After being convicted of assaulting and harassing his ex-girlfriend, Grace Jabbari, Jonathan Majors will avoid jail time by completing a 52-week in-person batterer’s intervention program. Additionally, Majors must continue with mental health therapy. The new order comes as Majors faced a one-year jail sentence for his actions against Jabbari.
Last week, Majors’ legal team tried to have his conviction thrown out, saying there was “a reasonable view of the evidence to support that Defendant acted recklessly.” Majors’ arrest happened at the height of his career after the back-to-back releases of Creed III and Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. The latter positions Majors as Marvel’s next Thanos-level villain, Kang the Conqueror.

The Listener has had a long and winding journey to its late March 2024 release. The movie, opening in theaters and available on video-on-demand tomorrow, is genuinely moving. Much of that credit should go to the director and actor, who seem in sync in tone and highlight an exploration of compassion and empathy.
Tessa Thompson delivers a terrific performance in The Listener, taking the viewer on a journey that’s fulfilling. Director Steve Buscemi coaxes out a cinematic experience that seems to aim to build a therapeutic rapport with its audience. This results in a “bottle” film with only one cast member, whom you can’t pull your eyes away from.

Ever since Rocky took the world by storm in 1976, people have been enamored with the idea of an underdog fighting his way to victory. There is something about two people entering an arena and just seeing who is the best. Movies help us find the themes and metaphors we can use for this mentality in our everyday life. If you’re in a funk and then play the Rocky theme, you suddenly become more motivated than ever to get over that mountain called life. With Creed IV reportedly in the works, we figured this would be a great time to put together a list of the best fighting movies other than Rocky.

Plot: After having relocated to NYC to fight ghosts, the Spengler find themselves tangling with an old nemesis of the Ghostbusters, Mayor Walter Peck (William Atherton), who wants to shut them down for good. Meanwhile, an ancient evil will be unleashed over the city, releasing all the spirits caught over the last forty years.
Review: I was a big fan of Ghostbusters: Afterlife. Jason Reitman’s film skillfully blended nostalgia with a new take on the franchise that opened up the Ghostbusters universe in an inclusive way. It welcomed new fans without alienating old ones, something the 2016 reboot notoriously failed at. Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire seems to be aimed at building the franchise out more extensively. While it’s still a fun, nostalgia-driven return to the Ghostbusting universe, it’s not as good as the last film and spreads itself too thin to do the new characters justice.

The latest UCLA Hollywood Diversity report found that diversity is key to ticket sales, noting that Bipoc audiences and women drove the biggest box office winners in 2023.
According to the study, films like “Barbie” and “The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes” — which featured casts comprising 31-40% people of color — had the highest median global box office earnings ($119.8 million) among the top 200 films of the year, indicating that diversity drives demand for movies.
Researchers noted that audiences of color dominated opening weekend sales for 14 of the top 20 films, particularly when those casts included or were led by people of color. “Creed III,” “Scream VI” and “John Wick: Chapter 4,” which featured notably diverse casts, were the highest earners in their franchises; Bipoc audiences made up at least 60% of each film’s opening weekend domestic audience. Recently, the buzz around Hollywood is that WB/ Discovery is getting ready to take a massive $115 million write-down in content. Coyote vs Acme seems all but certain to be deleted, but apparently that’s not the only piece of content the company may be on the verge of scrapping. Indeed, the long-delayed adaptation of Stephen King’s Salem’s Lot has been in limbo for a long time now, and many fans are wondering when (or if) the axe is going to fall.

Three of the five Oscar nominees for Best Sound won at the Golden Reel Awards bestowed by the Motion Picture Sound Editors (Mpse) on March 3 . The Oscar frontrunner, “Oppenheimer,” picked up the prize for effects/ foley and dialogue/Adr while another nominee, “Maestro,” waltzed off with the music award. “Society of the Snow” claimed the foreign language trophy over, among others, Oscar nominee “The Zone of Interest. The other two Oscar nominees — “The Creator” and “Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One “- were snubbed by the Mpse.
The upcoming Oscars mark the fourth year for the new Best Sound category, which combines Best Sound Editing and Best Sound Mixing. There can be up to six nominees from a film: one production sound mixer, two supervising sound editors and three re-recording mixers.
Last year, “Top Gun: Maverick” won the prize for sound effects and foley here before prevailing at the Oscars.
