Every 5th Word was Um and Uh. Not very funny
radrobd1 March 2020
I like Pete on SNL, but I can see why he says they only put him in small doses. He's not funny for 45 minutes. His delivery doesn't land. Every fifth word is "um" "uh" "like" "whatever". He also appears to have ADD or something because he'll begin telling the set up for a joke, get distracted and talk about something else, then maybe come back five minutes to the joke he set up, but without any payoff. I think the audience laughs at Pete the celebrity, not Pete the stand-up. If he wasn't famous, nobody would think he was funny.

Funny guy being mostly not funny
rasmus28089027 February 2020
I'm no stranger to dark / f'ed up humour and definitely doesn't offensive or off-putting in that regard, but its the sloppy delivery and awkward pauses that makes this really hard to get through. It's like he's high (and not the good kind) throughout the show and looses hes train of thought multiple times, he even starts a joke at one point then starts to explain something completely different and never circles back to finish the joke. And I feel bad cus this guy is usually funny and gets too much flak from haters

Painfully awkward

I am a Pete Davidson fan. He is a great storyteller. There were a few funny stories, but man was it hard to get through the awkward parts. It wasn't his best. It was all around awkward.

Humanizing
morasco-4101829 February 2020
I laughed or at least chuckled for most of the show. Fair warning, depending on how broad your sense of humor is, some jokes may upset you. It wasn't the best stand up but what he did really well is tell his side of the story. It felt real, honest and sincere.

Very Hit and Miss
crossinlanta26 February 2020
If you can tolerate his awkwardness- which seems genuine and not staged, there are some truly hilarious moments. But not everything lands. Overall, this seems like a decent set from a rising stand-up who's getting a Netflix special because he's SNL-famous. But Pete seems to realize this too. Give this kid another 5-10 years and he'll be great.

Not special worthy. Mostly awkward.
darrel07627 February 2020
Pete Davidson is not a horrible comic, but this special is not a good one. I feel like he ate 3 grams of shrooms and was tripping the whole time. It would explain the goggles and pauses, and hard time he had getting through his stories. So many great comics waiting for a deal, and this is what comes out?

Misunderstood
nikp-7414228 February 2020
Pete's style of comedy is very awkward, I find it very unfair that people are criticizing the special for being awkward. If you watch SNL Pete will occasionally join Collin Jost and Micheal Che on weekend update and deliver his awkward take on something and it's just funny. Pete easily replicated that to create something that I found to be quite enjoyable.

mildly amusing but intriguing enough to keep watching
tessamusic8 March 2020
There are no big punchlines or reliable rhythms to follow but that is what made this special so watchable for me.

It feels like a stream of consciousness in front of a crowd and the awkwardness of that is precisely what makes the atmosphere electric. Because it is not perfectly pitched you feel like you're actually kind of getting to know him as a person to a certain extent.

I enjoyed hearing him talk about Staten Island and sharing his encounters within the standup community. For me it wasn't pure comedy, it was an insight into another culture and his observations of life just happen to be mildly amusing but also intriguing.

Boring boring boring
stephenpaultaylor4 March 2020
I'm 45 minutes in and I haven't laughed one iota. I'm amazed how this guy got a special at all. "Oh, you're on SNL. I guess you should get a Netflix Special". Just... no. No no no. This was unbearable. Sex jokes! Yay! So funny! Never been done before! Porn jokes! Yay! So funny! How does this stuff get green lit? I'm astonished. I wanted to like it, but I just didn't (so far, at least. I think I'll shut it off pretty soon). None of this is important, relevant or life-changing. It's some guy with tattoos onstage thinking he's funny. Why on earth is the audience laughing? Don't watch this. It's a mess

This guy is awkward and unlikeable

He's really funny and random. His humor style is great. Gets the laughs
aditibaindur25 February 2020
The show was good! Very funny...especially the second half!!! I like his comedy style. He doesn't take himself too seriously, and he's hilarious. Some jokes may be above the comfort line for people, but stand up comedy is subjective and that's okay.

I watched it with my friends and we all really enjoyed it. Hope to see more of Pete on SNL too! Big up, Pete. Keep it up.

Better than many
mksavage-669-44078628 February 2020
Take this performance for what it is. Comedians rarely fire on all cylinders (with a few notable exceptions depending on your preferred flavor of comedy). Is this the funniest thing you will ever see? No. But there are laugh out loud moments that are enough to keep you moving past the awkward ones. To be clear, I am neither a fan, nor a hater of Pete Davidson. His rare appearances on SNL have evoked a chuckle occasionally, but rarely more than that. I always found him a bit aloof, but endearing. I was very curious, and somewhat dubious of his ability to handle a stand-up routine. Once I gave it a chance, I was actually surprised. I have seen less engaging comics have longer sets with weaker material. If you can get 15 minutes of really funny material out of a 40 minute set, I say that's pretty good. Consider this an album with a few really good songs and check it out.

