Uneven and too sentimental
pasaribuharisfadli22 May 2022
An uneven road trip with not so compelling characters and an overly sentimental plot. Especially in the first half. Fortunately, it's getting better in the second half when the film finally gets a more clear point of view. Should use some trimming to make it tighter and lose some of its unnecessary narrative fat.

Reflective movie about romance and friendship
witra_as13 May 2022
Reflective film about romance and friendship you can easily engaged.

Baz Poonpiriya brought interesting perspective towards Thai people living in New York with their own reality check. Tor & Ice shared meaningful journey over long choices and slow buildup.

More than "Exes"

Warning: Spoilers
It's a drama movie that may not be as sad as many people think. But it did come out very well. Besides the story of lovers It will be a story of two friends who have made it out to be equally satisfied. It would be great if you could come and see it without being spoiled because of the twist. And the story is difficult to predict. It's a very good movie. I recommend everyone to go see it in the theater. Because the picture work is very good.

Nostalgic Buddy Film ONE FOR THE ROAD Nails It
lkgleeson15 February 2021
One for the Road is full of nostalgia as multiple genres come together including romance, buddy film, as well as sex-positive melodrama. The film had a wonderful soundtrack with some Cat Stevens music along with several mainstream hits, a strong production design, and a lovely mise-en-scene with exquisite cinematography and a touch of colorization. One For the Road follows a young Thai man, who is dying from cancer and has decided to make his final amends by delivering a parting gift to those closest to him on the earthly plane.

One For The Road is very visual, very visceral, and one I was sad to see it end after 136 minutes. But end it did and as the credits began to roll, there it was - a title revealing "Produced by Wong Kar Wai" - "... a filmmaker who specializes in making the evanescent tangible, in capturing fleeting emotions in a style that is always poetic, often ravishing and, despite his films' surface-level dreaminess, unerringly precise." I'm a huge fan of Mr. Wong's work so all I could do in that moment was sit and smile. What a wonderful gift. (Wong and Director Baz Poonpiriya worked together on One For The Road for three years.)

Director Baz Poonpiriya, a strong storyteller who has come into his own, had previously helmed Bad Genius the 2017 Thai box-office smashing and the record-breaking winner of twelve categories at the 27th Suphannahong National Film Awards (the Thai Oscars), before embarking on One For The Road with Wong. If you're a fan of Wong, this is a film you don't want to miss. And, if you're a fan of Thai film (Apichatpong Weerasethakul's 2010 Uncle Boonmee Who Can Recall His Past Lives turned me on to Thai film), it's a must-see! Lastly, if you simply enjoy exquisitely told films, I highly recommend you see Baz Poonpiriya's One For The Road!

Best one in a while.

It's been a while since I last watched a movie that has just the perfect mixture of everything. Storytelling is brilliant that it blends some key important feelings with each people you cared for. Visual side is great all the way from roadtrip starts until the end. I really wanted to have such a great trip like what was in the movie.

Cinema at it's best. You've been on a journey, got deep into superbly played characters, your emotions are all stirred up, beautiful photography, carefully selected soundtracks. Cheers to the director and cast!

Insultingly slow and a cliché plot.
supawitc6 April 2024
I do acknowledge the quality and uniqueness of this movie that distinct from most Thai's movie. The actors are top class as well as the settings and cinematography that are top notch.

However, the movie is inconceivable slow and the build up builds to nowhere. The characters are boring similarly to the storyline.

There is an attempt to complicate the story, but to no avail. Instead, it dragged the movie to the point that it is an insult for the audience to sit through this time consuming cliché of a movie.

Disappointed, this makes Nattawut equivalent to MC Hammer...a one hit wonder with 'Bad Genius'.

Anyhow, congratulations on the award, but it is not my cup of tea.

The best film I ever watched
hsrcprwh10 March 2023
Warning: Spoilers
One for the Road is the best Thai Film I ever watched because many reasons that make me love this film. I never love any film like this before the picture, the story, the character, the cast, and the tone of this film.

