A movie which shows real ground level political games.
Very good acting done by everyone.
Little bit upset of thr ending, could have managed to be more good.

Well presented Sarpanch nama!!

Dhurala (Marathi film) review :
All izz not well in the Ubhe family!!
Their patriarch and village sarpach Nivritti Ubhe has just passed away and the big question is who will replace his position. Will it be Dada (Ankush Chaudhari), Nivritti's eldest son or his step mom Akka (Alka Kubal) who is a reluctant candidate egged on by the local MLA for his personal agenda. Then, there is also an ambitious sister in law Monica (Sonalee Kulkarni) who has politics on her mind!!
Director Sameer Vidwans' Dhurala is a well presented and cleverly packaged drama which exposes the political rot existing even at basic sarpanch level as well as greed and lust for power which can break the strongest of family bonds.
With a stellar cast comprising of half the Marathi industry, the performances from everyone is assuredly top class. Every character is finely developed and highly relatable. Writer Kshitij Patwardhan, take a bow!
Technically too, Dhurala is quite impressive and the crowd scenes during the election rallies are effectively handled. Thankfully, no item number pops up to slow down the narrative.
Though the ending may or may not satisfy all, Dhurala is one of the better political dramas coming from Marathi cinema. Not in league of Sinhasan (1979) or Vazir (1994), the film still deserves a theatrical visit. In one word, RECOMMENDED!!

A Film that takes a dig at Dynastic Politics
npdeo189 January 2020
Political dramas are a rare thing in Indian Cinemas. In recent times, except for Rajneeti i cannot think of any political drama that made viewers sit in there seats till the very end . Malayalam films produced great political thrillers way back in 1990s, unfortunately the ones which were made in the following decades were a clear rip off of the classic's made in 90s.
Dhurala takes a dig at the dynastic politics showcasing each family member's ulterior motives. The extent to which how the family members try to bring down each other for their personal gain and their hunger for power was showcased effectively.
The flow and direction of the film was crisp with the only flaw being its dramatic ending.
All the cast members including its supporting cast was well written and etched with Prasad Oak standing tall among the cast as a scheming and cunning politician.
Normally, i am not fond of Marathi movies as most of them, which i have seen, are exaggeration of Bollywood romcom's or Remake of South Indian films (like Classmate or Bus Stop). But such films will make my interest in Marathi films grow.
Films like Dhurala, Masala, Court are the films which will make global audience take Marathi movies more seriously.
(For me Dhurala happens to be the first Marathi film that i have seen in the theater's of United Arab Emirates unfortunately i was the only viewer in the cinema to see a gem like this...)

Dhurala (2020) :
Movie Review -
Wasted the Potential of Huge Assembled Cast which is worse than having No Potential at all. Political Conspiracies/Drama were never audience friendly content zone as we could not remember a single film in any industry having known as Universal Classic or even Regional Classic in this genre. When it comes to Marathi Cinema or may i say Bollywood to some extent, couple of Political Dramas have made a little profit at Box Office but all of them came with references from the real life popular politicians. Examples to be told are Raajneeti, Zenda, Thackeray (Moreover a Biopic) which were based on real life characters hence gathered little hype and worked on low level. Anil Kapoor starrer Nayak is still popular on TV and that film came without any reference, it's more like the only Orginal Film in this zone but ultimately it was a Commercial Failure too. Even in Hollywood films like All The King's Men which won Oscar and has been remade twice, but again a commercial failure because the negative content and filthy conspiracies set in local Politics. All these attempts have made it clear that Political Conspiracies and chaotic rallies were never supposed to be Loved by audience in huge numbers and especially in Marathi Cinema which is already running low with audience. Two dynamic and young talents from Marathi Industry Kshitij Patwardhan and Sameer Vidhwans decided give a try to hit even though there was no kick to it and unfortunately it came just a month after Maharashtra people were bored as hell of chaos of Assembly election politics hence the results were underwhelming.
There's a known dialogue in the film which says, "Potential Vaaya Ghalavan he Potential nasanyapeksha vait" (Wasting Potential is worse than having no Potential) and the film lives upto the meaning of it for it's own sake. That's not a joke, but i mean it. Dhurala is a chaos of Political Conspiracies set in One Family mostly which is of course divided by different views of every individual character in the film. Now there is a reason why did i say that it wasted the potential of biggest possible assembled cast in recent years. The last biggest assembled cast i remember in Marathi Cinema was Duniyadaari (2013), almost 7 years back. We had couple of films having big starcast like Classmates and few others after it but not all were such Biggies like Duniyadaari and Dhurala. So, Duniyadaari did not fail to use the potential of cast and made a perfect entertainer in Audience friendly genre therefore smashed every existing box office record. Dhurala was already far away from Audience Friendly Zone but additionally it failed to cash on the talent of big names involved in it. The overall narrative couldn't stay awake till the end and despite so many intentional efforts for On paper film, they presented it On screen for effortless content. Writer didn't justify the single character in the film except Prasad Oak who was alone on other side while most of the Focus was not on him. Out of 6 Characters in that one family, 4 were negative and 2 were with Positive shades (Saie, Siddharth) but by the end those 2 just don't seem to be doing anything sensible but to give up and shut thier mouths. How could any narrative have survived when the only 2 sensible characters in the film were Mute. The cumulative total of Dhurala ranks low because it doesn't prove any of the Coin's side, moreover it ends on a regardless note. I don't see how a political conspiracy end up on highly predictable note without any Noir and bleak ending? How did the unborn child was supposed to make sense in politically motivated family? I was having couple of ideas in my mind while the movie was coming close to the climax but it had a some other disaster stored in. I am not gonna tell any of my ideas now because the film has been made already and we might never get see such a big cast assemble again to waste the potential like this.
Dhurala still have positives like hard-hitting Dialogues, Cinematography, Background Music but all these are behind the camera notes. On camera i would expect more from big names like these however they were all not bad. Some were partially good and some were useless and the writer-director must be blamed for that. Overall, Sameer Vidwans has pulled down his own standard he set with a Great Film like Anandi Gopal. Dhurala could have been a good product if there was something called USP in the storyline, if it was shorter in runtime and most importantly if it was to prove something loudly and positively rather than overdramatic, highly predictable and to be more precise useless script.
RATING - 5/10*

Confused story of overly dramatic people
aniketshisode23 February 2020
This is a one time watch. While all actors make justice to their characters, but film doesn't make that impact.Director lost the
plot after interval. It's just a daily soap episodes put together to create a film. It's like Sameer Vidwans woke and decided to create a political big boss. Some characters are overtly written dragged. Some scenes could have been deleted. Editor should have been better. This film could have been better with all those characters and actors

The plot of the story is really innovative and interesting. It is brought to life by the powerful visuals by the towering actors like Prasad Oak, Sai Tamhankar, Siddhart Jadhav. Yes, the movie is a bit slow, but the flawless, subtle and deep rooted roles played by the actors makes you ignore that fact.
The plot revolves on a family feud after the Sarpanch(Chief) of the village Ambegaon passes away. His power- hungry wife and two ambitious daughter in laws contest against each other to gain power over the village.
