Not a good watch
kokousic-5621612 August 2023
Ajit is not rqual to Lalmohan Ganguly so dont make him speak like him. Not necessarily deviating from the origonal story line is a crime but it should have been carefully planned. Satyabati absolutely looked and acted out of place. Screenplay also needed refinement. Rushing the plot is very disturbing specially those who rrad the books as a teenager. Yes todays people specially bamgalis does little to no reading so they may find above remarks illigocal or harsh but if someone reads the book amd not goes through the pages, then they will clearly get the idea. Saradindu Bandyopadhay was an excellent writer who wrote these books approx 70-80 years ago and even after rrading ghe whole collection in bengali again and again, still the books amazes me now. Now for other movies or tv series, I think there had been some good portrayalsbit best portrayal was the old durdarshan series where Rajit Kapoor acted.

One Time Watch
SandipDuttaSandy22 August 2023
Review of #ByomkeshODurgoRahoshyo ::: Firstly Direction by #BirsaDasgupta is fairly average, Screenplay by Subhendu Dasmunshi is very sloth. Based on the bestseller Durgo Rahasya by #SharadinduBandyopadhyay and produced by #Dev, #ShyamSundarDey & Tanmoy Banerjee is not upto the mark.

As per performances are concerned, the trio Dev, #RukminiMaitra & even #AmbarishBhattacharya is miscasted and eventually they gave their career's worst performances. #RajatavaDutta, #ShantilaalMukherjee, #DebeshChattopadhyay & #ShankarDebnath lent abled support. #SatyamBhattacharya was impressive. #SampurnaMandal in her cameo sparkles in her body language and dialogue delivery. But the performance of whom I can speak volumes is of none other than #AtmadeepGhosh. Whatta marvellous actor he is !!!

Cinematography by #SubhankarBhar is of high order. Specially the way he took the frames in darkness meticulously. But since 80% of the film is shot in darkness, so the audience may tend to feel mundane. Editing by Sumit Chowdhury could have been crisper. The pace of the whole film is very slow, barring the last 15 mins. Costumes by #JayantiSen is of high order, specially the way she has handled the vintage look of the 40's through the styling of the cast. But, I must say, Pregnant Satyaboti shouldnt have worn such heavy or rich and ironed costumes.

Well this Byomkesh haven't smoked. Thats a nice touch of cinematic liberty. But instead of Bouthan, Ajit continuously calling Satyaboti as Satyo in 40's era, was too much to digest.

But a very predictable plot, and even if you haven't read the novel, still you can guess the culprit. Because, audience now-a-days are not dumb enough to be lost in such a narrative pattern.

Music by #DiptarkaBose was not at all hummable. The theme song is good but it didnt find any place on anyone's mind.

Production companies #ShadowFilms & #DevEntertainmentVentures and Distribution by #PVRInoxPictures have made a #OneTimeWatch film. U may give it a pass too.

Bad Movie with bad storytelling and bad acting
joydeepnath11 September 2023
Satyavati's presence in the first half made me feel like I was watching an art film rather than a detective movie. Unfortunately, there was no element of suspense or a detective environment in the film. Although the setting was visually appealing, it wasn't utilized to enhance the storytelling. Only in the second half did the storyline start to become clearer, but even then, it lacked excitement. Overall, I wasn't impressed with the movie. After a 10-year hiatus, I finally watched a Bengali movie in the cinema and was disappointed to find that the quality remains unchanged. Very very bad experience.

Brainless Byomkesh
rajkantakarmakar17 August 2023
Once Byomkesh was brainy truth-seeker but this movie has made him dull muscle man!

Once Ajit was deep-thinking writer but this movie has made him joker!

Once Satyabati was a critic yet supportive and proud of her husband but this movie has made her too annoying!

The cinematography, visuals are good to watch according to budget.

But where is the suspense? A detective movie must have that ingredients so that audience also will start thinking and analysing about the mystery from the beginning of the movie.

A big NO to that as first half is so boring.

Now come to Bengali pronunciation .. Sob jinis sobar dara ki hoi?

Garbage
raktimghanta11 August 2023
As with almost all Sharadindu Bandyopadhyay's stories, this one too is dark and unsettling. It deals with the vile manners and ulterior motives of men and women, none of whom can be trusted. Everyone wears not one but multiple shades of grey, irrespective of whether he or she has committed the central crime of the story or not. And in that sense, it sets up just the right mood for a noir-esque thriller. But just about then, director Birsa Dasgupta tries to do too much - of everything - to spoil the broth. Too much poetry, too much coquettish dialogue, too much overwriting - it just goes downhill from what is essentially an excellent opening sequence, one that holds both intrigue and promise. Twenty minutes into the film, and you are already feeling fidgety, because everyone on screen and behind it is trying to act too smart. Forty, and you are bored to death, because nothing new is happening, and by the time the interval comes, you are wondering whether you should even return to the auditorium after your bio break.

A really bad acting from the majority of the cast. Dev is just a joker. Most of the time it feels they are uncomfortable with their characters. The dub seems so fake. I have some expectation from Rajatabha Dutta, Santilal Banerjee & Satyam Bhattacharya but they failed. Personally, really disappointed with the character and the actor of Manilal (Satyam). The chemistry between Satyabati and Byomkesh is also very immature. Some of the actors have problem in accent in Bengali. The screenplay need to improve a lot. Dialogues are poorly written due to lack of research work. The direction is totally horrible. Overall this film suffers from poor writing, terrible execution.

Huge Disappointment
rebatighanta11 August 2023
The movie lacks the basic characterization of detective stories; not for a single I feel any suspense.

