Good start, shame about the rest
matteodeiu13 November 2020
The first three episodes are the only good thing of this reboot, they show how a Digimon series should be. The rest is a original series bad copy, too slow and not interesting. Digimon fans have grown up, the series age target should not remain 10 yo.

Nice Reboot
elhamfirmino5 June 2021
The start of the season was very promising and made me addicted to the anime. I grew up with the OG season and had high expectations. For today's graphics and technology ( smartphone, online possibilities and so on ) it fits perfectly.

Also I have to admit the other characters around Taichi have way more character depth than in the original series.

The animations and battle scenes are much better here than in the OG series.

There are a few nice additions for some evolutions and also new evolutions.

The plot is the main problem for me at one point it totally lose its magical touch and pace. I felt like forced to watch the series to the end. My favorite arc remains when Devimon finally shows off and encounters the group. Afterwards it's getting stretched and feels like kinda filler episodes.

It's not a bad reboot. They did a great job and made it different. If it was the same as the original series people would moan about that too.

I think it's safe to say for new generations, new crowd it's a great show. I can recommend it to them. For nostalgic people like me, we will find many differences and similarities. Although I liked the start of the season and how they introduced each character it lacks at some point for me.

I still give it a 7 rating, because it was nothing terribly bad for the show. There is even space for another season.

Nowhere near the original
ForceofSU1 June 2023
I am one of those who hoped this reboot will have the feel that it had almost 25 years ago. It is nowhere near it. But i gave it seven stars because i don't want to take part in drowning it, we have to be aware of the fact that it is meant for children under the age of 14. Still, it is stripped of the deep meaning the original had. Now evolution just happens. In fact there were two in the first episode, and it doesn't feel deserved. But oh well, life is fast paced now, i guess they adapted the story. But in my opinion, they lost that unique feeling it separated it from competitors, like "Pokemon". Now it's just another cartoon, that in my opinion won't be unique in children's eyes.

These reviewers have no clue what they're talking about

This is a reboot. It stands on its own. To compare it to the original adventure is a farce. All these franchises cater to you people's nostalgia and when they try to step out from that mold y'all complain. You complain if they don't innovate and then u complain if they innovate too much? This show should be judge on its own merits and for that I rate it a 9, I'll admit it's not perfect. The pacing, the art and themes that are explored are all on point. This is a great entry for new viewers and contains homages to the original. Stop giving it a low review cus u want more of the 90s nostalgia, u ppl are clowns.

An amazing and fresh start to the series!
christian_filho8 April 2020
Digimon Adventure is an amazing anime! Unfortunately, it didn't make the success it should have, in my opinion, this occurred especially because the characters we love were abandoned in season 2. This reboot creates a WHOLE NEW STORY introducing old concepts and works even better. I loved the fact the evolution is something more natural and happens simultaneously to the battle. It was very annoying to lose four minutes of anime watching the same evolution over and over again in the old version.

I am very excited to follow this new adventure because Digimon deserves it. I hope we get a great game reboot as well!!

I kept watching cause I truly love digimon but...
ezeam-8010926 September 2021
You know, when you like the franchise, you enjoy watching some new digimons animated and some mechanics being used like digimon geting more than one evolution line. This shows explore some old things like experimenting with them but wih no too much more planning than nostalgia or fanservice (in a non sexual way). Bad news is that it uses "Adventure" name with that goal and I know is a reboot and it should be distant but one thing is being different and another one is to be somehing completely far from the original, wich is not bad at all if you call it wih another name so you have nothing to compare with. Besides that, as an individual product, music's okay, it has big argumental issues and they could have put more love in animation and character development, It lacks of spirit and cliffhangers are really poor. There are some rescueable chapters with its own plot wich work apart from the main story wich are only disturbed by a main character that needs atention all the time. If you want to see forgotten digimons animated, some pokemon-like chapters wich only work without the main story, and some forgotten evolution mechanics used again, watch it, but with no more expectations than that..

