Sehr lückenhaft im vergleich zum Buch
mlh-3594418 December 2021

--- Those who read the book will be very disappointed. Many interestting facts and story parts were discared and new parts were created just to fill there voids with no connection to the original. I couldn't get myself to watch more then two episodes. The book was sadly put in a bad light. Too bad, the book had such high potential! Maybe one day we will get a hollywood great movie version of the book or one of Mark Elsberg's other books.

The most surprising thing about Blackout is that Germany would turn in to a post apocalyptic nightmare in less than 4 days. They'd run out of food and water in two days, and apparently there's only one couple in Germany that has solar power?

These are Germans. Masters of efficiency. I don't see how any of the above would happen in less than a month. I could see it happening in America in under a week, but not Germany.

Hmmm

Started well but then it tracked out. I really hope politicians and the police in Germany are smarter in reality.

Otherwise some good acting contributions.

Unnecessary deviations from the book, terrible execution
network-561-58952226 January 2023
Warning: Spoilers
I don't get it: the book had such a great story. The characters and relationships were very well written and developed. The actions and sequences were logical and made sense. A lot of research went into the book. Reading it, I almost felt like watching a movie.

They just had to stick to the book.

I understand that movies have to make shortcuts. But for one: this is a series, so they would have had enough time to tell the story as it should have been told.

And secondly, some shortcuts don't make sense at all. They also left crucial characters out of the film. And to make things worse: they created NEW stories instead which are just ridiculous and pathetic. The 2 children who stayed in the train (why?) and of course met a psycho, the people trapped in the amusement park...

IF you change the book and create new stories, then they better be good.

I cannot recommend it.

Hopefully someone will create a better version of this book. Tom Hanks would be an awesome choice for the main character :-)

Surprisingly entertaining despite the logical errors
dergrotz23 November 2021
I really liked the book, but the show made many things that are well explained in the book look very unlogical. If you can handle this, the show is still a good production with interesting characters. It is a good show for two or three boring evenings during a lockdown. Nothing special, but good entertainment.

Against all physical laws
gunzerandreas14 November 2021
It could have been a great series, BUT why didn't the writers ask a technician, engineer or SOMEONE who a few years physics in school?!

Really bad science here!

Vaguely based on the novel by Marc Elsberg
jnotter9 March 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Once you have accepted it's not following the storyline of the book it is actually a pretty good suspenseful mini series. A tech guy finds out one of the reason for a major blackout in Europe. Due to his shady past he becomes soon the main suspect behind a terroristic attack. He on the run tries himself to find out who is behind this all. Besides that main line we are seeing how the German government, German state police, Europol and others are handling the situation. There is a side story line about two young girls been missing and happening to be the daughters of the catastrophe responsible from the German government. All in all compared to the book, the series sacrificed plausibility to emotionallity and thrills.

Unnecessarily terrible
ryanmkincaid29 June 2022
Characterization poorly written, scenarios that are illogical and glaring plot holes. The series has an interesting premise but the execution is awful. Save yourself the time. This show is bad.

Total mess
mihai-sandu3 July 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Whoever wrote this has absolutely no idea ever about how things work. And of course from certain elements (mata at radna dot ru email address ) the Russians are to blame. Because why not. And hackers. A complete waste of time.

One of the best series in the history of the world
bcnkor17 May 2022
Warning: Spoilers
With a wonderful script, from a state of light to the total darkness of humanity and its consequences. But there is no real criticism of the abusive and constant price of electricity and oil throughout the world towards human beings. In addition to the fact that in a state of law, you cannot allow police or military torture against anyone, we all have rights, because otherwise you become worse than what you are judging. And of course after a blackout things will continue to be done wrong as always, the human being stumbles over and over again with the same stone, many people in the world are warning us that we are not doing things right, but they do not pay attention until that you hit the wall.

Main idea from "Revolution" but in german?!
benschmidt-4891127 December 2022
The idea reminds me of "Revolution" by Eric Kripke and Jon Favreau and Sci-fy legend J. J. Abrams. Ofcourse since its a german production it can't meet the high standards of a hollywood production.

But since "Revolution" is not so well known outside the channels of the Pro 7 media group and the topic "Blackout" is around in heavy rotation since the last months the idea meets the "Zeitgeist".

What "Blackout" does better is focussing more about the main topic and its effects. And ofcourse a big difference is: While the Kripke-serie "need to get the power back on" is more about civil war and american perspective this serie is mainly about effects in Europe. Something that wasnt covered by the us series atall. And I think its a good idea but could have needed improvement. Especially since this here is a bit to political in IMO. But still not bad for german production.

A fairly realistic collapse scenario
volvuspa26 August 2023
I hate series. Few of them have a script that could keep you entertained for an hour, and then they make ten episodes out of it. And they never finish, because they want to produce a second season.

Blackout has a good script and grabs your attention because the actors are good and the plot is realistic. It's about the collapse of modern civilization, but not due to zombies or alien invasions. It's about a power blackout, and the chain reactions that leave modern European countries without heating, food, transport, law and order. Soon after the light goes out, we're without Internet, tap water and supplies. Many details are implausible, but the series makes you aware of the vulnerability of modern cities.
