Another new series from Norman Lear is coming to Netflix, but this time around the King of Sitcoms is tackling drama. The streaming service has greenlit “The Corps,” the working title of a new comedy-drama starring Vera Farmiga, Miles Heizer, Max Parker and Liam Oh.
Set in the 1990s, the drama will follow Cameron (Heizer), a high school student who is bullied for being gay. He decides to join the Marine Corps along with his straight best friend Ray (Oh) during a time when being gay in the military could mean jail time. The 10-episode series is inspired by the memoir “The Pink Marine” by Greg Cope White.
Prior to “The Corps,” Heizer is best known for starring in “13 Reasons Why” as Alex Standell. He’s also starred in “Nerves” as well as “Rails and Ties.” He will be joined by “The Departed” and “The Many Saints of Newark” star Farmiga,...

ABC has renewed its drama “Station 19” for a seventh season, during which, the show is expected to reach its 100th episode milestone. The network shared the announcement on Thursday.
“Station 19” follows a group of heroic Seattle firefighters as they put their lives and hearts on the line. The series aims to take viewers inside the tough, tight-knit and sometimes heartbreaking world of the city’s first responders.
In addition to the renewal news, Zoanne Clack and Peter Paige have also been appointed as showrunners and executive producers for the upcoming season. As Variety previously reported, former showrunner Krista Vernoff announced her departure from both “Grey’s Anatomy” (which is currently in its 19th Season) and “Station 19” in January.
In 2022, Clack became head writer and executive producer on ABC’s “Station 19” while also working as an executive producer on the ABC series “Grey’s Anatomy” — a role she’s had since the show began.

Meredith Grey is about to leave the building.
Grey’s Anatomy wrapped up its 2022 episodes Thursday and left viewers with a big pill to prepare to swallow when the ABC medical drama returns in February with its winter premiere.
In a clip for the Feb. 23 return (watch it, below), leading lady Ellen Pompeo’s Meredith prepares to say her farewell to friends, family and colleagues at Grey Sloan as she moves with her children to Boston.
While the promo certainly points to Pompeo’s final time on Grey’s Anatomy, that’s not the case — at least not right now. In August, Pompeo signed on to star in and exec produce an untitled limited series for Disney-owned Hulu. With the gig, Pompeo scaled back her time on Grey’s to only eight episodes in the show’s current 19th season. The winter premiere is the seventh,...

Viewers may be seeing less Meredith on Grey's Anatomy Season 19, but they'll be seeing more Addison.
Variety reports that Kate Walsh has closed a deal to recur on the upcoming season.
The news comes following a guest-starring stint on Grey's Anatomy Season 18, which got fans hoping for a more permanent comeback.
Walsh debuted on the freshman finale of the ABC hit, staying on as a series regular until the end of its third season.
The star then headlined Private Practice, a spinoff of the series, for six seasons.
Walsh had never closed the door on a potential comeback.
“Nobody knows what the future holds,” the star teased last year.
“But for now, this is what we’ve got planned: just to have Addison pop in and we’ll see what happens, what transpires.”
Addison is a beloved character who is tethered to the early days of the series.

You have Adelaide Kane (Reign) as Jules Millin, who was raised by drug addled artist/hippies “and somehow emerged as the only real grown-up in the family,” plus Harry Shum Jr. (Glee) as Daniel “Blue” Kwan, a sharp-witted, impatient and brilliant resident who is “generous by nature but competitive to a fault.”

Is it even a good rom-com if you don't suffer from secondhand embarrassment, scold the characters onscreen, grin like an idiot, and swoon a little?
No, it isn't, and since The Thing About Harry made you do all of the above, it was a good rom-com.
The Thing About Harry got so many things right. It was in the unique position of trying to live up to the high expectations of being one of Freeform's first queer rom-com's while also being a classic story like everything else.

It had the task of normalizing queer relationships in the same vein as most hetero ones in the genre while also being unapologetic,...

