- "Heroes" - "Chapter Six: Dying of the Light" - Oct. 20, 2008
Previously On:A bad puppet man captured Meredith; Daphne recruited Hiro for the new evil mission; Suresh got all evil and cocooned people; Mr. Petrelli, leader of the villains, was introduced.
As Suresh blathers on about people losing their way and kindred spirits teaming up we montage through: The hospital room from last week with Papa Petrelli; Peter lying in a coma; Mama P lying on a hospital bed; Parkman wheeling his turtle guide through the airport; Tracy and Nathan sharing a cab; Sylar sitting still in his cell; Suresh over his microscope in the lab surrounded by his cocoons.
We get a repeat of Hiro "killing" Ando with a sword. Except this week before he does it, he stops time, goes to a sword shop, grabs a sword and fake blood squibs. He flashes to a few hours earlier in the bar sticks the fake blood packets in Ando's shirt and tells him he's going to stab him later and to pretend he's dead. And then we flash back and we see him "stab" Ando. Ando pretends he's dead as instructed. Daphne and Knox buy it. Knox leaves to bring Adam to see Papa P. Daphne freaks that Hiro killed Ando. Hiro says he had to in order to prove he's a badass and that he's a villain like her now. She says she's just a thief and that no one gets hurt. Hiro claims he wants a payday too and demands to be taken to the boss. Instead she gives him an "assignment" to track down Parkman's "pre-cog" in Africa. She points out that it won't be easy since the pre-cog will see him coming. She leaves and Hiro alerts Ando, who sits up. Hiro says Ando now knows how it is to be killed by your best friend. They agree they're even and Ando compliments Hiro's form but wonders how they will catch a pre-cog. They should just go to County General since he checked in there last week, but instead Hiro puffs up and says with his powers the pre-cog is no match for him.
At the Bennet house Claire is in a tizzy wanting to save Meredith from the evil puppetmaster. Sandra understands but forces herself into "the mission." She points out that HRG always said "one of us, one of them." She will be the one of us.
At the puppetmaster Eric's house he says he's going to make her love him again. She protests she never loved him. He says even when he was on Level 5 he knew one day they'd be together again. She says to let her go or she'll kill him. He points out that he doesn't take orders from her since he pulls the strings. He illlustrates by making her pick up a wineglass, break it, and stick it in her own neck.
At Pinehearst in Fort Lee, New Jersey Adam is asking Knox what his power is. When he tells him about the fear strengthening, Adam says that's good since he's not afraid. Knox tosses him into Papa P's room. Adam says he thought Arthur was dead. Papa P starts working his mojo on him silently and Adam freaks out saying he could be of use to Arthur. Arthur grabs Adam's hand and he crumbles to dust. Arthur power is to steal peoples powers through physical contact. Without his regenerative power, Adam has suddenly "aged" his full 400 years. With his new healing/regen power, Arthur sits up, pulls out his tubes, looks much healthier and says it feels good to breathe again.
In JFK airport Daphne waits looking at a dossier on Parkman and Hiro. She tosses them and then Linderman tells her that's a mistake. She says they turned Hiro into a murderer and she's in over her head now and she tries to quit. Linderman says that would not be a good idea. Forcefully. Parkman arrives, Linderman disappears. Daddy Parkman watches from a pay phone. Parkman is asking the turtle for a sign to figure out how to find Daphne. And then he sees her. "High five, turtle!" She wonders how he knows who she is. He says lucky guess.
Tracy and Nathan arrive at Suresh's lab. Suresh mistakes her for Niki. Tracy explains the whole "Niki was my sister, evil Dr. Zimmerman blah, blah, blah." She demonstrates her freezing powers. Suresh is excited. She wants him to remove her power. He says they can be of assistance to each other.
Daphne and Parkman talk about Pinehearst, whose card she is holding. She says they know about him and his past and about how he wants to be something "more" but kind of half-heartedly. Parkman picks up on this and says it sounds like she's not buying her own pitch. She just says she has a lot of appointments and wants to know if he's in or out. (It's funny this whole recruiting business is totally like a pyramid scheme.) He stutters and says so this isn't about "us." She says it isn't. She wants to know how he knows her name. He says he had a dream about the future when they were married and happy with a baby and a pet turtle. He thinks the fact that she was waiting for him here must mean something. She thinks he's being stalky and speeds off just as he says they named their baby Daniella after her grandmother. She's sufficiently impressed to ask him to wait while she goes to do a bunch of stuff. She speeds off.
