Frigthening exposure of appalling police criminality and mis-behavior
rbrb10 March 2020
This is an intense and compelling series about a so-called serial killer who falsely confessed to multiple murders.

What is so striking about the series is revealing the sheer audacity and dishonestly of the Texas Rangers and all the police departments who due to criminality, laziness, arrogance and stupidity were prepared- and apparently are still prepared- to believe a proven liar and con artist just for the sake of clearing their books of unsolved crimes.

The police 'fed' the confessor details of crimes and murders to enable his 'confessions' to be plausible.

But it is gets even worse as the suggestion is that these police officers and others deliberately 'lost' evidence, etc., and would falsely accuse anyone who tried to expose the truth about the total incompetence of the investigation.

It is shocking to see how the victims, their families and society as a whole are denied justice by the ego and lawlessness of persons in positions of authority.

Well done to the film-makers for a first rate presentation!

8/10.

Making a Murderer - Texas Style
SpacemanBob8 December 2019
There's more to this story than Henry Lucas confessing to any murder put in front of him. It's also about the power of the good 'ol boy network and how ruthless people can be when they don't get their way. It's a nicely crafted, interesting film. It goes by quick, not a lot of filler or repetition. A worthwhile watch.

Liar!? As many confessions were false brought on by corrupt crooked officials!
blanbrn9 February 2020
This is one interesting and moving doc as it shows doubt and reveals much truth about supposed serial killer Henry Lee Lucas. Lucas who when caught in the mid 80's a drifter and low IQ near toothless one eyed guy started confessing to hundreds of unsolved murders throughout the U.S.. And over eager and stubborn crooked police officials feed Henry the right info to look like many of their cases were solved. The footage is eye opening with documents, travel logs, interviews, witnesses and trial footage that helped shed light on this crazy blown up hoax. As Lee was used as a scapegoat for the criminal justice system, yet investigations, and retractions, and new DNA evidence shined new light on all involved. This should be as a lesson to show this is not what we want from officials, media, and the justice system. As this doc was a great truth revealing and eye opening mission of real justice.

Interesting and gripping throughout

Depicts a logical sequence of events, grabs attention throughout and does justice to the time spent on watching this series.

At times it feels like a few things are just dragged too much. However, it is great compilation of facts and events on the life of Henry Lee Lucas.

Ridiculous levels of idiocy.
adrian_rawling21 May 2022
If you're looking for the perfect television series to encapsulate the stupidity, ignorance and unscrupulousness that exists in US law enforcement then this is it.

Time and time again I see evidence that gaining a prosecution takes precedence over finding the actual perpetrator in the United States.

But the case of Henry Lee Lucas takes the absolute biscuit.

Whoever is responsible for United States global public relations needs to be silencing Netflix as soon as possible as these true-crime documentaries are exposing gargantuan and grotesque disgraces left, right and centre.

How do any of these sheriffs and detectives sleep at night? Do they drop off to sleep fantasising about the publicity, celebrity status and promotions they will receive for the utterly fictitious convictions they have obtained?

How about upholding the laws and principles they have been employed to uphold? How about seeking the truth!?

What is it about Americans? Constantly representing themselves and striving for personal success at the expense of actual justice.

Mind-blowing immorality that is embarrassing on a monumental level. Truly hideous.

After seeing plenty of these American docu-series now, are there any police forces over there that can do what they are paid to do, their job!

Interesting, but a bit long winded

Interesting story, but felt it could have been condensed into one or two programmes rather than 5.

Another Great Documentary by Netflix
royhectorkabanlit18 December 2019
Excellent, highly compelling, another great documentary by Netflix. I liked the fact that not only did they do a lot of interviews of people related to the case, but also show a lot of video footages taken during the time of the events also.

The series showed just how much of a disgrace to the tradition of the Texas Rangers both Jim Boutwell and Bob Prince were with their incompetence.

Most heartbreaking was a frail, old Joyce Lemons, a mother of one Lucas' supposed victims who was interviewed early in the series but later turned out to have died before the series was aired without knowing who the actual killer/s or her daughter was.

A Must-See documentary for me, absolutely amazing.

Wow. An example of the widespread destruction that can occur when people value the appearance of success over the actual pursuit of the truth.

Another great Netflix documentary
ssjenkins20 December 2019
I have to admit that Netflix really make some good documentaries . This is another one to add to the list . While I was watching it I was thinking ..."Why did I/we never hear about this before ?" . I suppose the answer is quite simple . The Internet . Anyway . It was really enjoyable , and raises all sorts of questions about the US judiciary system . On a more serious note . It did leave me feeling a bit sorry for any current family members , or friends of the victims who will now be left wondering if Henry Lucas actually committed their crime ....

