At the end of "Moby or Not Moby," three famous ships come to rescue the Warners. But all three are famous for meeting with disaster. The Titanic sank when it struck an iceberg, the Edmund Fitzgerald sank in a storm on Lake Superior, and the Minnow was the fictional ship from 'Gilligan's Island.'
Captain Ahab's voice is an impression of actor Gregory Peck, who played Ahab in the 1956 film "Moby Dick."
During a song in "Moby or Not Moby," the Warners advise Ahab to "watch 'Star Trek 4,'" which is all about the crew of the Enterprise rescuing two endangered whales. Earlier in the episode, one of Ahab's crew bears a striking resemblance to Scotty, a character from 'Star Trek.'
Pinocchio admires Ahab's wooden leg. In the novel, Ahab's leg is made of whale bone, not wood.
Ahab says that he wants to catch Moby Dick in order to harvest his oil and blubber. In the original novel, Ahab wanted revenge against the whale for costing him one of his legs.
