Should Have Been Amazing
noahbmayfield2 January 2021
As a massive fan of the first series, "The Masked Singer", you could understand how excited I was for the spinoff.

What makes the first series so entertaining is the talent that the preformers have, and the other excitement viewers feel as the figure out which celebrities have a hidden talent for music. The problem with The Masked Dancer, however, is that the preformers are not talented dancers. I assumed that this show would feature celebrities with a hidden talent of dancing, but that simply isn't the case.

This show would have been incredible if the contestants knew how to dance. Very disappointed.

Camera change, camera change
handr_circle17 January 2021
They change the camera view every second (and that's not hyperbole). They leave the camera angle for a maximum of 3 seconds. The editing room has full adhd.

Only watch if you're desperate
jaredd4 January 2021
First off, I think Craig Robinson is a poor choice as host. His voice tone and energy is just not right for this job.

Next, I was partially OK with the Masking Singer using a fake audience to keep things consistent, but The Masked Dancer is completely new! There is no valid audience footage that you can use! FAKERS!

Then, what in the world, KEN is here too?? Sure, he's only on screen to make fun of, but his act is festering at this point. The rest of the panel is ugh too.

Lastly, the actual dancing was pretty bad, as others have mentioned. A bunch of "dance moves" doesn't equal "dancing".

Anyway, I am pretty confident this show will be cancelled after this season airs. It's too bad because there is actual potential here. It just seems that quite a bit of the decision making was phoned in, no pun intended. Specifically, too much "party" vibe, not enough "pro" vibe.

How are these shows still alive
paulstein1331 December 2020
How is it at all fun to watch? A whole season of guessing celebrities, out of hundreds of thousands of possibilities. This is worse than karaoke. I'd rather watch the masked grocery shoppers... maybe that'll be the next Masked installment.

Don't waste your time. Don't let them dumb down America worse than it is. The dancing is terrible. They use a fake audience which makes it really phoney and boring.

Not as bad as the reviews
LigeiaCorpse1 January 2021
This is exactly what you expect it to be, famous people dancing in a costume and you have to guess who they are. If you thought any different then I really don't know what to say for you. Yes the audience is fake, that's because of this thing called covid-19, maybe you heard of it... It's not as good as the masked singer however I still find it fun to guess who they are. It's entertainment, not a class in school so if a tv show "dumbs you down" chances are you were already dumb just saying lol So if you just want to be entertained and play a guess who is it game then you will enjoy this, just probably not as much as masked singer,

I made it through 1-1/2 dancers. Credit for trying to come up with a Masked Singer spin-off, but this definitely wasn't it.

Fun different kind of game show that mixes new and old concepts.
blanbrn28 January 2021
"FOX" has once again came up with a different and fun game show involving regular people and it mixes with famous people with famous host. "The Masked Dancer" involves music being played in front of judges and the dancer is masked up with the contestant having to guess who is the famous person behind the mask with clues like phrases and body moves. Overall not the greatest still a fun watch plus it's a treat to see the beautiful Paula Abdul hosting.

What did I just watch???

Just finished watching the first episode: this show is so painfully bad, these people could barely move let alone dance. At least with their sister show the Masked Singer some people could actually sing

Family enjoyed
Cjbcjs28 June 2021
My family enjoyed this. My daughter is a dancer so we watch many dance style shows. This one was fun because of the clues and then watching what they can do in the costumes. We guess a few correctly which makes it more fun. It's just like any other celebrity show. Some are bad, but try, and some are natural or trained. Of course the athletes goes further in dance competitions.

Has its flaws..but still entertaining!

Warning: Spoilers
Me and my mom watched this show and it definitely lifted our spirits. I love dance and she loves it as well, so a new dance show was an amazing option for us.

You see, at first I thought this show would be as bad as the masked singer. It really was not. It's fun, entertaining, and a great family show. Finding out who won was the best part of it, because the climax to it was more entertaining.

Our (me and my mom's) favorite part of this show was Mackenzie Ziegler. Tulip was our favorite considering we both are currently watching 'Dance Moms'. She was amazing. Do not get me wrong, all of them have skill. They danced so well it was just mind blowing.

The show was a bit corny though. It wasn't as drama like and entertaining in that way. It sure as hay didn't attract too many people. Really it could be improved on more, but I'm not complaining. This is the first time in YEARS that FOX has made an exceptional TV show.

So in all, FOX did add some effort into this. Don't trust the haters on this show because they're more than likely wrong. You should watch it and give it a try.

Extremely disappointing... I am not a fan!
oteshiahicks3 January 2021
I know this was only the first episode but I dont see any promises of improvement. The Masked Dancer is unlike the Mask Singer, which is incredible, amusing and beyond entertaining. The concept of Masked Dancer was not executed properly and this show fell short of my expectations. It was painful to complete the first episode. Lack of energy from everyone, judges have no type of chemistry among each other and to top it off the contestants dont have any true dancing skills or talent. Complete disaster.

