Disappointing and boring.

Waste of time. The accent is on the artistics, while the viewer is lost and can not follow the the story. If you don't read the original text of the story, you can not follow the dialogues, not the movie.

Pretentious waste of time
ctpahho1 December 2021
Since the beginning of the movie the observer gets lost in the poor acting and screenplay. Hundreds of little but important things combine together to bring complete nonsense despite the inevitable attempts of the mind to find out what kind of movie is this.

You wont find anything historically correct other than the village scenery, buildings, forests and mountains. Just because they are not made up and actually still exist.

The way story is being told is again very poor attempt to be arty.

Without getting into any details, this movie is nowhere close to the original Yordan Yovkov story.

Its almost unwatchable and requires deliberate willing to finish.

The overall feeling is as if some amateur actors used professional equipment.

Unfortunately - unsuccessfully.

Complete waste of time and money

This is one of the movies that made me stop my Netflix subscription!

Terrible in any possible way - Script, dialogues, acting, sound, directing... More efforts should go to improve the quality instead of making this non-sense campaign (non-sense after watching or trying to watch the movie).

The package is good looking, but the ingridients...not.

Fine art

Beautiful story, talented actors and captivating performances. True and amazingly sensitive movie. Gentle, yet strong expression of classical values. Extremely sophisticated presentation of Jovkov. Thank you for creating true art!

Warning: Spoilers
As I see, the writer/director was 19 years old when he created this so called film. This means that apparently he managed to graduate from art school at 18 which leaves me wondering if he started studying there at the tender age of 13 or 14. Anyway, this wunderkind did not bother sticking at least to 1% of any accuracy in terms of original script(Yovkov's short story) or history.

Basically, I could not watch beyond the first 5 minutes or so.

According to the above child prodigy, it was typical for Ottomans to wear a crucifix - multiculturalism at its best, hey it existed in the 19th century already.

Then again, Bulgarian women would of course harvest the crops in nothing more than a.sexy nightgown and without any headscarfs. In addition, they would go there without any men to guard them - despite the omnipresent robbers... Also, they would speak to each other in a distinctive 21st century language ("Rada, pass me the water please" - the so called vocative case considered obsolete by some people nowadays was apparently already abandoned in the 19th century too - despite all the evidence proving the opposite...)

Total nonsense. All the accolades must be coming from NGOs or organizations sponsored by such.

Strong and relevant nowadays

Thank you so much for the beautiful movie. It is not only the original story of Yovkov, which is magical and beyond words, but the interpretation of it, which makes me happy indeed. Maybe the fact that the director himself is very young /19 yrs in fact/, makes me even more proud. It is sheer wonder how the actors are a hundred per cent as if from my own imagination. I mean that if I had to choose them I would choose the same brilliant actors in view of sheer outer appearance and talent, of course. Shibil is outstanding and Rada too. So are the other characters. Not to mention the brilliant aesthetics of the movie: the visuals and the music and the costumes.

It can certainly be called a modern classic, strong and beautiful.

Interesting new movie and a beautiful love story
bruce_w_5 January 2022
I found this film quite the fresh breath of air in the movie scenery these days.

What really appeals to me is the strong but at the same time tender love story between the main characters. It is so rare to see something like that in times when everything is in favor of the mighty consumer. Love is false, pace is fast and emotions are being neglected.

Having that in mind, I really connected with the movie and the fates of the characters.

For me it is a little bit long, but the scenes are beautiful and the music is very powerful.

Overall I enjoyed sitting through the movie and find it rather interesting to watch, if you have some spare time.

One should believe his eyes and judgments...

The film language is not for everybody (meaning, it's good to be a profound spectator) - dialogue in rimes, stylized costumes, overwhelming vision, the music is created by a talented young Bulgarian composer, a story told by the most unexpected 'narrator'... Of course, this is most likely to divide viewers, however it touches the very human instincts and I highly recommend to see it!

A fine European cinema
ramsey-0310 January 2022
Being overwhelmed with all the standard love stories, it is really refreshing to bump into such a different and vibrant movie.

The visual storytelling goes really well with the emotions of the characters, which are supported by great film music. The direction of photography is quite outstanding!

People need more beauty, peace and true love in their lives. These are the strong sides of the film that I found in it.
