Quite classy. If you want porn, don't bother with this. Acting, yeah, likable, hell, yes!

When I first heard about this, October last year, I downloaded two snippets on VuClip, and I posted a request on the board posts for more information, and was assured that I would find it classy. I then went for it on DVD. Had it imported. Finally got around to watching Season 1 in weekly installments starting today. To anybody following the discussions on the main IMDb site, that bit about Billie Piper being ugly... What utter tripe!

Look at the picture here on this page for episode 1. That is what RavenGlamDVDCollector calls 'a very pretty girl'. To American audiences, I'd simply say, "think a hotter version of Denise Richards, add to it that she can make you laugh"... I would rate Billie Piper a 10.

One thing for sure, I don't think ladies for hire look like this, not even at the highest end. I'm sure even if I paid a wagon-load, I'd not get this kind of beauty.

The film stock is just not comparable to prime- time US TV, it should have had the bright sharpness of MELROSE PLACE and CALIFORNICATION. Don't be put off by what I said though.

Film nerdy comment: The part of the pimp madam is s-o-o obviously inspired by Jacqueline Bisset as James in NIP/TUCK.

I would advise anybody to watch/rent/buy whatever. By the way, to the prudes, there is no visible female nudity in this, nothing beyond shoulders, feet, legs, etc. anyway. It's all implied, there is considerable camera angle work that obscures nudity. Be warned that there is male rear view nudity in one scene, some of you are really gonna freak out

All in all, plays like a fairly cautious soft- core movie, but one with charm, attitude, real smarts, and a very likable heroine. What it really has which those don't, is the acting ability.

I like this. If you have come this far, you will too.

So entertaining without smut

I was curious enough from the title to watch and was pleasantly surprised. Billie Piper is perfect in the role. Good acting and the right amount of sassy humour. Plus she's beautiful. She breaks the 4th wall by talking directly to the audience. She narrates most of the show but there are regular scenes with dialogue and fun action.

I enjoyed that there was no nudity or explicit sexual situations in the first few episodes I watched. The one I watched tonight certainly had more but even then it was the male client who was naked from behind. But it focused more on her having sex with her clients and that was boring and tacky.

She doesn't seem to have signed the nudity contract as we never see more than just naked ankles, shots of feet, legs etc. In an episode where she was considering breast augmentation, they very obviously used a body double for her naked breast shots. All shots of her were cut off above her breasts.

The reason this is important is that it makes us concentrate on the acting and the humorous scenarios and makes the show so much more enjoyable than just watching soft porn scenes strung together.

I think I must have missed some episodes. Last week she was falling for a guy and it was interfering with her work but tonight's episode had jumped to her having published a book and there was no sign of the boyfriend. It also had more sexual scenes in it which were a little embarrassing and it would have been much better without them imo. They seemed to be trying too hard at the expense of the writing. It cheapened the show so I hope this is not the direction it takes. That would be unfortunate.