Sad

Wow! What a sad show. This could have been compelling but what a train wreck. Yes, I watched the entire premiere. I won't be watching it again.

There is no dancing. It has worse shuffling side to side than an Eighth Grade Sadie Hawkins's Dance! Avoid at all costs.

Call it the masked waddler, why don't ya...
sammyplankton31 December 2020
These people can barely move in their costumes. There's much better dancing on the masked singer. Giving 2 stars instead of 1 because Craig Robinson is a better host than Nicks Cannon and I like the "women in black."

Entertaining Enough
bangel33224 February 2021
I'm a massive fan of The Masked Singer. So I was very excited for this show. One thing I'm not keen on is Ashley Tisdale on the panel. She is so out of place there. Also it's a bit cringe to have celebrities on there who have absolutely no rhythm at all. It just makes them look really foolish. But for the people who can dance, it's very entertaining

Should have used a test audience
Baxxie228 January 2021
I was looking forward to this, since I love The Masked Singer so much. Didn't know how they would pull it off, because how do you guess a celebrity from dancing? And I like Ken in the panel. And I like the other judges, so I thought it would be fun!

But it's not. The dancing is very awkward and takes too long. It's as if everyone just learned a few dance moves in 5 minutes before they went on. There is no way to guess who they are except the clues. So why even show the dancing? I have cringed watching any of them.

And on top of that, Ken is the only one good in this show. The host seems he does not want to be there, doesn't know how to act. He barely interacts with the celebs or with the judges, which is partially what makes Masked Singer so much fun. All the judges make fun of each other, together. There is full chemistry. But on Masked Dancer, it's as if Ken keeps trying to show them what to do. But he's the only one that belongs there. The others it seems like they were the only ones available and he is trying with all his might to create chemistry and fun. But it doesn't work. He's the strongest personality there. While on Masked Singer, they're all strong personalities, including Nick. They can all own a room and a stage. And they bounce off each other. On this how? Again, awkward to watch.

And I know they are always overdramatic with their "this was amazing, best performance ever!". But on this show it feels even more fake than any other.

Please cancel it. I feel bad for the celebs that were on this, because so far I know them all (on Singer it's often a case of "who??") and feel awful they were even invited on this show.

Truly someone should have had a test audience first. They could have axed it before even airing.

There is no way to recreate Masked Singer. It's just not possible. I'd love a spin-off that attracts even bigger celebs. But there is no option that wouldn't turn out just as bad as this.

Come up with new things. Please and thank you.

A Really Dumb Idea
llsmith-8718210 January 2021
Being able to recognize someone by their dancing even if the person is a famous dancer is virtually impossible and most definitely not entertaining. Craig Robinson is terrible and except for Paula Abdul the judges are weak. Don't waste your time.

Pretty fun
water_bug215 March 2021
I enjoy watching dancing and the hidden identity aspect is fun. The Masked Singer is a good concept, but the judges are so obnoxious, I spent most is the time fast forwarding through their stupid banter and bad jokes and eventually it wasn't worth the effort. The Masked Dancer doesn't have that problem, and it's much more of a challenge to try to identify someone by the way they dance than by the way they sing. Looking forward to a second season.

Boring as heck.
The dancing is mostly bad, as another user said, the dancers can't dance in their costumes. You can't see their moves without the costume being in the way making the dancing look boring.

The host makes jokes, some funny, some not. But he has no energy whatsoever. They should have had Nick Canon host, cause he makes most shows he host energizing for the viewers. This host, however was chosen instead and he sucks the energy of the show dry leaving a boring husk of what it could be.

Ken is the only good judge because he is funny. Without him this show would have been a 0 or lower. However, I like the dynamics between Nick Canon and Ken in The Masked Singer, that Ken, without Nick, isn't as funny. He, alone, couldn't save this show from being boring.

Shows are meant to be entertaining not boring; they need to see the criticism and make the show better hopefully by the next season

Worst thing on TV
rmmil18 February 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Beyond terrible tv.

How is this a "competition"? You have Bill Nye performing in a dance contest that also featured Maksim Chmerkovskiy. It'd be like if you had a singing competition between Lady Gaga and me. I'm not winning and neither would Bill Nye.

I'm guessing they just booked anyone their casting agency could get, because the people involved are laughably random.

Oh, and please stop giving Ken Jeong tv gigs. He's not funny, witty, or anything else positive. He's a "real life" doctor who happened to have Judd Apatow as his patient once upon a time. That's why he's famous, not because he actually has talent.

Yikes! One of the most fake and unnatural shows on TV!
rogerdob7 January 2021
With so much fake audience and judge enthusiasm, this show becomes 100% annoying...there is not one real audience anywhere in the world that would get so excited over nothing like this audience does. The director of the show, would rather keep rapidly cutting from shot to shot, rather than do true directing and letting us watch the show more naturally. And the host is TERRIBLE...it is so obvious that he is reading the lines...he shows no real involvement to the activities going on...and somebody on the show should show him how to properly hold the microphone!
