Old-fashioned Soap
lor_19 July 2020
There's no writing credit for Holly Randall's "Finding Rebecca", but apparently some pornographer was exposed to the movies of soap opera specialist Douglas Sirk back in film school to yield such an earnest, old-fashioned opus as this oddball Wicked Pictures release.

Avi Love is in the hospital with amnesia, following a car crash which appears to be attempted suicide. She's visited by family and friends but can't remember anyone, bonding only with her kindly (and lovely) redhead nurse Jayden Cole.

Loaded with turgid dialog not resembling current speech (more like a 1930s screenplay) plus four sex scenes, "Rebecca" has a quaint charm precisely because it is so different than today's gonzo brand of porn. Avi makes for a sympathetic heroine, but the male leads (Brad Armstrong as her rich lawyer of a philandering husband and Jake Adams as her boyfriend) are saddled with ridiculously nasty personas.

After many a red herring, the unexpected happy ending is oddly satisfying.
