Picture Tree Intl. has boarded international sales for Constantin Film’s comedy fantasy blockbuster “Chantal and the Magic Kingdom,” which will receive its market premiere in Cannes.
The film has been No. 1 on Germany’s box office charts for four consecutive weeks since its release on March 28, and reached more than 2 million admissions, with a gross of $22.5 million.
“Chantal” is the latest German-language hit from writer-director Bora Dagtekin and producer Lena Schömann. The duo previously delivered “Turkish for Beginners,” the “Fuck You Goehte” franchise and the German remake of “Perfect Strangers,” which have collectively grossed more than $300 million worldwide.
In “Chantal,” the beloved “Fuck You Goehte” character Chantal and her best friend Zeynep are sent on a fantasy adventure into the world of fairytales with a comedic and contemporary twist.
Chantal, an influencer without followers, and Zeynep stumble into the fairytale world through an ancient magic mirror, which they mistake for a social media gimmick.

Video games are more than just merely sources of entertainment. Players have been emotionally attached to video games in ways one could have rarely imagined. And it’s fair enough given the content, elements, characters, lores as well as the experiences that the games offer. This ensures players not only invest their time but also an emotional as well as mental part of themselves.
The death of a character, the betrayal, the unfortunate events, all of these have the ability to break hearts. Similarly, canceled games are something that has bothered gamers for years. After being announced and even trailer releases, there are multiple games that have failed to see the light of the day, crushing the excitement of fans.

In 1987, John McTiernan introduced audiences to his muscular, musclebound movie, "Predator," turning a group of elite soldiers into prey for the titular extraterrestrial hunter. A creature, memorable for its mandibles, dreadlock-like head tentacles, infrared vision, and personal cloaking device. The film became a smash hit, spawning four direct sequels, two crossover films, and expanded universe materials, establishing the franchise as a staple of science fiction cinema.
While the original film is an undeniable classic, "Predator 2," "Predators," and "The Predators" garnered mixed responses, as did the "Alien vs. Predator" crossovers (including the "Alien Vs Predator" anime we'll probably never see). However, the most recent entry, "Prey," is the best-reviewed film of the franchise, reigniting excitement for the venerable series. And now, fans eagerly await the new "Predator" movie coming from "Prey" director Dan Trachtenberg.

There are a few characters in movies that are so popular, like Alien, first introduced in the 1979 Ridley Scott movie. This creature, known as Xenomorph, has appeared in several movies and many games throughout the years. 20th Century Studios recently revealed the trailer for Alien: Romulus, the new entry in this legendary franchise.
Federico Álvarez, the director of the Evil Dead remake, will direct this film, which will release in August of this year with a whole new cast. These are five games that match the movie’s atmosphere.
Alien: Romulus is looking to bring the franchise back to its original setting Alien Romulus the new game about this popular character will be released on August this year.
Ridley Scott’s original universe serves as the basis for an incredible number of games based on the popular character Alien. Generic movie titles like Alien Infestation, Alien vs. Predator (1993), and many more.

After nearly 35 years, the "Predator" franchise is still going strong. Despite a fair share of disappointment during its seven-film (and counting) run, every decade produces a strong chapter that reinvigorates interest in the mysterious alien hunters. John McTiernan's muscle-bound 1987 creature feature starring Arnold Schwarzenegger remains the best. Still, more recent offerings like Nimród Antal's 2010 sequel "Predators" and Dan Trachtenberg's 2022 prequel "Prey" have closed the gap and provided hope for future entries.
Delightfully R-rated, the "Predator" series follows a group of elite alien warriors, brought to life with incredible special effects, who venture to different planets to test themselves against the best killers they can find. Curiously, none of the films have allowed a Predator to claim victory over their most formidable foes, though they do enjoy minor victories that make way for some nasty spine-ripping action. To date, we've seen Predator eliminate its victims in various ways...

