- While Maeve seeks out a reputable sorceress, Sinbad deals with a disreputable one of his own - who masquerades as him.
- Sinbad and his crew sail to Basra, to retrieve a priceless treasure from its Sultan for the Caliph: a sacred obelisk, said to have belonged to Ramses II of Egypt. Whoever owns it is believed to hold unlimited power, though the Sultan of Basra claims never to have found its secret. Maeve meanwhile hopes to meet a legendary sorceress in Basra, named Cairpra, to help in her search for Dim-dim. The Sultan gives Sinbad a medal to wear, which grants him "diplomatic immunity" in Basra, and access to his own treasure room. Someone who's also been eyeing the treasure room (though through magic) is Rumina - with plans to harness the obelisk's power herself. Rumina infiltrates the palace as a dancer, entertaining Sinbad's crew. When she and Sinbad go off alone, she shakes a magical dust on him, then snatches the medallion. The dust shrinks Sinbad to only inches tall, and she plucks him up, carrying him out in the top of her dress. Trapping Sinbad in a bottle in her bedroom, with her cat to guard him, Rumina transforms herself into his likeness, taking the medal to visit the treasure room - and to act as she pleases, angering the Sultan's men, the Sultan, and Sinbad's own crew. Maeve finds her quarry, who helps her learn more about her quest. Tiny Sinbad fights his way out of the bottle, and is spotted by the searching Dermott, who brings Maeve to help. When Maeve arrives, Rumina disguises herself as Sinbad again, and makes a play for Maeve. She fights back, spotting the real Sinbad and being startled just long enough for Rumina to stun her. Cairpra arrives next, restraining Rumina and helping Maeve and Sinbad escape. Pushing her magic to the limit, Maeve restores Sinbad's size, and the two stop Rumina from stealing the obelisk - this time disguised as the Sultan himself.—Anonymous
