Had more expectations at first
vasso-ierem7 March 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Very interesting up to a point. Very predictable in the end. Three comments: 1. The main reason we initially had some doubts about whether the woman protagonist is telling the truth, is that she had accused another man in the past for the same crime. But then, there were no other information about that, till the end. Assuming this was also true, this is an extremely rare coincidence. In the first case she withdrew the lawsuit. Why? It was a very important fact that we should know more about.

2. Not showing exactly what happened in the end,but staying in the viewer's imagination, has become commonplace and boring.

3. Sister's affair with the ex husband, was just there for more drama but didn't help the plot.

The series had all the features to be perfect but unfortunately they did not get there.

Decent Thriller EXACTLY the same as the British Thriller Liar.
jhmoondance19 March 2022
Well......this was a decent written series but it was EXACTLY the same as the British thriller Liar however it lacked substance n suspense n charisma . It was basically run of the mill.

The acting was rather dull n lacklustre.

The ending was pretty much predictable.

I recommend this series if you like mystery thrillers.

Worth it despite the unrealism!
Guanche4814 November 2022
I liked the series in general, but I did not love it. The positives are the good acting and the photography on an island, the beach brighten up the atmosphere a bit. Despite the unrealism the series is quite entertaining.

The negatives: The feminism throughout the series is enormous! It starts in a very unrealistic way, the police investigating so actively from the beginning? That doesn't work like that, but it's a series and in this case pure fiction. Quite quickly the series begins to decline when introducing the story about the sister, which tarnishes the main theme, and above all it has nothing to do with it, it is only to fill minutes. The last two chapters are totally incredible and ridiculous, but also exciting. In the end you almost hate the victim, Laura, more than the rapist, a gun? Please! You've fallen under!!

A pity that the main topic has not been treated with more respect and truthfulness.

Original BBC Series Liar could be better
mohinderchugh6 March 2022
Mentiras as Lies and Deceit is remake of British Series Liar. Original British Series might be good as it has got good ratings but Mentiras is just a trash. Watched Mentiras as original was not available on ant OTT streaming channel but I regret my decision. You can avoid this as there are far better shows than this on Netflix and other OTT channels.

... really better than what you might think
bjarias14 March 2022
... Spanish thriller drama series consisting of a remake of the British series Liar... called Lies & Deceit on Netflix... IMDb median rating is '7'... and that's about right... well cast & produced, there are some inconsistencies yet overall the show is entertaining... endings for these types of series can be iffy propositions & this one is not altogether satisfying... but majority of viewers agree it is worth-watching.

worth watching

I loved these series. Captivating story, tension building development through episodes, unexpected turns, great acting. I watched all episodes in one set.

Enjoyable; entertaining
Gr8shpr5 October 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Thoroughly entertaining and great acting, I recommend this who dunit story!

It captivates by allowing the viewer to decide who is guilty of what. The actors are very talented. The story appropriately leads the viewer to different conclusions throughout.

We don't know for sure which facts are facts until the end.

Life lessons can be seen throughout.

The entertaining of various life circumstances can be shown to be misleading.

And let's include the fact that both genders could be caught at any given time in life destroying situations... that's a fact perhaps many of us want to avoid in life. Being drawn in to these type situations is to be avoided if one wishes to avoid drastic consequences.

Subtle but effective thrill

Warning: Spoilers
I actually liked this series. I did not have high expectations but loved how it ended. The other user reviews from men hating the series because it did not go their way speaks volumes of how women are second-class citizens in today's world. Finished this today during International Women's Day-what a coincidence.

No is no. Date rape is even worse because women can't verbalize "no". May all these sick rapists be put to justice.

Super boring after they reveal everything in third episode
CarmenSandiegoIII14 March 2022
The first 2 episodes are pretty good, they'll have you wondering who is telling the truth; and then for whatever reason they reveal everything in the third episode and it just goes downhill from there because we already know the truth.

It becomes super repetitive and boring at this point, I had to fast forward through some long drawn-out sections. The main character was very annoying, the doctor was super ridiculous and creepy and they wouldn't explain the reasonings behind his acts. A few characters were brought into the show with no follow-up.

The only relatively interesting storyline involved the sister, but that doesn't really go anywhere, and I found her character annoying as well. I usually like Spanish thrillers but this bombed.

Correct title ...
oznpeggy2 June 2023
Highly recommend this movie, but you won't find it under the title Liars. The title on Netflix is actually: Lies and Deceipt.

I absolutely binged watch this series and re-watched certain episodes to make sure I saw, what I saw.

The cast, the acting and enjoyed the originality of the script.

Or at least, I haven't seen another series like this and wouldn't know what to compare it with. I did rank it an 8/10.

Loved the subtitles aren't paraphrased it was word for word.

