“The O.C.” alum Mischa Barton guest starring on a reboot of long-running Australian soap opera “Neighbours” was probably not on anybody’s 2023 bingo card. The show was cancelled last spring, but — in a twist that could rival the soap’s melodramatic storylines — it was brought back from the dead by Amazon Freevee eight months later.
The reboot has given the show a new lease of life, and as well as welcoming back many of the old cast members it has also embraced some new ones – including Barton.
Ahead of the “Neighbours’” launch on Sept. 18, Barton sat down with Variety to discuss how she wound up joining the show, her next project and whether a reboot of “The O.C.” could also ever be in the cards.
How did you end up as a guest star on “Neighbours”?
Over the years they’ve asked me a couple of times and tried to get me for different roles.

Can it really be 20 years since “The O.C.” premiered on Fox? The young actors of the series, Benjamin McKenzie, Adam Brody, Mischa Barton and Rachel Bilson quickly became in-demand stars and the theme song “California” by Phantom Planet became a top ten hit in several countries while also reaching 35 on Billboard’s Alternative Airplay chart.
The bagel-centric series also introduced us to “Chrismukkah” and showcased bands from The Killers to Modest Mouse.
Several members of the cast went on to lead their own series and films and others have popped up on hit shows from “How I Met Your Mother” to “Grey’s Anatomy.” Here’s what they’ve been up to since “The O.C.” signed off in February 2007.

Benjamin McKenzie, who played O.C. newbie Ryan Atwood, went on to star as an LA cop on TNT’s “Southland” and as James Gordon on Fox’s Batman prequel series “Gotham.

Invitation to Murder is a mystery film directed by Stephen Shimek.
Does a story about England, an invitation, different characters and a murder to be solved sound familiar? They’re called whodonit, and the greatest exponent of the genre was the ever-great Agatha Christie.
Here’s a charming film that captures the essence, step by step, without the minimum intent of originality.
Delightful in its evocation of English traditionalism.
And in its consequent repetition, too.
Movie Review
Curiously enough, this is actually a French production in which everything takes us to England, to those stories that, although already a bit worn out by repetition, continue to captivate. A good mystery for a film that, without a doubt, we have already seen.
There is nothing original in a film that is a tribute to the English writer and, in the end, little more than a rather televised episode that may entertain...

Los Angeles, April 18 (Ians) Actress Mischa Barton is joining the new season of the iconic Australian soap
‘Neighbours’.
Barton will guest star in the role of Reece, an American new to Erinsborough who’s not quite who she appears to be, reports ‘Deadline’.
Freevee rescued the series following its cancellation in 2021. The daily series had bowed out on Network 10 in Australia and long-time British home Channel 5 after 37 years, after the Paramount-owned UK network pulled its funding from the show.
Original series cast Stefan Dennis, Alan Fletcher, Ryan Moloney and Jackie Woodburne are reprising their roles in the new chapter.
‘Neighbours’ ran for nearly 9,000 episodes, and became a cult hit in the UK, where it initially aired on the BBC before switching to Channel 5, since its launch in 1985. The show acted as the launchpad for several global stars, including singer Minogue, Memento and L.A.

"You gotta get down into the muck if you wanna find the truth." Lionsgate has revealed the official trailer for another whodunit murder mystery movie called Invitation to a Murder, which is skipping theaters entirely and is debuting on VOD directly in April this spring. Once you get a look at this, you'll understand exactly why. This is some low rent cheap junk, and the cast is especially mediocre, too. Set in the South of England in 1934. For no apparent reason and also like five other unrelated people, Miranda, a 28-year-old florist, is invited for the weekend in the mansion of billionaire Lewis Findley. What's become of their absent host? And who just murdered one of the guests in cold blood? Of course, there's only one way to find out – pay the money to rent and watch this movie. It stars Mischa Barton, Chris Browning, Seamus Dever, Giles Matthey, Grace Lynn Kung,...

The trailer just dropped for Invitation to a Murder and it looks sprightly and, dare I say it, fun. Set in the 1930s, the murder mystery stars Mischa Barton, who, we must remember, was born in London long before she became a teen star on U.S. television (The O.C.). She plays Miranda Green, who is summoned to a remote mansion belonging to a mysterious billionaire, which begs the question, did they have those in the 1930s? Not many, I wager. Surrounded by five strangers, murder most foul occurs, and Miranda must put on her amateur detective hat to solve the case and avoid being killed herself. Chris Browning, Seamus Dever and Bianca Santos also star. Invitation to a Murder will be available April 25 on...

Looking back from the 21st century, it's hard to see Humphrey Bogart as anything less than a skilled, accomplished actor. With such a wide body of influential work, it's no surprise that Bogart has made a lasting impact and inspired the next generation of actors. But things didn't always look so good for the suave actor, especially when he was just starting out.
Despite the myriad of successes that Bogart would later experience on the big screen, the actor got his start on Broadway, working on plays like "Meet the Wife" and "Invitation to a Murder." Though he worked on a few films during this time, the majority of Bogart's early success came from stage work. However, the sudden onset of heavy debts would soon put the actor under considerable stress, significantly jeopardizing his career.
Bogart's father, Belmont Bogart, passed away in 1934, a very difficult situation under any circumstances. Unfortunately,...
