Did not win me over (partially maybe for subjective reasons)

Warning: Spoilers
In the title "Megan Thee Stallion & Normani: Diamonds" you can read the names of the two performers from this music video. I must admit I am not familiar with either of the two, but I am always open to new things, so I still decided to check it out. What also got me curious was that this is closely linked to the new Harley Quinn movie "Birds of Prey" starring Oscar nominee Margot Robbie. She has definitely grown on me in recent years and I am much more fond of her no than after her early career turn on Scorsese's "The Wolf of Wall Street". But let's not move too far away from this one here. It was released in January 2020, so it is still not 3 months old and nonetheless it managed to score millions and millions of views already, which certainly also has to do at least partially with the film reference I just talked about. The music is not too great. i said int he title of my review that I did not like it a lot for personal reasons and this mostly reers to the fact that hip-hop is one of my least favorite music genres and after the rap part early on I was even tempted to take away another two stars. But the actual singing from the other girl mentioned in the title here stepped things up, so I would not call it a failure, but just rather weak all in all. The visual side is very hypnotic at times and a relatively accurate depiction of what things could look like if we visualize Harley's brain. Nonetheless all this was not enough for a positive recommendation. Not much hesitation here for me to decide if and how much I liked it. It's a negative recommendation for me. Go skip the watch and I am personally glad this only ran for 200 seconds, even for a music video fairly short, as it did not get me particularly curious about "Birds of Prey" or the long title "Birds of Prey: And the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn". In my opinion it forgot to actually deliver quality and substance while focusing ay too much on getting in as much girl power as possible. Skip.

Warning: Spoilers
When you think of a perfect music video for a song that happens to be the subject of an extremely awaited film and starring Margo Robbie, you quickly create a great expectation that the music will be good. "Diamonds" is a great video and extremely faithful to the Harlequin vibe and that the film brings, Megan thee Stallion & Normani are perfect. In my opinion the best part is when Normani dresses up as Marilyn Monroe.
