Good, but not memorable.
MIssM196 April 2020
Cleo has a successful foodtruck. Gabe comes back home for his brother's birthday, and he also happens to have a truck. They meet while buying in the farmer's market and there, Gabe learns about her foodtruck. Later, we see him parking his in front of hers. So, it begins: a little friendly competition, they hang out, they really get along. Until, the real competition arrives: whose food is the best.

I'm not gonna lie, it didn't get my attention the first 20 minutes or so. But then when it did, I actually enjoyed it. It was cute. Natalie was so much better in this movie as an actress than the previous one I saw (A Winter Princess). Michael Rady is great, I really like him. There was a good thing going on between them. At least, they didn't seem indifferent to the other. Likeable secondary cast. . What made me really happy was the "pre-ending" drama: it was explained from both point of views and both of them had good reasons. And they talked about it later like adults! No ignoring, no assuming something they shouldn't, no leaving town!

I see this movie takes place on May 8th, so it's good to see there is a world where is no Coronavirus. If you are in quarantine and enjoy these movies, you will like it. Is it the best? Will you want to watch in a year when you see Michael Rady in another Hallmark movie. Ha, no. It's perfect to have it in the background while you do something.

You're Bacon Me Crazy

I don't understand all the moaning about this film, I actually thought it was one of the better Hallmark films, with characters who seemed vaguely normal.

Yes, they all very much follow a format, but this was well-played out and good fun.

Its Two Stars Are Aligned
atlasmb14 September 2021
This Hallmark romance features two main characters that are very likable, making this an enjoyable film to watch. Natalie Hall plays Cleo, a chef who owns a food truck in Portland. Michael Rady is Gabe, a chef who drives his food truck around the country, enjoying new places and new people. When he comes back to Portland for his brother's birthday, he meets Cleo. From the start there is attraction, especially on his part.

When he parks his food truck near hers, a friendship develops that has an element of competition. He is such a nice guy, he goes out of his way to help her. When he discovers she plans to enter a cooking competition in hopes of winning the big prize and financing her dream, he helps her conceptualize her strategies and think outside the box.

She, in turn, treats him somewhat shabbily, but she realizes Gabe is on her side. It's a nice romance that develops organically, without benefit of dates or romantic scheming.

The entire cast is enjoyable, really. And this film rates as one of the better Hallmark stories.

The Portland food truck scene, filmed in Canada.
TxMike5 December 2020
While there are a number of establishing shots of Portland, mostly from overhead, the locations for filming are in Canada, which is common for Hallmark movies.

A young lady operating a very popular sandwich food truck gets some competition from a new truck in town, one that specializes in bacon. There isn't much friction, but some, so you know what the story love arc will be. And the story involves a competition, if she can win the $100,000 then she can re-open her grandfather's old restaurant.

My wife and I enjoy the occasional Hallmark movie, they are always pleasant as this one is. This one is part of a two-movie set on a DVD from our public library.

The movie was filmed in February 2020, just before the COVID pandemic became widespread. There is a late scene, supposedly on May 8, 2020, with people gathered in a group to hear results of the competition. Ironically it turned out in May 2020 you could not have had that scene without face coverings.

Persimmons & Bacon

Warning: Spoilers
Not the strongest actors but what a welcome relief from no exes or current fiancés or past husbands/wives. Thought perhaps more Portland beyond the opening bridges shot but alas! no. And I liked how they explained the other's thinking perspective right away instead of a huffy stand off. So, I enjoyed it but not a keeper.

Very predictable ending Warning: Spoilers
I know Hallmark has a lot of similar storylines and I really like the cooking ones however just once I would like to see the guy win the competition. This one like all the others has the woman win against the very capable but once again loser in the end of show comp..

fine for Hallmark
SnoopyStyle11 September 2021
Cleo Morelli (Natalie Hall) has a food truck in Portland. She encounters Gabe (Michael Rady) who just arrived with his own food truck. She makes Italian sandwiches. His truck is called Mo-Bacon. It's all fair in love and war and food. There is a first annual food truck competition with a grand prize of $100k.

I want more food work. Sure it's a Hallmark romance movie but it's the title that got me. They need to do more montages of food preparation and they need to do it better. It needs to be thrilling and beautiful. Also I've never had a persimmon which makes it hard to judge the creation. There isn't much in drama which is fine for Hallmark but then it tries to manufacture some. Characters need to stop trying to open a restaurant. Restaurants always fail. Get another truck. Here's an idea. Marry the two trucks and create a new food truck idea. They could do all fruit-based sandwiches. In the end, the food is fine. The actors are fine. The story is fine. It's all fine for Hallmark and it's got a great title.