Actor Ryan Phillippe shared his experience on the set of his new action thriller film Prey.
Phillippe revealed what about the film he originally connected with. “The idea of being on this plane that goes down in a reserve, for big prey, for big game, it just captured my imagination pretty immediately,” Phillippe told uInterview founder Erik Meers, who first interviewed the actor for the cover of Paper magazine in 2001.
He continued, “You know, I like survival movies, and I felt like this was one where any of us could put ourselves in that situation, mentally, and it’s terrifying, you know, and so it was a really easy sell in regards to what the idea of the movie was, and I like that a lot of times, I think that in its simplicity there is relatability to that because you can imagine what if it happened to you, or whatever.

Alien: Romulus doesn’t hit theaters until August, but filmmaker Fede Álvarez already has the wind at his back. That’s because Ridley Scott and James Cameron — the highly regarded directors behind one of cinema’s ultimate one-two punches, Alien (1979) and Aliens (1986) — have already proclaimed their love for Romulus, which takes place between their two films and very much connects to them. Today, Álvarez and Disney finally pulled back the curtain on the “interquel,” releasing a terrifying 62-second teaser trailer that re-establishes the look and feel of the franchise’s bona fide classics.
The story focuses on a group of twenty-something space colonizers and scavengers who have the misfortune of meeting a Xenomorph inside a dilapidated space station. The film has a notably young cast that’s led by Cailee Spaeny, Isabela Merced, as well David Jonsson, Archie Renaux, Spike Fearn and Aileen Wu. Álvarez says that the idea to...

At the risk of barging too hot out the gate, I'm going to co-sign Chris Evangelista's argument for /Film that there are no bad "Alien" movies. Sure, the various follow-ups to Ridley Scott's classic 1979 original can be polarizing -- especially Scott's gothic prequel films "Prometheus" and "Alien: Covenant" -- but they're never boring, and "Alien" itself remains the rare IP where each individual entry retains the hallmarks of the directors who made them. As though any other franchise would ever let Jean-Pierre Jeunet come in and make a no-holds-barred Jean-Pierre Jeunet sci-fi horror film like "Alien: Resurrection." Just sayin'.
For as much as I would've liked it if Scott got to finish telling the story of the beloved homicidal android David (Michael Fassbender) with his intended prequel trilogy finale "Alien: Awakening," I'm curious to see what Fede Álvarez comes up with playing in this particular sandbox. The "Evil Dead...

After being delayed several months by the writers strike and the actors strike, season 5 of the hit Netflix series Stranger Things finally went into production at the start of the year and is now three months into its twelve month shooting schedule… but in the midst of filming, Finn Wolfhard is also doing the press rounds to promote the Ghostbusters: Afterlife sequel Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire, which is set to reach theatres on March 22nd. An interview with The Hollywood Reporter was part of his press tour, and during that conversation, Wolfhard was asked about the ongoing production of Stranger Things season 5, which will also be the final season of the show. Since this is how it wraps up, it seems fitting that Wolfhard said it will be a return of the dynamics of the first season.

Predator’s journey from Arnold Schwarzenegger’s iconic 1987 sci-fi action film to a successful Hollywood franchise has been remarkable. Dan Trachtenberg’s 2022 Oscar-nominated installment, Prey, starring Amber Midthunder, has been considered one of the franchise’s best films from its inception, and its success quickly led to the announcement of a sequel.

A trailer for Prey has just arrived online – and no, we’re not talking about that Predator movie that was just released a while back. This is a new movie called Prey, which Vertical will be giving a theatrical and VOD release on March 15th. "Prey" was one of the most pleasant surprises of 2022. The film revived the "Predator" franchise after several years in a much-needed timeout following the disappointment that was Shane Black's "The Predator." In fairness, it seems Black signed up to make a different movie than the one we got, but that's neither here nor there. What's important is that director Dan Trachtenberg delivered the goods with his battle between the alien hunter and some unsuspecting Comanche in the 1700s. Now, at long last, Disney has confirmed that a sequel is coming. And, if there is justice in the world, it will be coming to a theater near you.
Very little has been revealed, although Trachtenberg is once again co-writing and directing a movie in the franchise called "Badlands." It will not be a direct sequel to "Prey" and, instead, will be taking us into the future to follow a different...

