The problems and fragility of a small family
fortmyers-1 May 2022
The Ugly Truth deals with the problems and fragility of a small family that has to deal with the consequences of an unexpected visit. The cast features popular faces of German cinema, Lillie Liefers and Emma Schweiger. Unfortunately the movie was somehow a disappointment because it doesn't have great production values or a story that stays with you. It is still noteworthy for the budget it was made with and it is still a nice addition to a festival that attracts international filmmakers and gives space to a variety of genres.

German Soap Opera

Theo lives with his second wife who has inherited a spectacular house with a big swimming pool. His teenage daughter lives with them.

A stunning nineteen-year-old woman arrives and Theo is thunderstruck by the young lady. She has just broken up with her boyfriend and needs emotional support from the troubled family. Theo's wife is a pill popping alcholic who is the financial support of her freeloading husband.

Through a series of events, Theo grows more and more attached to his beautiful houseguest while his wife snores loudly and continues to pass out from too much booze and pills.

The cast is excellent but by the end of the film I was exhausted by all the melodrama.

Do not expect a happily ever after story brought to you by Dianey Studios.

I can't believe that is a German movie

I watched that movie today on Amazon Prime with my daughter. The storyline is very daring for a german movie and very well acted. It balances the romatic desires, the alcoholic drama and where it can get you and also what surprised me the most was the storyline with the kids. The writers should think about a Comedy. I was really hooked right from the beginning till the end. I think the storyline you just watch the Trailer its just very complex to describe it in a few words. And the set design. Wow. Never seen that in such a way I read somewhere it was independent but it looks more expensive than other movies. Highly recommended.