No edge of the seat suspense. Drag & boring screenplay. Why the bengali directors are always puting unnecessary closeness on screen with formidable dialogues are revolting. This is destroying the charm and grace of a Byomkesh Bakshi movie,,./// especially when the tone and standard have been set high up by Uttam Kumar and Rajit Kapoor, and also Gaurav Chakraborty...We need to reinvent the sleuth in his true avatar...however the movie succeeds in creating a mystery...that is all about it. Actors' talents have not been fully utilized in the film...Not recommended even for a light watch. Do not waste your money & timefor the undeserving film.

Fresh reinvention of Byomkesh & Detective Genre
sohomp13 August 2023
Dev brings a whole new fresh perspective to Byomkesh & proves himself. This was unlike any Byomkesh before and there was an added massy touch. His entry is one of the massiest entry scenes in a Bengali movie. Performances of each and every cast member are solid which elevates the film. Each of them brought a new touch to characters. Birsa Dasgupta's larger-than-life commercial presentation reinvents the detective genre in Bengali films. This is so well crafted and is very gripping & engaging, the plot captivates you. And it's among the most visually stunning movie in Bengal. The production values are impeccable. The music is very powerful, the Bom Satyaneshi track is a banger. The film hits all the right notes. It somehow reminds me of Sushant, Dibakar & YRF's Byomkesh zone. Overall I would say it's a very solid watch and a great cinematic experience.

Garbage and Worst
rezwanariya-8077017 August 2023
Worst Byomkesh movie I have seen in my life. Actor Dev's voice is very bad for Byomkesh character. His voice is not clear. Because we know he stutters and his expressions are not good. 'Byomkesh Bakshi Series' is being trolled for Dev's performance. Dev has ruined Byomkesh's reputation. I think the director made a mistake in choosing the lead actor. Rukmini is also not perfect for Satyavati. As kids we enjoyed Byomkesh Bakshi series. The film industry started producing movies in this series. But, nowadays they are not choosing good actors for those movies. As a result we feel very bad. The director has started the drama with our emotions. We want a good actor for the role of Byomkesh Bakshi. Not DEV.

Unexpectedly good. Refreshing.
nightblood-2766720 August 2023
Most of the hatred that this film is receiving is from biased intellectuals who barely get the essence of the Byomkesh novels and have never been able to resonate with Sharadindubabu's immortal creations due to their own preconceived notions and closed minds.

I was pleasantly surprised by how well-made this film was. Not only was Dev astoundingly better in this film than I had expected. It clearly shows how much effort he has been putting in to master the craft and he truly glistens like a diamond. Among the other cast members, Rajatabha Dutta, Sampurna Mandal and Debraj Mukherjee deserve a special mention.

I have never seen a Birsa Dasgupta direction or a Dev Adhikary production before. This movie certainly had me bowled over. You certainly take the crown home, king. It had been quite a while since I last saw a well-made and well-acted Byomkesh film. Happy to see Dev's Byomkesh filling in that void so well.

The film also did justice to the author by following the story closely (something that I am very grateful to the makers for; previous directors like Anjan dutta have only ruined my experience of watching Byomkesh so much that I really hadn't found a good fit for the part since Rajat Kapur last played the legendary sleuth). Thank you for making this very memorable film.

Worst
rebatighanta-8856114 August 2023
Basically "Byomkesh o Durgo Rahasya," is a dull film, renowned detective Byomkesh Bakshi, portrayed by Dev, is called to unravel a baffling case of Professor Ishan Chandra Majumder's suspicious demise from a snake bite within Inspector Purandar Pandey's jurisdiction, played by Shantilal Mukherjee. Doubting foul play, Pandey seeks Byomkesh's expertise. Accompanied by his friend Ajit Bandyopadhyay (Ambarish Bhattacharya) and pregnant wife Satyabati, Byomkesh embarks on an intricate investigation.

The plot thickens as they encounter the fort's owner, Ram Kishore Singha (Rajatava Dutta), his children, daughter's husband, manager, and household members, all residing in the nearby mansion. As the layers of deception and family secrets are unraveled, suspicions grow, and Byomkesh confronts a complex web of motives and hidden relationships.

As Byomkesh delves deeper, he uncovers hidden connections among the fort's occupants and unveils a series of startling revelations.

Screenplay Direction worst.

When Byomkesh met Shankar
soham-2135827 October 2023
"Byomkesh o Durgo Rahasya," directed by Birsa Dasgupta, features a solid cast. The main highlight of the film is Superstar Dev portraying the role of Byomkesh for the very first time. Rukmini Maitra plays the role of Satyabati, and Ambarish Bhattacharya plays Ajit. To be honest, many people are skeptical about the cast. The director has chosen a different approach to depict Byomkesh. "Durga Rahasya" is one of the finest Byomkesh stories by Saradindu Bandopadhyay. In this adaptation, Byomkesh is more adventurous than being a Satyanweshi, reminiscent of Shankar and "Durgo Rahasya." Dev plays his role with utmost sincerity, but Rukmini Maitra seems to be a misfit, with most of her scenes slowing down the pace. Ambarish, as Ajit, comes across more like a comedian than a writer. The other cast members perform their parts well, especially Satyam Bhattacharya. Subhankar Bhar's camera work is a treat to watch, and the locations are picturesque. The background music helps engage the audience. Overall, it provides a great theatrical experience if you don't expect this movie to be a typical Byomkesh film. The highlights of the movie are Byomkesh's introduction scene and the climax. Dev is attempting to introduce something new to his old audience, who love masala flicks. This idea is quite revolutionary. To regain our past glory, we need to attract more audiences to the theater.