Mis-match
rebekahrox8 April 2020
I don't feel this couple was very well matched. Beside looking very much younger than Michael Rady, the character of Cleo acted like an immature high School girl as opposed to Gabe, who responded to her antics in a mature level-headed way. she pulled a dirty trick on him by ordering all that food she didn't need while she could see that he was being slammed. What a brat! And then, when he successfully delivered it, he didn't even charge her for it. Did she even apologize? I don't remember. And then, when he offered to drop out of the competition, she had a tantrum because he was being egotistical instead of taking it kindly the way it was meant. Was he being egotistical? Maybe. but so what? That was his problem.

I've always liked Michael Rady, but have been unimpressed by Natalie Hall. She is just another over made up pretty face, and brings nothing special to the table. The story was actually pretty interesting and I did like that there were no big misunderstandings. A nice epilogue at the end further justified the half-hearted "7" that I gave this effort

It was focused in the contest
franciscodejesus5 July 2020
I enjoyed this movie, was interesting to watch the trunk food competition and to learn about other fast food options that could be out there, unless it was created only for the movie. It was not a really romace movie, but it is Good to watch.

Cute movie but...
maggie12248 April 2020
The idea is cute, but the set design group really went too overboard on the whole fake flowers in the spring time thing.... Just WAY over the top. Okay we get it, it is spring time in Portland, there are flowers, but come on... way too many fake bunches EVERYWHERE ... Flowers that are not even in season. The morning farmer's market is a joke, it is spring, Romaine lettuce heads that big! And no way are apples, carrots and persimmons ready in April even in Portland. The story line was okay, you can tell how the story will end, but the journey there is so very Hallmark but of all the Spring Fling movies they churned out this year the set design was actually off putting. You know the old saying less is more... it would have been a much more visually appealing movie with far less. There are spring veggies and fruits around work with them and it would still be a good Hallmark flick... whether or not food trucks are in old town Portland is not relevant to me, it is a story and it was actually filmed in Langley BC so the fact that there may not be food trucks i Portland makes no difference. Even in Langley in April those "spring" flowers and veggies are not around... Good Hallmark movie, just bad set decor

This gives bacon a bad name.
Racingphan214 September 2021
Warning: Spoilers
This movie isn't awful, but it's flat and frankly, boring. I like both the leads, but they had absolutely no chemistry.

Also, you could tell this was filmed in the winter, as you could see people's breathe when they talked. Not exactly food truck weather.

Fun movie.
wkozak22122 October 2020
I watched this because it sounded funny. I was right. This starts off a little slow. However it picks up quick. Especially with the families meddling in. The leads work well to-gether. The movie did make me hungry. Luckily I was heating lunch at the time. It is nice to see a different city as a locale. Grab the popcorn!

The movie was okay. I got bored in some parts. I wouldn't definitely watch it more than once as it did not create a smooth story like other Hallmark Chanel movies.

Obviously not Spring, too many flowers and poor writing.
bindonjs31 May 2020
Warning: Spoilers
I liked the 2 main characters, but not a lot of chemistry. The premise had promise- not as formulaic as most Hallmark movies. But..... every time anyone spoke outside you could see their breath on the air, so clearly not Spring in Portland. Too many flowers. They were everywhere, and over the top. Cleo won eligibility in the contest by making sandwiches- when she decides to throw away the bread and totally change her food truck menu and theme, should she have still been eligible to compete? They should have had her get rid of the sandwich theme after she won and started her restaurant. What did "little brother " do to afford that house?? Same with Cleo. Quite the digs for a food truck owner. Even for Hallmark, the end was cheesy and predictable. She wins the big prize and he wins the "best in show". Even the other way around would have been a little bit of a switch.

Writers need to do their homework
mymimmy6 April 2020
Cute story. Likable characters. There was a pretty big error though. Movie takes place in Portland with Food Trucks. We have food carts set up in food cart pods. If there are any Food trucks, I have seen a few, they don't drive around like they do in other cities.

For the love of food trucks
MickyG33325 March 2023
6.3 stars.

This is the first time I've seen a Hallmark that is mainly about food trucks... no really. I think there's been a few movies that have a food truck, or two, but not for the main course. Cleo (Hall) is a woman who runs an Italian sandwich truck in Portland, Oregon, and a guy named Gabe (Rady) comes back to town and his truck is just as good as hers and his main ingredient is...you guessed it. Now there is a real competitor and the whole situation wakes her up to reality in many ways. A romance buds from this competition, and even an actual competition comes to town, and may the best truck win $100,000.

I think the leads are great actors usually, and in this film the food looks amazing, but is not showcased enough for us to really get the juices flowing, so we are left with a deficient plot. There is nothing special or original in this other than the concept of food trucks. Otherwise this is the same as a dozen films, but instead of a gingerbread, or baking competitions, it centers on food trucks. The rudimentary side stories don't satisfy my appetite for a good Hallmark romance at all, and the attitudes of the leads could use some adjustments. They are spiteful (mainly her) and childish. They need growth, and it's just not a very interesting film. I'll not return to "You're Bacon Me Crazy" anytime soon, because it's bacon me yawn.

