This One's For Alice!
lavatch11 September 2020
Warning: Spoilers
In the words of Julius Caesar, "Alea lacta est" (the die is cast)! In this episode, Em makes the fateful decision to play ball with the nefarious villain Dawkins in order to free her ex-husband Nick. In other words: the plot thickens!!!

It seems as if nearly all of the FBI agents are either bad cops or totally incompetent when they completely botch the scene at the mall where Em met with Dawkins. Cal either betrays Em's trust by inviting the other agents along or he intentionally allows Dawkins to escape. Crown is hopeless as well. During her meeting with Dawkins, Em realizes that someone from the FBI was feeding her old Quantico file to him. From the audience's perspective, it could be any of the FBI personnel. But to Em, the inferences point to Gunnarsen.

The best scene in the episode is where Em confronts Gunnarsen about the death of Alice. Clearly, Em believes Gunnarsen has gone rogue with Dawkins and Nick is being used as a pawn to retrieve the secret files. Suddenly and unexpectedly, Em lets loose with a roundhouse right and clocks Gunnarsen on the left side of the jaw! That one was for you, Alice!!!

After Em submits her resignation, Gunnarsen has a secret rendezvous with her female "friend" at a restaurant. The friend utters the biggest understatement of the episode when she remarks that Gunnarsen is a careerist. Sadly, the sweet little Kai dies from her fall, but not before handing off to Em the secret file in the form of the computer chip on her rosary. Em visits Smiley at the arcade to have the chip copied to look authentic.

When Em learns that Dawkins is in pursuit of Flynn, she asks her father to take the boy to safety out of state and keep him in hiding. Cal and Em visit a large warehouse where Dawkins may have done business. They picked up the name of the site from a file on Nick's computer. From the accounting office of the warehouse, they learn that a shipment went out to Berlin under the name of "Jericho." Was Nick outbound on that flight?

The spiritual writer Vernon Howard is quoted in the episode in discourse about "lightness" and "darkness." Is Em going over to the dark side by meeting with Dawkins? Will she be able to fool him with the fake chip? The episode closes with Em driving away with Dawkins in a limousine and her words, "Let's go to Jericho."
