By strange coincidence, when BBC Two re-ran a slightly edited version of this in 2021 (with the Robin Hood sequence removed), Eric's reference to Queen Elizabeth II spending Christmas at Windsor in 1971, also worked perfectly in 2021 as she again decided to spend Christmas in Windsor, this time due to the Covid pandemic.
When Eric says to André Previn that he "introduced Glenda Jackson to Tchaikovsky," he is making reference to the Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky biopic The Music Lovers (1971), which co-starred Jackson. This is a film Previn was aware of, having composed the original (i.e. non-Tchaikovsky) music for it.
Thanked by Ern, Lord Hill was the Chairman of the BBC Governors.
