No. Nope. Please no.
Opinate3 August 2021
This feels like a grad-student film. It might impress at college because it looks good and has not-terrible production quality but the acting, writing and horror elements are abysmal. Even funny.

If you like listening to amateur kids garage band demos or enjoy watching other people's bad youtube videos, or your nine-year-old nephew's wonky animation, maybe you should check this out but if you are looking to be entertained for an hour or so don't bother.

Decent script plagued by many factors
dee_j-855333 August 2021
I feel for Marjorie DeHey here. The script actually works and she's not bad behind the camera but the production value is very low here, even for an indie. We've all seen more done with much less. It's biggest fault is the absolutely dull and lackluster performance from lead actress Billie Proffitt. She's playing a fairly despicable character and there's plenty to flesh out there but her acting is just terrible, it almost feels like a bad joke. Even the performers in small roles far outshine her. Had a real actress been hired I could see this being a 5 or 6 instead of the 3 I generously gave it . Alcoholic parents raising children is a real issue and a serious one as well. Too bad Proffitt wasn't up to the task of being anything except unlikable. Maybe a viewing of Meg Ryan's work in When A Man Loves A Woman would have been a good start. I hope to see more of DeHey as she sharpens her skills and hopefully next time she can find an actor worthy of carrying her work.

An atrociously bad movie...
paul_haakonsen26 January 2022
Right, well normally I am not one that sits down and watch a movie based on the fact that a movie have won so and so many awards, or been given thus and that much praise. But I have to say that I was somewhat impressed when I saw all the stuff on the cover on the 2020 horror drama "Bottle Monster". Sure, I didn't read all those, but I was impressed.

And given the fact that "Bottle Monster" was a horror movie that I hadn't already seen, of course I gave the movie a go. And I have to say that the movie's synopsis definitely also had some appeal.

But oh boy, this movie was a dud. Talk about a swing and a miss from writer and director Marjorie DeHey. The storyline in the movie was adequate. I mean, it wasn't an impressive storyline, but it had its moments. But for a horror movie then "Bottle Monster" came in low and crashed hard. I was quite far from being a horror movie actually, unless you consider insanely laughable CGI insects as horror.

The acting performances in "Bottle Monster" were amateurish, sluggish and wooden at best. I wasn't familiar with the cast here, except for Bob Clendenin and he was in the movie for a good whole minute or so. And normally I enjoy watching unfamiliar faces in a movie, but I have to say that "Bottle Monster" was not such an instance. The acting performances here were terrible. I am sad to say, but it is the truth.

Aside from "Bottle Monster" being fully devoid of anything scary, then the CGI in the movie was downright horrible. It looked like the discarded CGI rendering from a 1990s computer game. It didn't add any layer of scare or anything to the movie. Well, that isn't true, it made me laugh and shake my head in disbelief.

I can't recommend this movie to anyone, nor would I ever do so, because it was hands down a train wreck of a movie.

If I have to point out a single positive thing about "Bottle Monster", then it has to be the opening track. That song was actually not bad.

My rating of "Bottle Monster" lands on a two out of ten stars, and that is based on the production quality of the movie solely.

A Good Indie Horror
dude-2446827 November 2021
Came across this Indie film and thought it was very well done. Obviously not a big budget, but you can see the well written story brought to life by writer, producer, director DeHey. Funny to see Willie Aames as the landlord, even in a non comedic role he still has timing. Low end effects don't distract from the collection of a well cast film. Could use more creature as a creature feature, but still a good Independent movie.

A Good Film.
VanJanssen28 November 2021
Rarely will I read reviews and never ever write them. The negative reviews here are way to harsh. As an independent film supporter, you have to realize not all films are back by a film studio. With the small number of crew members and with the incredible list of talent, I'd say this is a very good film. Well written and directed by DeHey in what looks like her first feature. Cheers.

Very Different Breed of Horror.
TeamReCare2 September 2021
Incredibly well done indie film. Yes, you can find flaws in its limited budget of under $200,000,000, but the storytelling and all the points are all there and they hit the marks. I give this film 8 pedipalps up (= 2 thumbs up).

Well Done Indie Horror
JBsPopcorn5 September 2021
This was an interesting pick for my late night horror movie night. As a filmmaker myself, I can see how this film save hundred of thousands of using a real creature instead of CGI. Wonderful cast, wonderful Writing/Directing (Normal rule of thumb is Don't work with kids or animals, and DeHey does both). Not gratuitous with gore or (brief) nudity. A well done independent film.

The monster is a real creature - throwback to 50s flicks
thehorrorguy20107 August 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Ok, I watch a lot of horror films and this may not be for everyone. I liked it because it wasn't your typical "ghost in the house" flick. It was kind of a throwback to those 50s films where real, huge animals came after people. The creature is a whip scorpion and these things were just in the news as "terrorizing" a town in Texas. Google them - they are creepy.

Fantastic movie!

I don't know where to start. So impressed with this movie. Everything you want in a horror film. The writing and directing in particular really brought it all together. I don't watch a lot of horror movies but I'm so glad I watched this one!

"I know What I saw", You Should See It Too
killerfones6 August 2021
The kid knows what he saw and so do I. Builds up to reveal the Monster like some of the old Hammer Films. A good film to watch. And yes stay for the END Credits. This film would not have made my radar if it weren't for internet comment that made me look. And hell I don't normally. Worth my time money and enjoyment and WILLIE AAMES.

A quirky, well-done indie creature feature
Filmfellabc16 August 2021
Warning: Spoilers
I like this film. I found it to be well conceived, well written, and well executed. As a debut feature from this team, it hits far above what the Director said in a recent interview, was a "super micro-budget," and delivers an engaging and thought-provoking story, brought to life by a very familiar cast of supporting players. It's worth taking the time to watch it.

Quirky low budget flick
thepoint-032774 August 2021
I had a really good jump scare on this one. Would have liked more jump scares. The story was solid. Really thought the nurse was great and would like to see her in more things. Police officers were really good.

Highly recommend you to see this horror film. Bottle Monster is a groovy flick that balances Drama, Suspense, and Thrill-ride to an intense ending. A trainwreck of woman meets one of the ugliest monsters on the screen today. Highly recommended!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Creepy
john-0118125 May 2022
While fun is not the word I'd describe this film, it is well done. No CGI was used at all. You can see that The Monster is REAL. Now I rated this film fairly high, it did not have the budget of Avatar (That is for sure), but you can tell it is an independent production. For that I know the hurdles of indie films and this is one that is worth seeing for yourself.

The Next Evolution Of Horror

An independent film that is loaded with talent. Not for the squeamish. Willie Aames is a blast to see again. It's almost like a modern drama with a 50's horror flare.

If you are a Horror fan Check it out. If you are a independent film fan, check it out. A real award winning film worth your attention. Don't worry about 'Trolls' in the basement leaving negative remarks on every Indie Film. This film is a fantastic find for any true movie fan. '80s sex symbol Willie Aames is back. Fine acting all around by a well rounded cast. Great Writing and Directing that is designed around this original and thought provoking story.

Interesting combination of psychological horror and a creature feature
TheFilmCritic214 August 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Anyone who has lived with an alcoholic can relate to this film. The mother pretends everything is fine but her addiction is creating long-term trauma on her young child. The creature is freaking scary - and it's a real life creature which makes it even scarier!