Suresh injects a "harmless" "marker" in Tracy. Nathan says he thought his gift was from God. Suresh says he thought he could follow his father's research but until he thought for himself he never got anywhere. He gives the injection to Nathan and says inside them now is a solution. But as he does it Tracy starts to look wobbly, saying something's wrong. Suresh steps back as she wobbles and falls around. Nathan starts to do the same asking what he's done to them. He stumbles through a black drape, collapses and sees the cocoons right before he blacks out.
Sylar looks out his cell window as Daphne speeds in to spring him from the cell. He refuses to go with her, wanting to know why they want him. Because he's a killer. He says he's not a killer anymore and he's not going anywhere. He pins her against the wall telekinetically. She says the man who wants him, knows him and wants him to stay just the way he is. She speeds up, puts the Pinehearst card in his hand so he knows how to find them and speeds off with a big bald prisoner from the next cell (Flint of the Blue Flame fame).
Peter flutters his eyelids in his coma. Sylar comes in rips out his tubes and tries to shake him awake asking for his help. Peter freaks and backs away and says now that he has the hunger like Sylar he can't control himself. Sylar says he doesn't want to be that anymore and he thinks he can control himself and if he can, Peter can too. Peter says when he saw him in the future he found a way to suppress it and wonders how. Sylar says he doesn't know but now has hope. Peter doesn't want his stinking hope he wants the hunger gone. Sylar says it's not about them, he woke him up because their mother is in trouble.
Hiro and Ando beam into "Somewhere in Africa." They see a Parkman painting on a rock and Hiro thinks he looks familiar. Ando says they all look the same to him. Hiro calls him a racist. Ando is unsure about kidnapping an innocent man. Hiro says they're just "borrowing" him and when the mission is done they'll bring him back. They split up to find the pre-cog. Hiro enters his hut and sees more paintings. Including one where the pre-cog is bashing Hiro on the head with a shovel and the paint is still wet. And, of course, Hiro turns around and the pre-cog bashes him in the head with a shovel.
Sandra and Claire are staking out Eric's place and Claire is worried Meredith is not answering her phone. Claire grabs her taser and tells Sandra to stay in the car. Sandra does not stay in the car, saying they need a plan. Inside Meredith and Eric dance. He overhears someone enter. Meredith swears she didn't tell anyone she was here. He closes her mouth. Eric comes across Sandra who claims she wants to book a puppetmaster for her son's birthday party. He says he doesn't do parties. She pulls out a wad of cash. He hands her a form to fill out. There's a clatter in the background somewhere and Sandra tries to run off and Eric pulls her back and asks who she is.
Claire shoves open a door and calls to Meredith who can't move. Eric comes in with Sandra. Claire says to let them go. He declines and forces her to fire her one shot taser harmlessly into a puppet. (Didn't his file say what his power was? Some plan.)
In Africa Hiro wakes up to a confused Ando. Hiro explains about the painting. Ando tells him to go back in time to one minute before he got hit. Hiro says he swore never to go back again. Ando says he did when he fake stabbed him, what could it hurt? And in the funniest graphic to date on this show Hiro squeezes his eyes shut and the title card reads "One Minute Before Hiro Got Hit." He hides behind a rock, watches himself walk in and then see another rock with a painting of him getting hit while hiding behind the rock. He gets hit, falls and just before he blacks out sees his future self get whacked.
Daphne checks up on Matt Parkman at the airport and then speeds off to Suresh's lab. Daphne explains that the Pinehearst peeps want him and his research. He doesn't know why he'd give that up to them. She doesn't either but knows that they've already figured out what it is he's trying to figure out, it would be mutually beneficial. They could all team up and save the world. She hands him the Pinehearst card to let him know how to find it and then hears a noise in the back room. She goes to investigate and finds the cocoons. She says he's just as bad as the rest of them.
"One Minute Before" Hiro wakes up. He walks in just as Ando convince "One Minute Later" Hiro to go back one minute. OMB Hiro says it didn't work and they need to do things the old-fashioned way and just hide.
Eric sets the three blondes up around a table with a gun with one bullet in it on a table. He says it's showtime. He makes Claire spin the gun. It lands pointing in the middle. He asks her who she's going to shoot. She says she can't. He asks what she's afraid of. Sandra tells him to stop it. Eric figures out that Sandra's her mother. He thinks Meredith is the "fun aunt." He makes her point the gun back and forth. Claire pleads and then Meredith promises she'll love Eric forever and ever. He doesn't believe her and makes Claire pull the trigger on Meredith. click. Then it's Sandra's turn. He makes her point the gun at Claire. Claire tells her mom that it's okay, "it's me," reminding her subtly about her power and to pull the trigger. Sandra pulls it several times and shoots Claire, who falls back. Eric thinks that was fun. Released from his grip Claire decks him from behind and says the show's over.