Interesting story but way too drawn out
JordanSatmary25 January 2021
Just like most Netflix true crime series, this could've been a lot more memorable if it was edited more efficiently as a 1.5-2 hour documentary. Netflix has created this editing style so that someone can sit on their phone while half watching the show. What a shame.

Interesting subject matter but bloated execution
Ramdapanda15 December 2019
Just like a lot of other Netflix documentary series this show covers an interesting topic that is unfortunately drawn out way to long. It consist of five 50 minute episodes which could easily have been edited down to three.

It's like it was made for American tv where they repeat the same thing over and over to fill the running time and purposesly put off the actual facts in order to fabricate suspense.

Good, but can we believe it?
embmw9 December 2019
Well made, thought provoking series, but after the hugely flawed and slanted "Making of a Murderer" how much can we believe from a Netflix documentary?

Definitely worth the time, if for no other reason than to see how ready law enforcement is to believe whatever suits their purpose. But viewers should take what they see with a huge grain of salt. If you don't know what I mean by that, take some time searching the web for the *true* story that was so misrepresented in "Making of a Murderer".

Haven't gotten around to fact checking this one yet, so I'll give it a 7 out of 10 based on production values alone, but with huge reservations based on Netflix's history of bending the truth.

Warning: Spoilers
This is great! One of the biggest miscarriages of justice I've heard of! The great thing is too that in the final episode the DNA evidence provides a lot of answers to some of the mysteries.

Bigger show than Bundy but not bigger than Bundy.
tp-Isle7 December 2019
Warning: Spoilers
It has been going on for the ages. Siding with your captors. Henry Lucas is the biggest Serial killer of all time that killed one person his mother. This Limited series is an amazing tale of one of the greatest miscarrages of justice handled so poorly by the Texas Rangers when challenged by the legals and the street Sheriffs It is a stunning doco better than The Bundy tapes... interesting to note. One said I killed everybody one said I killed no body. both were lying. Henry Lee is engaging at the very least. This is a stunning tale of numbers more than anything. A must Watch as an article on early 80.s law enforcement in America.

Disturbing Examination of US Justice System!
henryshear3 March 2021
Well, when I first started watching I could not believe that someone in the US killed hundreds of people. Not to mention, I consider myself fascinated by serial killers and was shocked that I had never even heard of Henry Lee Lucas. However, all is not as it seems.

Henry Lee Lucas's case is most likely the greatest mistake in the history of law enforcement. However, it becomes clear that it is not a mistake. Texas Rangers are taken to various locations where Lucas killed his so-called victims, but he is not independently recalling moments of the crime.

The real injustice is that this case was crafted by Sheriff Jim Boutwell. We will never know how a deal to confess to murders ever took place, but he was a very powerful man hellbent on keeping his secret. This secret connects to both journalist Hugh Aynesworth and the biggest defamation case of the 20th century.

The series is riveting and there is always a cliffhanger at the end of each episode. It is very easy to keep watching even though the subject material is grim. The story shifts away from Henry Lee Lucas to these families that desire closure. I was impressed with the Cold Case Foundation, but their influence is limited since none of them are current police detectives.

This docuseries was nothing short of phenomenal. I was consistently impressed by how detailed it was and effectively showed how flawed our judicial system is. This is a must-watch documentary that I found to be really informative.

More police corruption.
Yet another documentary exposing huge police corruption. This time its the Texas rangers who used a total scumbag and possible serial killer to clear a huge backlog of unsolved murders. The evidence clearly exposes the departments extensive lies and proves there was no way Lucas could even have been in the vicinity of many of the murders they attributed to him. Sickeningly, this also meant that the real killers got away and were free to continue murdering.

VS is a true hell!!
jievie-796322 April 2024
I look at a lot of documentaries like this and the VS is a joke. The gouvernement is one big show and they kill too win even when they know they're wrong. Cops should work together but they live in competition with each other. The rangers in this documentary look like showman with their belts and hats. There's a death row that makes them not better than the serial killers they catch! Only God has the right to take a life not a human! The VS is the most corrupt and dangerous land i know with the most killer on their counts. I feel sorry for the people who live there. I' ll pray for them, they didn't chose to be born there.

So so good
raventaylor982 February 2020
Thoroughly enjoyed this documentary. I watched it while my husband was at work only to watch it over again with him and he loved it! (He never likes anything I pick lol) he was yelling at the TV and just stunned at what happened. I honestly wouldn't mind watching it a 3rd time with someone just to see their reaction.. need more like this!