One or two major holes, couple minor ones, otherwise just another sad Hallmark movie
celticwarrior_amazonwoma1 February 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Listen I wouldn't hold the same yardstick to a Hallmark food/chef/bakery/cooking movie as I would to an actual movie starring Zeta Jones or some other attempt at an A list blockbuster hit. I know they're all cookie cutter. But what are the chances I just saw another food truck competition movie a couple of weeks ago and they were both equally chintzy. Skip to my lou to the market to get some flowers and a baguette and then sit pretty on the food prep counter of your food truck to talk to people outside. Newflash no pro kitchen people do that. Another movie with props. The last one I saw was some bakery movie, and like they dropped a pretty face into a bakery kitchen and then went through a restaurant equipment catalog and clicked 'purchase' and then just dumped them all shiny and new into the kitchen and said ok that's all we need to make a kitchen movie look authentic.

Listen, if you ignore the fact that the whole food and cooking scene was completely fake as per usual Hallmark standards (you know, pretty girl who puts on a white jacket and pretends to be a chef), it was another run of the mill romance. If you dont care that she would just stroll through the market and help herself to stuff without paying, or that she goes on about having people lined up every single day for the past 5 years she's been running the truck, and yet every time you see her inside her truck there is either not a single customer, or the times she had a lineup and orders piled up, she just stood there with her 2 cohorts gawking out the window at her love interest bacon dude. Ok not to mention I mean for the sake of the story they want to highlight her tension with his truck, she's never made a single mention of any other trucks in the area- the truck is parked in a busy plaza but bacon dude is the only other truck you ever see. Until they go out for dinner one night, then she seems to know everyone's name. If you dont mind the fact that there's a HUGE plot hole, the story of why her granmpa's grocery store/market that she helped out at when she was tiny is now for lease, and yet somehow near the end of the movie, we have zero details of that backstory, did he die, why is it closed up, why does she not have a clue who owns the place now? She said she was born and raised Portland and never left. It's not like she left like in so many Hallmark movies, you know, born in some small village, leaves for big city, comes back and takes over family business etc etc. This bothered me that there was zero info on this. You went from ringing the bell on the counter when you were a preteen at your grampa's grocery store, fast forward zero life story, between then and now running a food truck for 5 years, mysteriously. No culinary school. Which is fine. Not everyone has to go to culinary school. But dear Hallmark writers. You can't just make up backstory stuff and drop it in but not explain it. The dots do have to connect. Even for a cheapo Hallmark movie.

If you're not bothered by the fact that she's been 'killing it' in the food truck scene for the past 5 years in a city that everyone knows is a giant food truck scene, she would have known all about social media presence, and not played dumb with her niece. Newflash all food truck owners know thats the only way to promote themselves. The last major loophole is how her thing seems to be 'cooking with love' and goes on about fresh veggies etc, so head to her house and she's transplanting a mature tree in full bloom. For one thing, you don't transplant mature trees that are in full bloom, they would never survive. Not a huge deal if you are a generic Hallmark viewer and don't pay attention to these details, and/or not a gardener. Right so not a big deal. But the blatant lack of vegetables in every single one of her raised beds? she went on about planting veggies to donate to the homeless shelter? All she had were roses and tulips or daffodils. So that was kinda stupid. And finally, also a detail that one notices if one is into cooking or produce, but not enornous flaw. Persimmons aren't in season in May. They are ready in the fall. Again, minor detail if you don't care about those details or you don't know anything about produce and so this wouldn't bother you. It bothers me even so with Hallmark movies when the writers sitting at their boardroom table go oh hey we should drop this item into the plot for a little side story. But let's not bother research first and make sure it's actually plausible. Not glaring error, but bigger than say hey the movie was set in 1945 and yet the car the dude was driving didn't come out until a year later. I mean I wouldn't even point out that stuff for a Hallmark movie. Because it's Hallmark. But at least assume that your audience probably has some basic understanding about gardening. Or don't just make sh up to suit your story. Anyway, 2 sub par food truck movies in 2 weeks. What are the odds? Glad this was filmed before the pandemic. For that matter I hope Hallmark doesn't try to shoot any movies during the pandemic. Cause you know how that would go.

Pairing
sammyforyouhoward9 April 2020
I was nervous about this pairing at first as I love Rady but I was pleasantly surprised by the end how much I ended up enjoying these two together. This movie was a cute fun time with a food truck theme. I like that they had more a mature relationship. Hall and Rady were both really good in this.

