Another cracking finale.
Sleepin_Dragon2 February 2020
I think the sign of a great series is when it feels as if it's over before it's even began, Vera very much feels like that. Four very good episodes, this excellent finale continues the trend.

We get an explosive start and finish, and a very deep, well crafted mystery at the core. There were some excellent characters, and plenty of suspects, although for the first time this series I managed to work it out.

It deals with addiction and betrayal, very well written. Loved the visuals, of anyone knows where to obtain that Greyhound lamp I'd love to know.

Best news of all that it's returning next year. A great round off to an excellent series. 9/10

No credit.

Why isn't the wh cast listed? I hate when other actors aren't listed, like they don't matter. Season 10 episode 4 had faces I recognized, but no names for them.

De'Ath, Despair and Dogs
safenoe29 December 2020
This is the season 10 finale, and thankfully Vera returns for season 11! The Escape Turn has many twists and turns, so much that I had to say a character's name out loud to keep a mental sticky note in my head for a flowchart of connections amidst the world of greyhound racing.

Charles De'Ath, who starred in The Last Detective, has a key role in this episode and in its climax.

Hard to keep track at times

Warning: Spoilers
A strong end to a better series. After 24 episodes in the show, we actually see Aiden driving. A good story and acting with all the usual twists and turns. The only negative really was the final scene. I assume something had been cut from the storyline because there was no plausible reason given for why she rehomed Lucky let alone where she took him to unless he was going to turn into a guard dog to replace Duggan Security. Just watched 10 series in 10 days and this was one of the better ones. Hope the next series will be on our screens soon.

The Escape Turn
Prismark1016 February 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Alun Wilmott who an online betting tycoon is killed in a suspected burglary in front of his wife and daughter. The robbers escape with some cash and jewellery.

Vera soon discovers that this is more than just a robbery gone wrong. Wilmott's firm was subject to a hostile takeover bid, they had also been dealing with extortion by cybercriminals. He had even hired a private detective to follow his wife who he suspected of having an affair but she had secretly been going to AA meetings.

The suspects really pile up here. At first it is regarded as being an inside job, the private security firm that carried out patrols around the affluent housing estate comes under suspicion. Then there are problem gamblers encouraged to get in debt by Wilmot's company. One problem gambler turns up dead and Vera knows someone is trying to cover their tracks.

The episode really goes off with a startling bang and it does try to wrongly signpost the viewer. As with these things, a shot on someone innocuous for just a second or two too long gives a strong hint. A line spoken by another person might have tipped off Vera.

I did find this lulling in the middle before lashings of more suspects are added. It should had been obvious to Vera who was behind the cyber attack.

Suspend disbelief!
DoctorStrabismus3 September 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Sorry, I can't suspend my disbelief this far.

This wealthy woman, supposedly a caring mother, is worried that her relationship with her teenage daughter is not as good as it might be. Well, she's a teenager, isn't she? It goes with the territory.

And her marriage is not all that good, and she is having an affair. So what does she do? She decides it's a great wheeze to persuade her lover to carry out a fake home-invasion and hold-up at gunpoint of herself and her teenage daughter, and then shoot her husband, right in front of the daughter.

And what did the lover have in his favour? Nothing. A nobody.

Of course Vera, Aidan, Kenny, Jac and the others are very well played, for which I give it 5.

But the plot??? Oh dear!!!

The editing and photography? Wtf??
editing_budgie11 April 2020
Really hard to watch this one. The shooting is just weird, bad angles and just very odd. The bad editing doesn't help.

Just a visual mess
