basically the fireplace channel
kaioker22 December 2019
What they attempted to do was alright in theory, but i really wish they had at least used the same voices from homecoming. using different voices i found quite jarring, especially for Nuffink. to expect his thick Scottish accent and to not only not have it but it didn't even sound remotely close. it made it feel more like a grad school project. overall, interesting idea, poor execution.

if you choose to watch it, all action starts at exactly every minute marker.

Although it may still be unnecessary - i somehow found enjoyment watching it.

I really don't know why they even made this short, since it doesn't offer all that much. All of the characters are just goofing around, while waiting for the mutton soup to be ready. It feels more like something that was made specifically to be played during the end credits of a movie (if the end credits lasted around 28 minutes) and even though i did somehow enjoyed the experience (i saw it two times before writing the review) - i seriously doubt that everyone else will enjoy it the same way like me.

The best things about this short is the animation, sound, acting (it's still nice that the actors agreed to be in this short) and the fantastic music (which is the biggest reason of why i would recommend it to everyone, but there were still some occasions of repeating the same track), but the rest of the aspects like the story, characters (all of them are already established from the previous movies, but they could have at least added something new about them, since it's that long, but they didn't), dialogue (which was very minimal) and cinematography - all of those negatives makes it average at best.

If you decide to skip it (which is something that is fully understandable, if you do that), then i wouldn't blame you for that and for me - i do prefer "How to Train Your Dragon: Homecoming" more than this short movie, since it's way better and more rewatchable. With all of the positives and negatives, i'm giving "How to Train Your Dragon: Snoggletog Log" a 5.3/10.

Rubbish. Animated pic of a fire with a couple of interludes every 5 mins. Why? Why? Why?

Pathetic excuse for a short movie!
nikthepik10 December 2019
An absolute disgrace to the franchise. Can't believe the makers even had such an atrocious idea to begin with. Nothing to see other than an animated fireplace gif, skip it and move on.

What was that?

Never thought I would write a negative review to one of my beloved franchises but that what it is unfortunately. Fireplace's beautiful but watching it for 28 min is absolute nonsense. The action lasts for 5-10 seconds every minute, and basically the whole movie can be reduced to 3-4 minutes. Thus judging by the background sound the real action that could be funny and really interesting to watch happens behind the scene. I expected so much more. I thought it to be the same short film as other ones with all the funny dialogues and situations or at least the main characters sitting beside the fireplace and telling different stories and having dragons playing around with kids. But definitely not this.

If you want to watch this, make sure you know how to speed things up.

I've completely retired from writing reviews on IMDB, but this short animation made me write a review again. Not because of the animation is very good, it's because it's very bad. Honestly, I can't believe that this is from Dreamworks and a Christmas special of How To Train Your Dragon.

I've watched a lot of How To Train Your Dragon animation series, and I've never seen anything like this that bad. I mean, it's Christmas and so, they should've made it more special. Instead, they made it dump. To be honest, when I first saw this, I was like what the hell is this? There are too many unbelievably long gaps between scenes where people/things appeared on the camera. If you don't understand what I mean, I'll explain it in detail. Please continue reading.

The reason why I watched this short animation is that this one is a Christmas special of How To Train Your Dragon as I've stated in above. So, I thought it'd be great. But it turned out to be the worst one I've ever watched. When I watched this one, I had to increase the playback speed to 2x. I've never done this before in my entire life. But I had to when I watched this one because I've run of patience. So, most of the time, the playback speed is 2x and when someone or something appeared on screen, I paused and backward 10 secs and watched it. Every time someone or something appeared on sceen, it always takes a lot of time to apppear the next scene. Most of the scenes are fixed on that damned fireplace. And the other things are just short scenes. That's why I've said there are many long gaps which are very unnecessary. Because of those gaps, the animation becomes longer. If those gaps are removed, I guess it'd be just 5 mins long only.

Moreover, the content is also not good. It's very simple and so predictable. I predicted what the final result. I only kept watching because I wanted to know what I predicted was right or wrong. It turned out I was right. That's why I said it's so predictable.

To conclude this review, I recommend you not to watch. It's just a total waste of time unless if you want to listen some Christmas songs and scores. Otherwise, you'll disappoint watching this one like me.

Garbage Short For A Great Franchise...
TheLastGamer1812 December 2019
As the title suggests, its GARBAGE. Literally I downloaded a 3.8GB file of this movie hoping that it would be good as Homecoming was. But I was proven wrong. The Short takes place near a fireplace. It starts there and it ends there... With major variations like the kids of toothless come and play and do stuff (that too for less than 1 minute). The camera angle doesn't even change for the whole 30 Minutes. Except in last every member comes together, drink Yak Nog and throw up. Thats the longest scene in the entire Short that does not contain the stillness of the fireplace. A sorry excuse for a short... Not worth it. I wasted my internet and time. DONT WATCH IT.

You guys just don't get it
christimarcl12 December 2019
This is supposed to be something you put on in the background while doing Christmas stuff. It isn't supposed to be something you sit down and watch. It's like the fake fire people put on their tv to feel like they are sitting in front of a fire. They made one of Shrek also. All the bad reviews are from people that didn't know what it was supposed to be. They expected an actual show, but that's not what this is.

Only sad it wasn't longer

It's short but it is a super cute addition to the series. My 8 year old watches it once a day and my 4 year old gets so excited and laughs and screams through the whole thing.

Justice
titanJedi24 February 2020
This "movie" is simply a play on the YULE LOG. It IS NOT meant to be a movie; it's a cute fireplace scene for the holidays that kids will enjoy. The negative score and reviews should be retracted. I would rate this very highly, but rated as 10 to help with the erroneous reviews. Enjoy!
