Sex & Nudity

  • One man tells another character to get himself checked "for the clap".

Violence & Gore

  • Man is shot in head. Very quick. Blood spatter on wall behind him. His dead body is seen a few times in a pool of blood. Happens very quickly. Can be startling as it cuts right away. Very brief.
  • Man is beaten by another man. Victim's face is bloody after.
  • There's a shootout in a restaurant. Several people are shot but there's no blood.
  • Shown from a distance: a man pistol whipping another man asking him who hired him before threatening to shoot him.
  • After taking a beating, a man is shoved into the trunk of a car.
  • A man thinks his wife is cheating on him and he confronts her. It's implied that he hits her but it's not seen. All we see is a brief argument then her running off to another room while he runs after her. It then immediately cuts to the next scene.

Profanity

  • 50 f bombs
  • About 12 misuses of God's name and about 3 misuses of Jesus's name throughout the film

Alcohol, Drugs & Smoking

  • Takes place in 1954 so there's lots of casual cigarette smoking from characters, including Mary.
  • A man is seen pouring (presumably alcohol) from a flask into a coffee cup. Later on, he pours himself scotch in a glass.

Frightening & Intense Scenes

Spoilers

The Parents Guide items below may give away important plot points.

Sex & Nudity

  • It's heavily implied that two characters are having an affair with one another. One suggests going on a trip together alone and the other laughs, plays with her hair then says "good luck explaining that one." Nothing is made explicit, however.

Violence & Gore

  • A woman shoots her abusive husband in the head, killing him. Her face is all bruised from an altercation they had earlier and his face is already bloodied from being pistol whipped and beaten earlier.
  • A woman shoots her lover in the chest but the bullet is stopped by his flask. She then shoots him again in the head, killing him. This is very sudden.

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • The beginning where a family is taken hostage is somewhat intense