You're Bacon me just eh....
ginasharp22 January 2021
I love I would love this but it was just okay. It was one of those with over the top smiling and awkwardness. I love HMM's but sometimes the awkwardness and way too much perky is over the top. I still secretly enjoy watching these but not for the feel-good but for the laughs. This was one of those laughable ones for me but still love my HM! The storyline seemed so cool, I think I got too excited for this one and thought it would be great so kinda disappointing that it wasn't one of the better ones for me but instead the laughable kind. Oh well, maybe they will try food truck storyline again sometime! Please!!!

Fun .. But seem cold
sammyforyouhoward10 April 2020
This movie was cheesy but I think that's what they seem to be going for with the title "you're bacon me crazy" I was worried with this pairing at first but I ended up in the end really liking these two leads together. You could see it was cold while filming so didn't feel very spring like to me. Once I got into it, I ended up enjoying the movie. Hall and Rady I thought did a good job keeping my interest. I ended up really enjoying this.. didn't think I would.

Makin' bacon is really cheesy
Ed-Shullivan10 April 2020
A romance blooms with two competing food truck vendors Cleo (Natalie Hall) and Gabe (michael Rady). Mrs. Shullivan and I are fans of the Hallmark TV films but this was more like a frozen dinner than a slow cooked family recipe. The two love interest food truck vendors are rarely seen cooking inside their respective food trucks, because they were always pre-occupied and sitting down in someone else's restaurant somewhere being served hand and foot. The flower arrangements were over the top and everywhere, even though you could literally see the frost coming out of the breath of the truck vendors when they spoke. Fresh flower arrangements outdoors in the late fall?

Cleo's grandfather used to run a popular Italian restaurant and the lease is open for a new owner. Mmmm? A food truck competition is running their very first annual contest with the top prize being $100,000.00 which is how much investment it would take for Cleo's dream to become a reality.

This film "is cooked with a whole lot of cheese" and this pun is intended. I give it a 5 out of 10 rating since I am not a fan of frozen cookie cutter recipes like You're Bacon Me Crazy.

LIBERATION!!!
"Liberate your food from the confines of bread." This is just one of the many lessons I learned from the film, You Are Bacon Me Crazy. I must compliment the writing throughout the film, the secret ingredient is love, what a unique and relatable line!

I wish they would release a cookbook based on, You Are Bacon Me Crazy. It could also be called You Are Bacon Me Crazy, the cookbook.

You can keep your veggie movies, this is a movie for the common people, meat eaters every one of us!

We picked this movie because of the title, You Are Bacon Me Crazy. My 22 year old daughter loved the title.

Mo Bacon, mo time with family.

Best wishes, The Podcast

Not crazy about this
TheLittleSongbird24 March 2022
Despite liking Michael Rady a lot, even in the films of his that are not good (where he has nearly always been a redeeming quality), the groan-worthy title that takes corn and cringe to a whole new level dampened things. Am also not a big fan of Natalie Hall and have been unimpressed by too many of her performances. Still saw 'You're Bacon Me Crazy' as somebody who is on a Hallmark completest binge and who has liked enough of their 2020 output.

'You're Bacon Me Crazy', the second Spring Fling film from 2020 (the first being 'Just My Type'), is better than the title suggests, and is a tolerable effort. It to me is still not particularly good, a case of starting off quite well but running out of steam in most areas later on. It is not one of the best 2020 Hallmark films, but a lot worse was done that year as well. 'You're Bacon Me Crazy' is somewhere around low middle and one of those films that doesn't offend but also doesn't wow in most areas.

Rady is the best thing about 'You're Bacon Me Crazy'. He is such a natural on screen and is a charmer, also looking very relaxed. Liked his character too, the only one to not feel one-dimensional and the only one one warms to straight away. The supporting cast are solid too, everybody gives their all without going too broad.

The production values are decent too, with the scenery being especially lovely. The first half is very pleasant, it has energy, amusing comic timing and is cute without going over the top on that.

However, Hall, apart from relaxing a little later, comes over as immature and overacts. Or at least she over-exaggerates her already exaggerated in writing character's flaws, not much here is done making the female lead character easy to like. The characters generally weren't developed well and were typical Hallmark cliches. Typical Hallmark sums up the plot very well too, which is pretty formulaic. Especially the too pat final quarter, which can be seen a mile away.

Despite starting off well, as said 'You're Bacon Me Crazy' runs out of steam. The momentum goes, in pacing (where it gets dull) and the writing (which gets perfunctory at best), the plotting thins out and becomes increasingly predictable and contrived. While the chemistry is there in spades, the relationship feels rushed and not focused upon enough. The script is too heavy on the cheese and the direction and music are routine.

In summary, tolerable but not particularly good. 5/10.

Food truck
sophielovescoffee9 April 2020
I like this storyline about the food trucks it's different then most. Two actors had chemistry. I like the female leads clothes and her NY accent. I laughed so hard during those moments she placed the order. It was one of my favorites this year. Food look good and made me hungry- great name for movie. I would watch again.