The first reason is the way that the director using 2 side of tape cassette to represent two parts of story of best friends Aood and Boss as tape A and tape B. It's so cool because the tape is reminded Aood to his father who is the moderator of radio. Everything in this film is connected. Cause that radio making conversation between Aood and Prim one of their exes. The strength of this film is the connection of every character and the realistic of them because character and the story was developed by background story of the director Baz. According to his interview, that he says he made this film by own experience all characters in this film are reference to his old friends and exes. This point made the film more realistic in every situation and the decision of the character and the story. And some of characters study acting from the real person in his life. For example, the main character, Aood reference the act when walking, talking, and acting from director's friend who got the cancer same as the character.

One for the Road is the film, I really hype because I ever heard about this film around two years before it released. I heard that this project made by the production of Wong-Gar-Wai, and this is the first time that crossing work between Thai Director and abroad producer who know-well in film. He is the legend. To be honest he made this film more interest by his name is the producer.

And another reason is the movement of cam in transition it's really smooth and has elements that can be the soft power to travel in Thailand according director say "He want to make this film to be the love message from Thailand" Causing it's the big project, So this film is Thai film but the budget is a big one. The director decides to use this budget to buy a lot of music license. That's sound like musical but the way that the director inserts the song into the movie making us really impress to the story.

If you have a ex or exes😂 For sure you will like this one. And you will get into this film easily if you are cocktail fans because another interesting of this film is take the story of their exes into cocktails. That's so cool because the cocktail is represent to the relationship between Boss and Prim because they are bartender. You must see many kind of the relationship, bad ex, ex that you making bad to them, friends, best friends, old friends, and the one you never and couldn't forget.

So now if you are reading these reviews go on let's watch it!!! Now available on Netflix. Let read the love message from Baz. You must like it.

I actually quite like it
benloveshawn4 October 2023
This movie is beautifully done, with a lot of hidden meanings throughout the whole movie, some thai critics commented it is overrun and long, but actually the movie is about two persons two stories like a music cassette with two sides.

It is not the typical Thai movie, every aspect is upto international artistic flim standard. Cinematography is superb. Music and editing are fantastic. The main lead, Tor, is such a great actor,. He has so much potential to be an international star. Hope more people can appreciate this great movie.

It is a very touching and meaningful movie, the plots have twists and turns, though it is two hours long, it is not boring at all.

very touching!
mayangpuspa13 April 2023
At first, the boss seems like a nasty guy. But as the narrative progresses, it becomes clear that he is genuinely a devoted friend, particularly to Aood. It has some unnecessary narrative, but the storytelling is still great. The dramatic journey of Aood and Boss has me feeling deeply moved. It's certainly not all that smooth; there are definitely some bumps along the way. Every person that they cared about is depicted in the movie with a variety of situations and feelings. Although it's not as sad as I thought it would be, this movie is nonetheless very touching and heartwarming. Besides, I enjoy the soundtracks and color grading!

One of the best drama movies in a while
praewpun-movie-geek20 April 2023
Not always a fan of Thai movies due to bad cinematic or bad script. But after watching this movie, it has become one of my fav, not just for Thai movie! Watch it and you won't regret. The movie surprises me so much after watching I have to come to IMDB to see who is the director and his previous works. This movie deserves to be watched all over the world. It makes you think about life and death in a different way. The character buildings and stories are very well written and directed. The director has definitely understand how to use throwback scenes in between. SUPER IMPRESSIVE. Just go watch it!!!

Fulfilled my expectation
kepa_pro1 July 2022
As a Hong Kong Film Critic myself, this is one of the most anticipated Thai film for years as I noticed there are two up and coming film directors from Thailand shining the world. Of course, Mr. Wong Kar-Wai saw the same thing and took one step farther to produce Thai film. It happened once again after Mr. Peter Chan produced "Sam gang (2002)", while I started my career as film critic in which I didn't understand at that time. 20+ years later, Korean and Thai film are already bypassed HK movie and take over Asian market, so what's happen? I finally understood the situation of HK Movie Industry when I got in. Anyway, Mr. Wong Kar-Wai shown the world Thai ver. Of "See You Tomorrow (2016)", also shown the world Hong Kong Film Producer can push to next level.