Just stories and applause, not laughs
MrMcMurphy26 February 2020
For example, weed. Everyone knows Doug Benson is quintessential "weed comic," but he's F'n hilarious. Pete just uses crowd pleasers like weed to get claps, not laughs.

Just stories. No wit or cleverness.

He probably got nervous and got much less high than usually, right?
kofila19 March 2020
I really like Pete. I like his acting, I like his comedy.. He feels like a really nice dude.. But this felt somehow nervous and standoffish.. I think the pressure got to him and he just didn't feel comfortable and then it's rather hard for the viewer to feel comfortable watching it. I thinks his average wednesday night club show would be much more fun. Maybe these big Netflix specials just aren't for everyone and maybe Pete needs to go back and leave those be for a while.

jacobtighe-4808913 September 2021
Pete's comedy isn't for everyone and that's ok, he's awkward on stage and slow but that's part of who he is. I personally enjoyed it but I can understand why some may not like it.

An insight into the man that is Pete Davidson.
kerrodnolan26 July 2020
It's not crazily hilarious, but I can appreciate the humour that's provided. He may not have the most amusing stand-up, but surely does have one of the most interesting and charismatic personalities in the industry.

Not Funny
rodolfogvaldesr29 February 2020
First of all, I don't watch too much SNL and when I do, I already thought Pete wasn't a funny guy. Nevertheless, since I read that this stand up had some A.Grande references, I gave it a try. I only watched the first 17 mins because i got bored to be honest, and after minute 13 I started to notice that he looks down to the floor ALL THE TIME. At times it seemed like he was reading the "lines" from the floor or something.

I hope that he paid netflix to have this aired and not the other way around.

Don't waste your time watching this.

Its a 7.5-8 stars show!
andreitirla26 February 2020
I rated this show 10 stars only because its getting so much hate from all Ariana's fans. Its a good show, a solid 7.5-8. Dont be fooled by all the negative reviews it's really not that bad.

How can you call him a comedian?
craigmbritt27 February 2020
I always thought comedians had to be funny... Pete is NOT funny. This special is more like a ted talk. I don't understand how anyone can find this funny. I want my time back! I'm a huge fan of dark humor, but this is not humor. I want someone to count how many times he says "like."

If you like dark humor and can take a joke, you'll enjoy his show!
BennyBunny0326 February 2020
It's definitely not a 5.6 show, as someone else said it's maybe a 7-8. I wouId even put it in the 6.5-7 range. I don't believe it deserves such a low rating. If you're familiar with Pete's comedy, he's dark and unconventional. He even said in the beginning some of his jokes would split the audience, he's always been that way. So, if you can handle his genre of comedy, I recommend his show and it wouldn't be a waste of your time.

He can do better
JJ0100127 February 2020
Pete Davidson has a lot of potential as a young comedian with this much popularity so early in his career. The only problem is his self-esteem and current outlook on life. He could accept every opportunity as a chance to make the best of his career but instead it seems he constantly questions "why me?", "how am I still on SNL" , "how did I make it this far?"... etc. And I know this is meant to be "dark humor" but there's a difference between a comedian who perfects their craft and delivers self-deprecating jokes in an entertaining way (like Louis CK and Tom Segura) and then you have someone who spews out whatever is going on in their head in hopes that people will find the rant/pity party even mildly amusing. You are what you think Pete and I truly hope you get the help you need to break through these mental blocks and show your full talent

That Hurt to Watch
jeffreymbtaylor3 March 2020
Painfully awkward. It felt like he was trying new material that he wrote down while on mushrooms, but failed to administer mushrooms to the audience to make it even bearably funny for them. Really horrible act and this was my first, and decidedly last time watching him in any fashion.

Needs much much improvement.
azbritton3 March 2020
While Pete is a funny guy, his stand up is horrible! He is so awkward and bad at story telling. The jokes are ok at BEST! Not really worth the watch. He needs to hang around better comedians like Rogan or Diaz or Burr and try to work on his stand up game because right now its horrible. I turned it off half way through.

Brilliant!
moxixe26 February 2020
Without giving too much away, I will say this...the realism of his jokes are funny. His sense of humor is so relatable. I watched it twice. It's so remarkable how he can tell a story with so much amusement. You're like, no...he did not just say that. It's so funny and true, and we're all thinking it. Most people don't like to admit it. His delivery is brilliant!

Is that a laugh track?
mck-2073915 November 2021
This kid is particularly unfunny. His material is bad, his delivery is arguably worse. He has no personal style and he seems to be trying to copy the worst of each bad comedian of his generation. It looks like he thinks it's cool and funny to be vulgar. Many of my favorite comedians can be very obscene, but the more obscene, the bigger the genius. This dude is a hack and can't pull it off.

Unintelligent, unoriginal, not an ounce of wit, just embarrassing.
