- Valerie (Belén Fabra) is a middle-aged girl who stays with her grandmother Abuela (Geraldine Chaplin). The Grandmother expresses regret that she got married to Valerie's grandfather. If she had a choice, she would not have married & have had sex as much as she can. The grandmother also suggests Val keep a diary as it can help provide clarity.
She lost her virginity at 16 & loved the experience of sex with her first partner Eduardo. Even 14 years later, she loves Sex & likes to experiment with as many sexual partners as possible in as many positions as possible. Val loses many partners as they can't keep pace with her sexual appetite. She is late to work due to her late-night sex sessions with different partners. Her coworker friend tries to talk her out of her wild ways & to look for love.
A particularly stable lover, Alex, leaves her as he has a girlfriend. Alex tires of Val's excessive sexual needs and angrily breaks up with her. Val later goes to an empty train station, where she meets a stranger and has sex with him. When an old friend, Hassan, visits Barcelona, she leaves work early in order to have sex with him. The following day, Val shows up late for work, which eventually leads to her dismissal from the job.
Then her grandmother dies & Val is alone for the first time in her life. Val attends two job interviews. The second interviewer, Jaime, is attracted to her and asks her out. Jamie Rajas (Leonardo Sbaraglia) refuses to hire her in his company as he really likes her. Against her usual self, Val decides not to have sex with him after their first date. Val falls in love with him without even having slept with him.
But the first time she does sleep with Jamie, he is really quick & Val has a terrible time. Jamie is really rich & gets her a brand-new apartment & treats her very nice. Val is worried about his extravagant lifestyle.
The sex is still not great, but Val really believes that Jamie loves her dearly & is devoted to him. However, Val soon realizes that Jaime is bipolar, and he constantly flips between kind affection and cruel abuse. She wants to pay for the house that Jamie bought for her & she gets a job at a fashion firm with an Italian Boss, Harry. But Jamie is really upset & feels jealous. He even insinuates that Val got hired because of her sexual appeal rather than her qualifications. Jamie's obsession gets worse & he even barges into Val's workplace & threatens Harry of trying to sleep with her.
Val meets her previous lovers & they tell her that she is unrecognizable & that she needs to be alone. Val is still faithful to Jamie as she believes he loves her. The day she finds she is expecting, she finds Jamie does drugs & hires prostitutes for threesomes. He refuses to accept the baby as his & claims that he has been sterile for years. Val decides to leave Jamie, has left her job & is in deep debt. Val decides to leave Jaime and move out. When Val is packing her belongings with the help of her friend Sonia (Llum Barrera), Jaime shows up and threatens Val. Val gets an abortion & moves out of Jamie's apartment despite his threats. She manages to leave and go to Sonia's house.
One day, Sonia realizes that Val left her house without informing her. Sonia tracks her down to a small run-down apartment. Unemployed and having lost all her savings to pay for Jaime's extravagant lifestyle, a depressed Val contemplates suicide by jumping from her apartment window but eventually decides against it. She nearly loses her mind & life but recovers with the help of her erstwhile colleague from work, who is the only constant in her life. Val has gone without an orgasm for months & now her body is aroused.
She gets a job at a high-end brothel. She now gets paid for doing what she loves, having sex. The madam controls all the women working for her. Val meets a Brazilian woman, Cindy, who works for the same brothel and they become close.
She meets many new lovers in her new job, along with Giovanni (Antonio Garrido) who pleasures her like no man has done before. She starts having feelings for Giovanni. But another client, Pedro, gets obsessed with Val. Pedro, another customer, keeps on telling her that he loves her and wants to marry her, but he tries to control her with his money and wants to have overly aggressive sex with her. When she resists, he pays extra to get Valerie out of the brothel in a hotel suite. There he abuses her physically & even has sex with her in the rear.
Valerie wants to be alone, but her madame tells her that the next client is Giovanni & she agrees. Giovanni has a friend & has ordered another girl. Val is excited when he books her again, but when she meets him in his hotel suite, he has decided to give her to his friend. Giovanni goes with the other girl & sends Val with his friend. She realizes that as a prostitute she is someone else's property & has no life of her own. Without bothering to collect her money, Val runs away from his hotel suite. When she returns to the brothel the following day, Cindy kills herself by jumping out from a window.
Val starts to re-evaluate her life and soon decides this is not the life she wants. She informs the madam that she wants to leave the brothel. Though the madam tries to convince her to stay and then abuses her and threatens her, Val is determined and leaves the brothel.
Val goes to Sonia's house. Sonia is happily married to a man, and Val informs her that she has left the brothel. Sonia is very happy for Val. When Val returns to her apartment, she sees a man living in her apartment building who she noticed peeping on her earlier. She asks him if he wants to go to her place. He replies that he does not have any money, to which she replies, "That's okay, it's not necessary", indicating that she has resorted to her old way of free-spirited living.
