even if the story was predictable in the Chapel's evils being hidden. All of the characters come to some kind of conclusion by the end of this episode.

The main story with Trevor and Sypha comes to an exciting conclusion that is worth watching this episode all the way through. It felt as if Trevor and Sypha were put to the test as they had to deal with a threat they could not contain.

I would recommend "Abandon All Hope".

Grade: B

Castlevania Season Three

Castlevania's third season is in many ways an improvement over the previous two seasons. This season has a conclusion for most of the characters in the finale. In addition, the season feels more focused in the sense that each of the characters has a focus. The third season has each of the characters having a specific goal. The animation and the voice acting are of a high quality.

Isaac's story is much improved over the previous season. I felt that the season had Isaac participating in interesting challenges across the season. He even dealt with humans that he had to respect which challenged his old beliefs. It was scenes like these where the tension is palpable that were highlights in this season.

The arc with Sypha and Trevor was conventional but enjoyable. It was obvious that Lindenfeld had a dangerous secret and it was only a matter of time until the pair discovered it. The introduction of Saint Germain was welcome and made the season more enjoyable.

The season has the return of Hector and Carmilla. This arc is expanded as the audience gets to see Styria. There is not much of an explanation on the backstory of the vampires in Styria but the audience gets to enjoy new aesthetics.

I would recommend Castlevania season three.

Grade: B.

It had it's good moments like the battle and where we see dracula and I liked Saint Germain. It also had its wtf moments like the Judge that trevor and belnades team up with. The whole go to the apple tree and, I have my little pleasures was an obvious reference. When they showed us the bones in the pit the audience knows what happened. It was unnecessary to continue to explain what had happened. Another thing that was wtf was the Alucard sex scene. The season made it seem like he and those twins had more of a mentor mentee relationship. There was nothing sexual or flirtatious going on between them. The sex scene was pointless and it was cringeworthy because it was randomly added. The motivations for the twins trying to kill Alucard were stupid. Because he lied about not being able to fly the castle? How do they know this? What do they make their baseless assumptions on? Alucard wasnt shown deceiving them. If there was a scene where he did something to deceive them then yes it makes sense for them to be wary of him But none like that happens. It wasnt set up properly and just seemed like an excuse to include a sex scene. The sex between lenore and hector at least made sense. She was obviously trying to seduce him and get him to trust her completely so he can become her slave. Granted Hector was dumb enough to believe her intentions were anything but deceitful. But then again he was in a miserable state that he probably let his guard down.

It had potential

Warning: Spoilers
My main problem with this episode is that it doesn't respect the audience enough to let us figure out the implied behind the scenes story of "the judge." Trevor and cypha didn't have to walk into his house (...you know, just because) only to find his dead people/children trophies just to exclaim...."wait, those little bones in the pit didn't belong to animals! He killed children too!" Thank you writers, we figured it out. "He did say he had his...'little pleasures.'" Yes, we know, you just showed us that exact flashback a few seconds ago. Cypha didn't even have to deliver the initial "are those animal bones" line. We all remember the cute kid he decided to kill because he was running around. The episode's only redeeming moment was the very end foreshadowing alucards new found misanthropy and possible new understanding of why his father was the way he was, and maybe even regret over his killing of him.