Good news for everyone — and there were plenty of us – who thought that 10 Cloverfield Lane director Dan Trachtenberg did a fantastic job with 2022's Prey, producing the best Predator movie in many a year. He's back on the hunt for a new movie set in the extraterrestrial tracker universe called Badlands.
Not planned as a sequel to Prey, the new film is being largely shrouded by an invisibility cloak, but The Hollywood Reporter has heard that it'll be set in the future and will once more feature a female lead. And despite it not being a direct follow-up, a connection to Prey would not be out of the question.
Trachtenberg once more cooked up the story with the previous film's writer Patrick Aison, with Aison going on to write the script. It's reportedly far enough along for the cameras to start rolling in July.
That's just one Predator-connected project...

Between apocalyptic disaster films and cosmic terrors à la Lovecraft, the horror genre has the theoretical end of humanity pretty well covered. But what about its beginning?
In Andrew Cumming’s magnificent directorial debut “Out of Darkness,” the filmmaker reverses at full speed into the unknown with an imaginative and gruesome wilderness thriller tracking a group of nomads living 45,000 years ago. Part prehistoric “Prey,” part agnostic spin on The Book of Genesis, the film was written by Ruth Greenberg, and premiered under the more sci-fi sounding title “The Origin” at the BFI Film Festival in 2022. The moniker change is just the latest in a line of nuanced creative decisions that makes this ferocious 87-minute monster movie a testament to meticulous storytelling: a scrupulous feat made even more effective by the film’s use of Stone Age brutality and stark narrative simplicity.

Following the success of Prey, Dan Trachtenberg is returning to direct another Predator film: Badlands, this time set in the future.
Following the wibbly-wobbly mess that was 2018’s The Predator, 20th Century Studios regained its footing with Prey in 2022. Starring Amber Midthunder, it was a back-to-basics approach to the Predator franchise – set in 1719, it told the simple story of Native Americans versus colossal alien big-game hunter.
Director Dan Trachtenberg clearly enjoyed the experience, since he’s signed up to make another Predator film. It won’t be a direct sequel to Prey, however; called Badlands, it is, according to The Hollywood Reporter, set “sometime in the future” and will also feature a female lead. (It’d be amazing if it was Sissy Spacek.)
This initially left us thinking about Predators hunting their human quarry among flying cars and jet packs, until we remembered that 1990’s Predator 2 was set in...

Great news, “Predator” fans: a new pic in the franchise is on the way. And no, it’s not “Prey 2,” although that’s still very much in development. Deadline reports that 20th Century has greenlit “Badlands,” a new standalone tale in the franchise, with “Prey” director Dan Trachtenberg returning to direct. And Patrick Aison, who wrote “Prey,” also returns for the new sequel, with he and Trachtenberg working on the story of “Badlands” together.

Dan Trachtenberg is back in action, directing a fresh ‘Predator‘ movie titled ‘Badlands’. After his 2022 hit ‘Prey’, he’s not slowing down. This time, he’s crafting a whole new story that’s set in the future. And guess what? It’s going to have a strong female lead, just like ‘Prey’.
Now, ‘Badlands’ isn’t a follow-up to ‘Prey’. Nope, it’s a standalone story. The folks behind the scenes are keeping the plot hush-hush, but we know it’s going to be packed with sci-fi action and horror. Trachtenberg’s teamed up again with Patrick Aison, who’s handling the screenplay, based on a story they both dreamed up.
The buzz is, they’re aiming to kick off production this July. And with the success of ‘Prey’, which broke viewing records on Hulu, there’s a lot of excitement around what ‘Badlands’ will bring to the table.

Following the success of “Predator” prequel “Prey,” writer/director Dan Trachtenberg is rolling out a whole new “Predator” franchise at 20th Century Studios.
As first announced by The Hollywood Reporter, Trachtenberg is set to helm “Badlands,” a new “Predator” storyline set in the future and featuring a female lead. Additionally, 20th Century Studios is reportedly planning a slew of “Predator” projects with Trachtenberg overseeing.
Trachtenberg and Patrick Aison were behind the story for “Badlands,” with Aison penning the screenplay. Trachtenberg will direct.
“Prey” was set in 1719 and followed an Indigenous woman (Amber Midthunder) who fought for survival against alien invaders. The film made history on Hulu as the streamer’s biggest premiere ever and was nominated for six Emmys, including Outstanding Television Movie. The IndieWire review praised the film for being a “thrilling journey” that helped revive the franchise.