Peter and Sylar go to Mama P. Sylar says he found her like this, it's some kind of a coma. Peter is surprised that Sylar seems genuinely worried about her. Sylar says she was the only one who accepted him for who he is and he should've protected her. He tells Peter to look inside her head and find out what's wrong. Peter stands over the bed and tries to read her mind. He sees something in her eye and reels back. Sylar wonders what he saw. Peter draws it. It's that weird squiggle marker from season one. They've both seen it before. Sylar pulls out the Pinehearst card, that's their logo.
Eric lies on the floor. HRG shoots him with a tranquilizer gun. He's glad they called him. Meredith compliments Claire. Claire points out she got them caught. Meredith says she did a good job and that she may have gotten her genes from her but Claire got her heart from Sandra. HRG is impressed. Claire walks away from him without speaking. HRG says Claire has the wrong idea about him. Meredith argues it's just that Claire is a young woman now pulling away and she doesn't need them to protect her. He says there are still plenty of evil people out there and he could use some help. She thinks he means Claire but he means her. New buddy cops!
Sylar and Peter walk and talk purposefully. Sylar is trying to convince Peter not to go to Pinehearst and that he wants revenge for what they did to mom too. Peter yells at him to stop calling her that. Sylar says the power Peter took from him will control Peter and that he has to listen to him and that he wants to help him. Peter doesn't want his help and then they start fighting each other with their various superpowers. Sylar tries to reason with Peter who beats him up reveling in Sylar's new weakness and says he knows what it feels like to have power now and nyah-nyah's "I'm the one who's special." He lays Sylar back on the table he was lying on hooked up to the same kind of tubes. (But hopefully not the exact same tubes, because, ew).
Tracy lies strapped to a table in Suresh's lab and tries to reason with him, that she knows how he feels: out of control. She says Daphne offered a way out. Suresh moans that maybe he is a monster like Maya said. Tracy muses that they might all be and that she understands. She reaches out her hand. He takes it, and she freezes his arm, he reels back and hits a table with his head and collapses. Then she freezes her straps off and goes to untie Nathan. They go to walk away and Suresh throws a table at them saying he's not finished with them.
Daphne finally returns to Parkman (and the turtle, who's not hungry, either) at the airport, who was just about to leave. She says she's supposed to recruit him to Pinehearst but doesn't think he would fit in now that she sees all her recruits are actually bad people and he seems like a sweet guy. He says that's great. She says he needs to stay away from them. He says she does too because in the future Pinehearst gets her killed so she has to stay with him. She says she doesn't have a choice, she has to go back. He asks what her heart's telling her. She says to keep moving too fast to get caught. He wonders what they have over her and says that he can protect her. She says he can't and speeds off. Wow he waited all day for that?
Hiro and Ando try to sneak up on the pre-cog again. Hiro tries to make Ando go first into the hut. Ando declines. They see the shovel and grab it. They enter. Pre-cog man is warming his hand over a fire. He congratulates Hiro for using his head instead of his powers. Hiro realizes it was a test. Pre-cog says yes and now Hiro is ready. He shows them a future painting of the villains he seeks. It's four heads: Papa P, Knox on one side, and the other has two white guys one I'm not sure who it is (Peter? Sylar?) the other maybe the bald prisoner guy Daphne busted out? (Sorry if that's racist.) The Pinehearst logo runs between the faces. He says Hiro can take the pre-cog to them or Hiro can follow his own path. They notice the Pinehearst logo. Hiro sees a painting that looks like Peter hugging another man, whose face we can't see. (I'm guessing Papa P.)
Peter appears at Pinehearst, goes invisible, and walks in.
Daphne, Knox, Daddy Parkman, and the big bald dude - oh he's the mean fireball hands guy from the original Level 5 bust out (aka Flint) - come into Papa P's office. He calls them the villains and the bad guys just as Peter busts in hands at the ready to shoot electricity. The villains start for him but Papa P says it's okay since this is his son. Peter is flabbergasted to see his dad, who he thought was dead. Papa P says it's a long story and they need to talk. He tells Peter to come give him a hug, it's alright. They hug and he says he's sorry it had to come to this. Papa P hugs him hard, Peter yells, freaks out, and falls to the floor. Peter lifts a hand to work his magic but Papa P tells him that Peter doesn't have any powers anymore because Papa took them and he demonstrates by making little electrical currents with his hands.
To be continued....