Can't say much without spoilers which is why., I'm writing on this format.

This movie is highly recommended, I'm now going to watch it in English to see if the translation holds up.

So disappointing
cmeyrick-8138922 March 2022
Started quite brightly but each subsequent episode just gets worse and worse. It is so badly written and the characters (especially the victims) so poorly drawn that you end up sympathising with the villain and hoping that he's really innocent of multiple rapes.

Avoid at all costs!

VERY GOOD WEB SERIES
sunildaswaney-6364215 April 2022
The English translation of this Spanish web series is "LIES AND DECEIT".

It's a very good, sensitive and tension filled family drama with matching performances by everyone. Everthing was top notch about this show.

8/10.

Such an amateur take on the British drama Liar. Watched it merely for the Spanish as I currently study it but this is painful to watch. Bad acting, aweful writing. Just bad. Avoid.

If it's a spanish thriller is a masterpiece..Even if is a remake is much , much better than the original. The original was predictible, suspanceless, played by talentless actors. It's not the case of this TV Series.

Extremely boring and unrealistic
premedprincessxo12 March 2022
It is rare that I just cannot finish a series- that too one that only has six episodes. This is the most dull, slow, uneventful and ridiculously contrived show I have watched EVER. I was reeled in by the "preview" on netflix which promised a psychological thriller after a mysterious night.

Spoiler alert (not): there is never any thrill to come. Just a bunch of monotonous conversations, no challenge that the protagonist has to overcome to get her story heard and the sister/ex husband affair is thrown in just for some excitement. But that is stupid too as its obviously added in due to lack of anything else going on.

Missed opportunity

Warning: Spoilers
The premise was interesting, had potential. Then in ep 3, they ruin everything by going the obvious way. It is a shame, because this could have been interesting.

Couldn't finish
dougawarren22 September 2022
Warning: Spoilers
One of the few Netflix movies or TV series I couldn't finish. It was boring, lacked intrigue ( it gave away the outcome half-way through ) Definitely a disappointing non-mysterious mystery, and I ended up feeling I had wasted a couple of evenings. I usually "hang in" till the end even if I'm not totally into the drama, hoping it will redeem itself. By the end of Episode 3 I gave up when the outcome became obvious . Even though I checked IMDb before watching I sometimes find a 6+ rating tolerable. Not this time. I cannot recommend it past saying " only if yiu have nothing better to watch can I suggest watching the entire series."

What where they thinking?
dhohman-9706016 July 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I'm sorry I'm not trying to be rude but honestly the series started out ok but then it just got worse. As in like seriously did the man hit his head a few times?? Not like he was a drug addict or alcoholic? Why in the world would you go and do the same thing and mess with a cop? Or go back to the victims house? Specially after she tried killing him a few months earlier? Guess he's got over his anxiety running into her earlier and the fear of guns? To me he look like he was about to score anyhow so why use a drug? The guy is an idiot. Not realistic. Cheesy.

Camera issue

I mean... where would he have hidden that big old camera in his suit pocket when he raped the lead camera? It was mediocre at best of times but that was just silly!

Rape victim as Nancy Drew with alot of Deus ex Machina
AnnPanders3 December 2023
Warning: Spoilers
I found this really interesting at the beginning. Then it cratered. For several episodes I was actually believing the good looking surgeon. It took forever to find out what the blonde's past secret was. Oh, she falsely accused another man of rape. There was absolutely NOTHING in the surgeon's demeanor to give evidence of any mental pathology or sociopathy. Then the blond Nancy Drew relies on her own detective work, breaks into her accused rapist's house by stealing her student's housekeys out of his backpack at school (student happens to be said accused rapist's son.. god this is when I should have stopped). Anyway, it goes from bad to worse. The lead detective on this case is also female, so despite all evidence that Nancy Drew is psycho, she still goes after the surgeon. Then we see the flashback where the surgeon actually DID spike NancyDrew's drink. Yawn. Incredibly the surgeon now turns into a psycho sociopathic rapist out of nowhere, and breaks into NancyDrew's house and spikes her athletic drink so she'll pass out and hopefully die on her oft kayak outings. PLUS, he also breaks into the the DETECTIVE'S house and drugs and rapes HER. Like, what?!?!? The rest of it is totally implausiable and frankly unwatchable. The term Deus ex Machina is used in film as meaning when the director just puts in random unbelievable evidence out of nowhere to push the story along. The characters do unbelievable things, incriminating evidence pops up out of nowhere, etc.

Do not waste your time.

2nd series ruined by Katherine Kelly
mikeclarke13822 May 2022
Where I like Katherine Kelly in most things, here she plays a cop who is quite unlikeable in terms of how she treats the suspects. Awful portrayal of a DI, poor.