The "Predator" franchise is back and ready for more. After director Dan Trachtenberg rejuvenated the long-running series with "Prey," the thrilling and (mostly) standalone sequel that took the action back in time to colonial America and put a tribe of Comanche characters at the front and center of the story, 20th Century Studios is clearly taking the right lessons from the film's critical success. In an exciting development, The Hollywood Reporter has the news that Trachtenberg is returning to the director's chair for the next installment, currently titled "Badlands." And there was much rejoicing!
The mind reels at all the possibilities to take the franchise after "Prey" essentially took the property back to its roots with a stripped-down but no less thrilling take on the alien warriors with a thirst for the hunt. Intriguingly, this new film is described as not a direct sequel to "Prey," which many viewers expected...

A new standalone “Predator” movie is in the works at 20th Century Studios, with filmmaker Dan Trachtenberg set to direct.
Plot details for “Badlands,” which will be set in the future, are currently under wraps, but the film will begin production this year.
Trachtenberg landed an Emmy nomination for his 2022 “Predator” prequel “Prey,” which follows a skilled warrior of the Comanche Nation named Naru (Amber Midthunder) as she sets out to protect her people from a mysterious danger threatening their camp.
Variety chief film critic Owen Gleiberman reviewed the film positively in the scope of the franchise, writing, “As an alien-attack thriller, ‘Prey’ is competent and well-paced, though with little in the way of surprise. But the journey of Naru lends it a semblance of emotional coherence that most of the ‘Predator’ films have lacked.”

After reinvigorating the Predator franchise with 2022’s crowd-pleasing Prey, filmmaker Dan Trachtenberg is getting back behind the camera for a new Predator film titled Badlands. The project is not a sequel to Prey but is said to take place in the future. Badlands will feature a female lead, with Trachtenberg penning the story while Patrick Aison writes the screenplay.
Trachtenberg is going into lockdown mode for Badlands, meaning he’ll keep details about the film under lock and key. Reports say development for Badlands is already underway, with July targeted as the project’s production start date.
Following the success of Prey, which many hail as the second-best film in the Predator franchise, Trachtenberg commented on hopes for a sequel, saying, “I can’t really say anything about that right now, but I’ll say while we were finishing the movie, we were having really exciting conversations. In the wake of last year’s Emmy winning spinoff movie Prey, Deadline reports today that director Dan Trachtenberg will be expanding upon the Predator franchise even further with the upcoming Badlands, another standalone Predator movie!
Trachtenberg is on board to write and direct Badlands.
Deadline reports, “The film is a high priority for the studio and sources say Trachtenberg and execs are already meeting with talent for the lead role.”
The site’s report continues, “Plot details are being kept under wraps other than it featuring everyone’s favorite extraterrestrial big game hunter. It is also not known about release plans as the last film exclusively streamed on Hulu (breaking numerous viewerships records for the streamer) but given that 20th Century has been very much back in the theatrical game with films like Boogeyman and the upcoming Alien: Romulus film bowing in theaters, a theatrical premiere isn’t out of the question.

Filmmaker Dan Trachtenberg and 20th Century Studios are going hunting again.
Trachtenberg, who earned an Emmy nomination for his 2022 Predator movie Prey, is returning to the sci-fi action horror franchise to make a new installment.
Titled Badlands, the new Predator feature is not a sequel to Prey, which was set in 1719 and centered on a young Comanche woman forced to fight for survival against the intergalactic hunters, but rather a brand new story. Plot details are being kept secret but this one is said to be set sometime in the future. Like Prey, however, it too will feature a female lead.
As with Prey, Trachtenberg wrote the story with Patrick Aison, with the latter penning the screenplay. The project has been working under invisibility for some time and is far enough along that a July start of production is being planned.
Badlands isn’t the only Predator project in the works.

