For the culture
DastardlyDude27 July 2022
If you are a fan of everything 90's hip hop culture than you will love this show. Even besides the core hip hop story it also gave a good glimpse of what it was like being a teen in West Germany during that time. I absolutely loved it.

Right in my alley

It was around 1990 when I joined my first hiphop group and started rapping after falling in love with it in the years previous to that! I'm also from a small town and around the age those guys are playing. Love the atmosphere, the acting and the storyline. It reallly brought me back to those days! If you love hiphop and the 90s.... I will definitely recommend to watch this hidden gem on HBO Max! I'm from the Netherlands by the way.

One of the best tv series this year that I found. Nice story, cool and funny characters, some decent acting. Beautiful language :) to sing or rap.

Good job! Congrats!!

Excellent

For someone who grew up in Germany in the 90s, this show is more than just entertainment. It's affirming! I also found hiphop for the first time back then and it also affected me in a hugely positive way. This show not only does a great job of avoiding being campy, but is also beautifully sensitive in all the right places. The costumes, directing, set design and actor's portrayal of the attitudes of that time period are spot on. I will definitely be rewatching the first season. Not really pressed to see a second season; the first season has a nice conclusion and could live on its own for the rest of time.

I love this show!!!!!! The tall German woman that had the kid impregnate her... lord, she was beautiful! The entire cast was amazing as well as the throw bag era of clothes and slang!!!!! I truly hope I get to see a season 2 and many more .... Again, absolutely great job of tackling growing up in the 90's.

Heartwarming and funny

I love coming of age stories if they are good and this one is definately one of the great ones out there. Six episodes were too few, I would have loved to follow the characters for much longer, so we are going for a second season. Its a heartwarming and funny story about young people in the years after the Berlin Wall came down, their family backgrounds and struggles, first love and frustration, played by talented young actors. We laughed out loud at times and enjoyed the setting in the nineties. Not sure how well this works if you don't speak German and therefore might not be able to get a feel for the time and the German-ness (in it's best sense) of this series, but my husband and I both really really loved it.

Seriously well done

I tend to cringe with German shows. But this one hits all marks. No unnecessary exposition. No loose ends. No fillers. A well balanced story that is acted by very charismatic actors set well in the 90s. Love the heart of this show. And the story it's told with all the side plots and how every character is growing.

Nik is low key the hidden champ. And Bens and W's story has character and grit. So true and relatable the struggles they're dealing with and to see them grow and manage it all so well. I find it depicted the German culture of yesterday perfectly and it was nice to see that obvious on the nose acting wasn't a thing.

One thing that bothered me. I don't think Germans were that proficient in the English as depicted here. But I could be mistaken.

Decent German period piece
geister_faust7 August 2022
Very nice and authentic period drama focusing on living and growing up in Germany during the ninenties. Young people from different backgrounds are discovering themselves through hip-hop, while battling with common teenage problems: educational success, self identification, relationships with the parents. Good acting and convincing visuals are bringing very warm 'feel good' vibe, although drama is present and palpable. It's remarkable that almost all of the characters are equally present in terms of picture time. Highly recommend it if you want to experience the vibe or interested in how hip-hop influenced youth during that period in Germany.
