- The legendary Yoroi Bitsu is an armored chest that contains the weapons of the last Koga Ninja. Ninja's have been outlawed since the 1600's and the Yoroi Bitsu is the final resting place of their legendary weapons. Ninjas were also famous for brewing the deadliest poisons and had the power of life and death. Legend says that a Katana sword could take life but could also restore life in the hands of a true Ninja. A westerner named Casey (Scott Adkins), is studying Ninja judo in Japan. Due to his perseverance and desire to master Bushido, Casey earns the respect of his Sensei Takeda and his daughter Namiko. Namiko has a crush on Casey. Casey was abandoned by her mother as a child due to his drunk father. His drunk father was a marine stationed in Okinawa and had killed himself by driving off a cliff. A friend took Casey to the Sensei rather than giving him to an orphanage.
Sensei was about to announce his successor, & Casey along with local champ Masazuka (Tsuyoshi Ihara) were in fray. Masa wanted to be the master of the Dojo (also known as the Soke) and marry Namiko and as a local he believed it was his right. In a training fight, Casey & Masazuka are pitted against each other & Masa uses a real sword & tries to kill Casey in anger. Casey saves himself & In self-defense, Casey scars Masazuka below his right eye. Sensei Takeda (Togo Igawa) is livid & expels Masazuka from school. Masa begs Sensei to reverse his decision, but Sensei asks Masa to seek his own direction in life.
Years later, Masazuka becomes an assassin of an organization called "Temple Industries", which itself runs an underground cult known as "The Ring". He returns to his former Dojo and claims the succession as Soke, but Takeda turns him down.
Sensei decides to name a successor & Masa return to stake his claim & threatens the Yoroi Bitsu is his demand is not met. Sensei instructs Casey to take the Yoroi Bitsu to NYC to protect it from Masa. Casey stores it in the vault of the Triborough Uni with the help of Takeda's friend, Professor Garrison (Garrick Hagon). Sensei's daughter Namiko (Mika Hijii) has accompanied Casey.
Masa attacks the Dojo & kills everyone including the Sensei by deceit. Masa kills off all the lights & uses night vision goggles to defeat Takeda. Masa finds that Takeda was receiving calls from a US number of Professor Garrison.
Masa asks cult leader Temple (Miles Anderson) to attack Casey & retrieve the box. But Casey & Namiko survive but are pursued in the streets of NY by the members of the cult. Their instructions are to capture Namiko alive. Garrison is killed. Casey & Namiko fight off many goons and hide in a motel. They are eventually captured by police who think they are suspects as their passports were recovered in the Uni where Garrison taught.
Masa returns to the US & is very angry & kills the operating leader of the cult for failing to capture Namiko & recovering the box. Masa attacks the police station & captures Namiko. Casey tries to stop him but is too late & is defeated by Masa who is well armed. Casey saves Detective Traxler from being gunned down by Masazuka, who leaves with Namiko. After receiving a tip-off through a member of Temple's thugs (the owner of a cafe where Casey had breakfast and who ratted them out to the Temple's goons), Casey storms Temple Industries, retrieving Masazuka's phone number from the firm's president Temple. He calls Masazuka and sets up a meeting place to exchange the "Yoroi Bitsu" for Namiko's life. Casey then rushes to the university to retrieve the chest and don the ninja suit and the arsenal.
At a construction site, Masazuka releases Namiko once the "Yoroi Bitsu" is lowered from a crane, only to discover the chest empty. The two men prepare for a final showdown, but members of The Ring stage an ambush under Temple's orders to kill the trio. Together, Casey, Namiko and Masazuka beat the thugs. Masazuka uses a blowgun to shoot a poison dart at Namiko and taunts Casey with the antidote bottle. However, Masazuka drops the bottle, forcing Casey into a fit of rage.
As an NYPD helicopter flashes its spotlight on the fight, Masazuka uses a Ninjutsu technique to blind Casey with the reflections from his Katana and disappears in front of him. Casey uses his instincts to counter-attack and impales Masazuka from behind. Casey is saddened that he is unable to save Namiko. However, upon remembering his Sensei's teachings of a Ninja's Katana possessing the power to both kill and heal and discovers the antidote inside the handle of his Katana. Within seconds, the antidote neutralizes the poison as Namiko awakens. Before they leave, Casey decapitates Masazuka.
The next morning, Traxler (Todd Jensen) informs Casey and Namiko that Temple Industries has been arrested and The Ring has been smashed. He gives them their passports and tells them to leave New York City for good. The couple return to Japan to pay homage to their late Sensei and continue running their Dojo.