Loved It !
ahmedy-385055 April 2020
I really loved the start, I've actually enjoyed the action too as I reacted with it, I felt happy when I saw the original design again. I really can't wait for the next episode.

Not as great as the original.
alan-5067319 September 2020
The original Digimon series started with seven kids who knew each other from summer camp. They had a past event in common to unite them. They had the time to explore the Digital World without constantly being attacked and rushed through digivolutions. They learned and grew over time like real people. New digivolutions mattered more since they didn't come as quickly. You had the time to know the children and Digimon. There were good to evil Digimon everywhere instead of just good or evil Digimon. This new show recycles and rushes through everything while doing it worse.

What a great start!
robertsonduncan5 April 2020
The animation is brilliant and the character redesigns are not too over the top so as to not lose their original charm. The score really elevated the action and I really cannot wait for more.

Heartless effort
Naive-fox29 June 2021
After watching more of the series, my initial fears got confirmed. Digimon was always a shounen, albeit a very character driven one. And here we have the 2020 reboot, taking the sooner to extreme limits and the latter totally out of the product. 'Digimon adventure 2020' (code named 'Digimon Adventure Psi') can be just summed up as a collection of battle episodes with an exhaustingly repetitive script. Threat arises (causing planet extinction risk from day one), absurd battle with no coherence at all ensues, deus ex machina victory happens (usually due to unexplained phenomena or the characters shouting out very loud), threat that was over reappears in a more threatening way to have an excuse for another episode. The characters that drove the story in the original run and were likeable, relatable persons with emotions and strong bond between them are plain robots with the mere function of riding their Digimons, remember us how unexplainable everything happening around them is and shouting their Digimons' (and occasionally other character's names) an average of five times per minute. Or that is the case at least for the two "main" characters of the story, the rest of the kids have been cut back to a lesser role than an extra would have in any other show.

Animation wise the new re-imagining of 1999's franchise originating title edges the original, feeling very pleasing visually during some episodes (even if the sloppiness of the sequences they had no interest on investing time on, like some digievolution sequences for "lesser" Digimons, is almost insulting) and keeping in the vibrant colour palette of its predecessor that makes it so attractive for younger kids. The soundtrack, although not in the level of the masterful score of the first 'Digimon adventure', is still pretty good and definitely up to the standards of the franchise. Little matters any of it as the script makes it an unbearable ride for anyone looking for a bit of emotion or warmth in it, or at least a coherent, thrilling story. 'Digimon adventure 2020' is, at best, a mediocre shounen enjoyable by the youngest of the family, but it's in no way an entertaining watch for a newcomer to the franchise, and it is like salt in the recent 'Digimon Tri' wound to all of us who grew up with the original and expected a tweaked, improved storyline with the humanity and emotion that glued us to the screen twenty years ago intact.

Mega Flame!
drahmadbakri7 April 2020
Forget what the other critic said, this start is epic! I think the concept of this series is to be different, to be something out of the classic, to stay out of framework, yet still delivers us the childhood that we miss. The moment of courage, the moment of teamwork, and the climax of battle!

Don't listen to the other critic that compared this to the original, because it was not! Those very points that they said was tbh the exact things that sank the anniversary project. This is the 2020 series; by wishing it to totally copy the original one is totally horrific.

It's Just Good
fafilyndell19 September 2021
People are acting as if it's so bad that it should be kept in the basement but why. Did you want an appli monster season 3 or something or just the exact same thing as 1998 version maybe even a show where they spend 10 episodes on each characters like why 1998 version was better but when I see people saying it sucks or terrible is it because it's new or you have opinions that can't be argued you can have your own opinion but still just stop watching it please if you hate it let it die if you want it to. Go check out based digimon if you want to see why it's better than just random asspulls.

