Revealing mistakes
(at around 1h 45 mins) Sinestro takes off his green lantern ring at the very end of the movie to put the fear ring on however in the process his green lantern suit doesn't disappear.
(at around 1h 29 mins) When Carol is dangling unconscious in the hangar, her watch changes from her right to her left wrist between shots.
(at around 11 mins, extended version only) When young Hal sees his father blow up, his hair keeps changing positions.
(at around 27 mins) When the black SUV pulls into the government garage it is covered in rain. Next medium wide shot shows dry polished truck. Then back to wet again in next few shots.
(at around 35 mins) When Hal and Carol are dancing in the bar, they start with Hal's right arm extended, a reverse of typical leading position. Midway through their dance, he's leading with his left arm extended without their having switched.
(at around 11 mins) In the test pilot scene, it is claimed that the F-35's service ceiling is 50,000 feet. Its real service ceiling is 60,000 feet. Exceeding the service ceiling doesn't cause an aircraft's engines to flame out like in the movie. But none of this matters, since if they were testing the air superiority capabilities of the drones, they should have been testing them against a superior fighter like the F-22, not a multi-role strike fighter like the F-35.
(at around 9 mins) Pilots do not fly with their visors up the way Hal and Carol did in the combat test.
(at around 13 mins) The burning test plane has taken off and careens past young Hal who gives chase. The plane which has to be flying at a fairly high speed since it was airborne crashes to the ground ten seconds later and young Hal is somehow miraculously only a few feet away. This is impossible since the plane would have to be traveling with a speed of 90 MPH (132 feet per second) meaning it would have crashed about a quarter of a mile past Hal. We are supposed to believe that young Hal ran almost a quarter of a mile in about 15 seconds. Assuming he was about a hundred feet from the crash (he ran (1,200 ft.) his speed would be 55 MPH.
(at around 14 mins) When the test plane explodes young Hal is blown backwards and lands unharmed on the ground. This is a common scene in movies and TV and is nonsensical since an explosion of this type with a huge fireball also generates heat which would leave young Hal burned. In addition, he is blown a good ten feet which would also cause injuries.
(at around 6 mins, extended version only) Young Hal is seen running alongside the school bus as it drives away. He runs next to it for at least a city block. This is impossible since no human, let alone a child can run as fast as any motor vehicle despite the fact that movies and TV shows depict this all the time. In real life, the school bus would pull away from young Hal in a second or two since he could not run much faster than 7 or 8 MPH.
(at around 1h 13 mins) When Hal materializes the necklace for Carol's late birthday present, it's gone a couple of shots later. This is because items are only around as he is willing them. They are not permanent and go away when he stops thinking about them. This has always been his way in the comics and cartoons, and also explains what happened to all the other objects he conjured throughout this film.
(at around 13 mins) There is no minimum ejection altitude for the F-35: it's equipped with a Zero-Zero ejection seat. Zero-Zero means zero altitude and stationary (on the ground). However, when the plane is falling straight down at terminal velocity, this makes a zero altitude eject extremely dangerous. But none of this really matters because when Carol makes the minimum eject call the visuals show the plane at several thousand feet.
(at around 2 mins) Green Lanterns have no power against the color yellow; it is their one vulnerability, so it would be impossible to imprison Parallax who uses yellow in a green prison. This has been retconned to where Green Lanterns can overcome the color yellow by acknowledging their fear and overcoming it.
(at around 6 mins) Green Lanterns can use the power of their rings to fly huge distances through space, even through wormholes, yet Abin Sur has to use a spaceship, and when attacked by Parallax, flees in his spaceship rather than fly off using the power of his ring which could also be used to shield him from, or at least reduce the severity of the attack. While Lanterns fly through space with their rings, they can use ships to prevent exhausting the 24 hour charge.
(at around 1h 4 mins) When Senator Hammond's helicopter is hovering at a very low altitude over the party, there is no wind/downdraft created by the chopper.
(at around 51 mins) When Hal and Sinestro are practicing duels on Oa, the Minigun that Hal creates ejects brass cartridge casings. They should have been green.
Tim Robbins is only 13 years older than Peter Sarsgaard, yet the former plays the latter's father. In addition, Sarsgaard's character Hammond looks older than Sarsgaard, while Tim Robbins' character Senator Hammond appears to be the same age as Robbins (in his early 50s), making the age difference look even less than 13 years. For the sake of being believable, either Sarsgaard should have looked younger or Robbins should have looked older.
(at around 23 mins) When Abin Sur dies and Hal Jordan calls Tom Kalmaku to pick him up, Tom drives up towards the camera and opens the door. The reflection of lighting equipment can be seen.
(at around 6 mins) The Milky Way galaxy is depicted as a spiral galaxy, however it is actually a barred spiral galaxy.
(at around 1h 35 mins) During the final battle, the planet Neptune is seen in the same general neighborhood as Earth. The "Great Dark Spot" is clearly visible.
(at around 1h 5 mins) When the helicopter's tail rotor is damaged, and the aircraft begins to spit out of control, no one in the crowd runs away.
(at around 45 mins) Sinestro stands before the Guardians and says they face an enemy of unknown power that they do not fully understand. That may sound ominous and dramatic, but is untrue, since Abin Sur defeated Parallax and imprisoned it in a green encasing. The Green Lanterns know exactly what Parallax is and its powers.
(at around 5 mins) Abin Sur is powerful enough to imprison Parallax, yet in his encounter he shows fear, something Green Lanterns are not supposed to do, flees and is overpowered and fatally injured.
(at around 54 mins) Hector calls the student by his first name. This is a college situation, not a public school in which teachers would know students' names. No college professor would do this.