That’s the story at the center of The Thing About Harry, Freeform’s same-sex romcom starring Grey’s Anatomy’s Jake Borelli and newcomer Niko Terho as former small-town classmates who reconnect in college.
Initially, the flick (premiering Saturday at 8/7c) was “kind of a Hallmark-y Christmas movie with two guys falling in love,” writer/director Peter Paige (Good Trouble, The Fosters) tells TVLine. But when he was brought on board to rewrite the script,...

Freeform’s forthcoming Valentine’s Day film, “The Thing About Harry,” is an earnest romantic comedy that follows high school enemies who are forced to share a ride to their hometown to attend a friend’s engagement party, only to have car trouble, bond overnight in a motel, and come out the other side with complicated feelings about each other. While the “opposites end up attracting” and “characters with complicated pasts find they have more in common” are staples of the genre, what sets this project apart is that the two central characters are both men.
“When you look at the Freeform ethos, that is inherent to who they are. Ever since I’ve worked there, and I’ve been there over seven years, they’ve always treated Lgbtq people as part of the human landscape,” writer, executive producer and director Peter Paige tells Variety. “Everything that matters to me as a storyteller,...

Zoey Johnson is officially down one housemate after Thursday’s grown-ish.
The episode began with Nomi returning from an emotional ultrasound appointment, only to be ambushed with a surprise baby shower, courtesy of her well-meaning friends. But before the gang even had a chance to start eating melted chocolate out of diapers (showers are weird!), Nomi dropped a pair of bombshell reveals: Not only has she not decided whether she’s giving her baby up for adoption, but she also wasn’t planning on telling the father that she’s pregnant.

Last week on Grey's Anatomy, Schmitt (Jake Borelli) made a huge decision. After finding out that his favorite uncle had been secretly gay and had been treated horribly by his mom, Schmitt moved out of his mom's basement and out on his own. E! News talked to Jake Borelli for his new Freeform movie The Thing About Harry, and he spilled a bit on what exactly Schmitt's big move means for him. "It's huge because his relationship with his mom is so integral into who he is," he told us. "She's his best friend. And she's been there for him for his whole life. But I think we're realizing now that, even though on the surface, it seems like she's accepting him, that...

If you’ve read TVLine’s review of The Thing About Harry, you know that leading man Jake Borelli isn’t kidding when he says that Freeform’s crazy-cute gay Valentine is “just a romcom through and through. It’s not trying to be anything else.”
Yet the movie, about high-school nemeses Sam and Harry (Borelli and newcomer Niko Terho) dancing on the thin lines between love and hate, and friendship and romance, is more than a mere When Harry Met Sammy. “It’s not trying to be political, but it is,” says the Grey’s Anatomy actor, “just because it...

The thing about The Thing About Harry is that it’s not trying to fool anyone: it’s a romantic comedy through and through. With a tip of the hat to When Harry Met Sally (and even Hitchcock’s The Trouble With Harry before it), the Freeform original movie hopes to carve out some more space in the genre for Lgbtq stories.…...

First things first: You would have to be one seriously hardhearted bastard not to love The Thing About Harry, Freeform’s belated gay Valentine (premiering Saturday, Feb. 15, at 8/7c). Its leads — Grey’s Anatomy’s Schmitt, Jake Borelli, and newcomer Niko Terho — have chemistry for days. The script, co-written by director and co-star Peter Paige (Good Trouble), goes down as easily as a box of chocolates. Rare is the bestie/wingwoman who’s as appealing as Britt Baron (Glow). And the movie’s “Will they or won’t they?” moments are way more loaded than they have any right to be.

Freeform President Tom Ascheim has warned that if broadcasters don’t know what demographic that they are serving, they are “doomed to fade away”. This comes as he laid out his channel’s four-part strategy to attract millennial viewers.
The former Sesame Workshop exec, speaking at the Winter TCA press tour, said that millennials and generation Z viewers were the “biggest” and “most influential” audiences in the world. “They are voracious but exceedingly discerning consumers of content. They demand clarity and excellence and their exacting standards have helped us forge a dsintictive strategy to create a brand that’s built to last. This era of peak TV, frankly peak everything, if you don’t know who you’re serving or what you stand for, you’re doomed to just fade away,” he said.