If you've come for some nostalgia, you're NOT in luck
eueu_ueue19 October 2020
One of the best things about the original adventure is how we're thrown into this world no one knows what is going on and we get to learn as we go, together with these kids that have to learn more about themselves and how to deal with their emotions.

This new one has very little to do with that. They tried to "complicate" it too much in this one and expand the digiverse so they could make more episodes (I assume), but intead it just came out super cheeky and boring. Overall it became about this over the top (and with a pacing that apparently was done by a 3-year-old) story about an ancient good vs evil story that couldn't be more cliche.

The only good thing about it is that it couldn't be more distant from the original story, the themes discussed in it and its overall context. So it doesn't ruin the original in the slightest.

It started well, but...
guilhermerpedrollo29 August 2021
This is a loosely remake from the original series. It started well with new digimon, an interesting main story and entertaining side stories. However, it has a great directing problem. The story focus way too much on the protagonist Taichi leaving all others with no important roles, specially in the second half of the series. It seems like the others are there just because they were there in the original. Taichi bizzarrely teleports with no explanation to the others locations to secure he will appear in very episode. Yamato who was a protagonist in the original series, now there is only 2-3 episodes where he is important out of 66. Sora is another character who is treated very bad. Sometimes the plot seems aimless, with bad time allocation.

A great anime for the little ones
LuisPunisher22 June 2021
I perfectly understand how some fans disliked this reboot. Like for many, Digimon was part of my childhood, but we should recognize where the demographic target is aimed when reviewing media. This is a show for kids, i won't even say it's shonen, i would say it's for kids that are 12 or younger.

And as a kid's show it's great! I feel no shame in admiting that i liked it. Firstly, yes the evolutions feel rushed early on the show, but pretty much every episode has been really fun to watch. I rate stuff considering how much entertainment i get, and this anime has been a blast.

An advice in order to enjoy the show is not to compare it to the original, and expect nothing else but healthy and family friendly entertainment.

Best series in years
taikamiya21 November 2021
Honestly, this is probably the best series we had in years. People hate on as it doesn't follow the original story but actually, it's own. I really think people don't really understand what a reboot is compared to what an remake is.

The show overall had most likely the best animation we have ever had when it comes to a Digimon series. The evolution scenes I think were one of the best.

I think the show overall has done a lot of good for the brand seeing how the last couple of series haven't done so well

I think it is nice to see them try to reboot the original show but of course you will always get people not liking it because they wanted ABC but actually we got XYZ instead. It has made me wonder if we will get a sequel to the reboot in 2022.

1999 version is better
mrgameoflife29 April 2020
In my opinion the story of the 2020 version of Digimon is too heavy for children, cyber crime etc. 1999 version of digimon is better, the story is light for children, character recognition and digimon, is better the old one, and the first time evolution of digimon, more epic the old one, more emotional. in the 2020 version the koishiro laptop is also sophisticated using modern laptops that can be folded into tablets but the animation on the laptop is still pixel art like the old laptops, that's so ridiculous. the backsound music is also better the old one, more uplifting. This remake as if carelessly made, many factors are overlooked, just rely on the popularity of digimon. is like a netflix version of digimon.

Totally missing the charm and quality of the original.
finky32526 October 2023
I watched the original when it was first airing. It was a great mix of character development, serialized storytelling and strong villains. Truly original for the time. This new reboot has none of that charm, it meanders and drags out stories. All the character development is gone, the characters spend less than half of the series together and don't grow as a team the same way we loved in the original.

I know I am solely basing this rating off of how this compares to the original, maybe that isn't fair but IMO if you're going to reboot something it should end up better than the original This isn't even close.

Dub the anime already, but don't let Funimation, Sentai Filmworks or any Canadian dubbing studios near this series..
nathanielcorreia6 March 2021
After Hasbro folded Allspark into eOne likely scenario is that they'll have canadians voice the characters or Funimation and Sentai Filmworks to dub it, if it was the case there would major backlash and bad feed back from all Digimon fans.