For over a year, director Erica Tremblay’s acclaimed Sundance drama “Fancy Dance” went undistributed without a means to see it. Its star Lily Gladstone, Oscar-nominated for another Native American-led film, “Killers of the Flower Moon,” has taken time from her awards campaign to champion the film and urge anyone in Hollywood to support it and give it a home.
Today, that effort has finally paid off. Apple Original Films has acquired the global rights to “Fancy Dance” and will release it both in theaters and on Apple TV+ later this year. A release date was not specified, and terms of the deal were not disclosed.
“Our film ‘Fancy Dance’ has found the perfect home with Apple, and I am thrilled to share this beautiful story of two Seneca-Cayuga women with a global audience.” Tremblay said in a statement. “As a Native American filmmaker, seeing my community included in the...

One of the new characters introduced in season 4 of the hit Netflix series Stranger Things was Argyle, a pothead delivery boy for Surfer Boy Pizza who helps some of the returning characters get from California back to their hometown of Hawkins, Indiana. But if you were hoping to see actor Eduardo Franco reprise the role of Argyle in Stranger Things season 5, which will be the final season of the show… well, it sounds like you’re in for disappointment. During an interview on the Steve Varley YouTube channel, Franco said it doesn’t look like he’ll be back for the new season.
Varley told Franco that fans got concerned when they saw he was absent from the cast picture Netflix released to celebrate the start of production on Stranger Things season 5, saying, “(Fans are) they’re thinking you’re not in the season. Can you give us hopes that you are?...

I ruled out half the nominees immediately, but this is still the strongest single category in the history of the Emmys and I agonized over the other four. I had zero interest in The Crown — I watched the first season because my wife asked me to, then I was done. You couldn’t pay me to watch House of the Dragon — I was a Game of Thrones person, but I watched 10 minutes of this and read the reviews and it just seemed like a money grab. I devoured the first season of Yellowjackets, but it jumped the shark in season two. I love Bob Odenkirk and Jonathan Banks, but there have been better seasons of Better Call Saul. I loved The White Lotus — not as much as its first season, but still, Mike White is the best argument for why writers should be allowed to have a writers room of one.

Weird: The Al Yankovic Story won the award for outstanding television movie at the 2023 Creative Arts Emmys.
The other nominees were Dolly Parton’s Mountain Magic Christmas, Fire Island, Hocus Pocus 2, and Prey.
This is one of eight Emmy Awards that Weird: The Al Yankovic Story was nominated for. The film is co-written and produced by Yankovic himself, telling the story of his ascent to parody artist superstardom. It also marks the first Emmy win for Yankovic, who is no stranger to awards attention, having five Grammy wins to his name among several other notable accolades.
Weird sees Daniel Radcliffe stepping into the title role, for which he’s nominated for a Primetime Emmy for lead actor in a television movie or limited series. The movie is also nominated for its casting, music composition (for which it has already won), original music and lyrics, sound mixing, picture editing, and writing.

After years of silence, fans are wondering if a Prey 2 could ever be released by 20th Century Studios.
Dan Trachtenberg's Prey debuted on Hulu back in 2022, telling a prequel story to the beloved Predator franchise. The film takes place in 1719, with the iconic Predator monster first coming to Earth and tormenting a tribe of Native Americans.
While - from the outside - Prey may have looked like a straight-to-streaming franchise cash-grab, the film turned out to be anything but, becoming critically acclaimed and showing up on plenty of 'Best of 2022' lists.

Even outside of Star Wars, prequels tend to get a bad rap. From answering questions that didn’t need answering (and destroying the mysteries of the original in the process) to repeating established formulas ad nauseum, it’s deceptively easy for these blasts from the past to trip over their previously established lore. After all, it’s kind of hard to tell an engaging story when audiences already know what happens next.
Thankfully, the horror genre seems to be especially blessed with filmmakers that see prequels as an opportunity to tell original stories within an established world. I mean, some folks even thought that last year’s Pearl was even better than X, and the trailer for Arkasha Stevenson’s upcoming The First Omen looks like it kicks all kinds of ass – and that’s precisely why we’ve decided to come up with a list highlighting six underrated horror prequels for your viewing pleasure!

The newest trend in horror is this: once you’ve exhausted your franchise with as many sequels as possible, many of them delivering diminishing returns, unfortunately, the only way forward is backward. Recent examples include “Prometheus,” “Prey,” “Pearl,” “Insidious: Chapter 3,” “Annabelle: Creation,” and “Ouija: Origin of Evil”.
