Watch the entire show
Mcdmd0124 November 2019
I'll try not to spoil the show for those who have not seen it. Let me start by saying this was my first time seeing DS comedy and I was truly amazed. Yes he's vulgar but the title should tip off anyone to that fact (avoid it if you have a sensitive ear). His comedy is self-deprecating and relatable at the same time. He weaves interesting stories together with a maturity beyond his years. Watch for those Nigel moments!

As for the "Ted Talk" ending some have found unsettling: it's pure genius. This is an intimate look at a serious, topical issue told as only a master comedian could.

Not a bad special...
Brad_G3513 November 2019
I did see an article where the comic thought this special would cancel him. There are plenty of laughs throughout. I think it was a bit too long clocking in at 88 minutes but it wasn't boring.

This is probably one of the best approaches to discussing some of these topics that I've seen. That's not to say... most people that would be triggered instead of discussing will probably watch 30 minutes of this special and turn it off before the meat of the special comes.

It'll be interesting to see where this guy takes his career. I'll be paying attention.

Not bad at all.

Warning: Spoilers
I watched this just the other night. I actually turned it on by accident and was pleasantly surprised. His jokes were funny and timely. Be warned he does use British idioms that will throw the less worldly off, but don't be turned away by that you will still get the joke. He does pull a bait and switch at the end to talk about the serious subject of rape.

Absolutely brilliant, in clear Daniel Sloss fashion!

Obviously this not your standard comedy special, but that is the beauty of it. Daniel Sloss has very clearly established this unique style in his three comedy specials, and there is no doubt he cares deeply about explaining why you can and should try and find humor in life's most difficult moments. I absolutely love his style of comedy, and for me he is right up there with CK, Gervais, Burr, Jeffries.

The truth about Daniel Sloss
ulisseparisartuso16 June 2020
Many of those who appear to be mad about the fact that within thi special Daniel deals with actual serious topics are plain out ignorant people. If feel like shedding some light on the matter, so here we go. Comedy is a genre that from the most ancient of times deals with taboos and subjects that would normally be extremely hard to talk about. Daniel Sloss has always managed to take this approach one step further by talking about extremely unpleasant subjects and mixing them with dark jokes and his very own peculiar brand of comedy. Personally I've loved Daniel's brand of humor from day one, but if you're not familiar with it, don't watch this. Acclimate yourself first, this is not meant to be easy and it's a milestone for someone I think to be one of the best comedians the world has to offer right now. Do not watch this expecting it to be light, this is sensitive stuff and it's meant to be heard as well as it's meant to be hard on you. Oh, and it's obviously flipping hilarious.

Everyone here is offended, why?
sandrakaae12 November 2019
I've been reading the few reviews and I gotta say, you must not understand why he's doing what he's doing? I watched his show live and the entire room went from crying laughing to being the most tense setting ever, and then back to crying laughing, all in the span of 2 minutes. The man is an artist when it comes to this exact kind of comedy, because he talks about what needs to be talked about in a way where, like he says himself: "if you disagree, you're an assh*le" His opinions aren't radical, and his humor has always been with a serious side note, this time just happened to be something that effects nearly every woman out there, which sadly also affected his dear friend; Rape. I think it's more than wonderful that he's able to use comedy as a gateway to highlight just how pressing this concern is, because a lot of people won't listen. He uses his white male privilege to speak about something important, like he has done since his first comedy show. The only difference here is that more people now feel called out, because like he said in his show, he's "warming up the water to boil the frogs alive". He is an awesome comedian and his humor is wonderful, he understands his audience in such a spectacular way that he predicts what we will think and feel about the things he says, and nothing says great comedian quite like that.

TL/DR: he's right, you're wrong. He always has and hopefully always will be the one comedian that who tackles issues like broken relationships and rape, while making such original and downright hilarious content that you can't help but be entranced. He's the cream of the crop, and just because his humor is dark doesn't mean it should be dismissed. It's rare to find a comedian who is quite so talented at keeping that perfect balance.

Excellent
connorcampbell-099707 December 2019
The last specials of Daniel Sloss were excellent. This is another one along the journey. The narrative is excellent, the disguised call backs are on another level. Everyone is talking about it being a ted talk, but it's not. It's just an excellent weaving of a meaningful performance mixed with comedy. And it still has enough to make you cry laughing. I personally think Sloss is bringing comedy onto another level. Plenty have touched upon #metoo, but have been preachy and virtue signalling. This is totally different and a fantastic performance.

Incredible!

DS manages to tackle a difficult topic sensitively and respectfully whilst also delivering a strong message to everyone out there. I can't wait to see where he goes from here.

Quite Perfect
chtsimone23 December 2020
I never thought I'll find an another comedian that I will just ADORE. Ricky Gervais set a very high standard for me. Daniel Sloss, however, is right up there next to Ricky, being one of my now two favorite comedians. Everything, from the subjects Daniel chooses to the way he approaches them, his morbidly funny dark sense of humor (I've been lacking this with Ricky because, despite the fact the his soh is indeed dark, it is not at the same level of harshness and is not as aggressively dark as the one in my - and apparently Daniel's - head is) and how he uses his shows not only for comedy but also to talk about really important issues (as he said in this one "I finish my shows with a sad 15 minutes TED talk), I am just absolutely amazed and mesmerised. What a fine comedian. And what an extraordinary feeling when you resonate with someone on such a high level and you suddenly feel like being such a sometimes inadequate jerk and moron is ok-ay!

Master comedian
hakangg16 October 2020
Like her shows on Netflix, it impressed me again. A comedian who makes good use of dark humor. During his show, laughter, sadness, surprise, etc. you feel your emotions. This is not a show you will just laugh and forget. A catchy and must-watch show. If you turned it off after watching it for the first 30 minutes, you have lost a lot. I highly recommend it.

Half Comedy Half Ted Talk
peckbanyutong9 November 2019
Comedy for the first half, Ted talk for the second half. And as powerful as the message was, I felt like my time was hijacked. If you pay attention to the audio, the first half is filled with laughter and the second half is filled with silence. At the end, the audience clapped. It might be a good ted talk but the latter half can barely claim to be comedy.

So good!

I never knew Daniel Sloss had done a third special until I got HBO Max. His humor is second to none, and the way he crafts his jokes is genius. To make such serious topics so funny just shows how great of a comedian he is.

Worth Every Second!
tamarashipp22 December 2023
Daniel Sloss has the ability to discuss very hard topics in a way that is approachable, hilarious, and very out there, but he is so careful to never cross the line. He tells hard truths, owns his own mistakes and uses his life to bring joy and laughter to people while still working to enlighten and encourage. As a women This show meant more to me than words can express, and I respect the courage it takes to talk about this. Not for kids but I recommend all my adult friends watch this and show support for this man who is doing what he can, who learns and supports and stands firm for what he knows is right no matter how uncomfortable. Love this! Love him!

Not a Comedy Special
billyboy_446 November 2019
It would be a great Ted Talk on sexual assault but definitely not a comedy special. It's fine but I don't appreciate the bait and switch approach of suckering people into a lecture.

Playing it safe
davidbourke-0711028 August 2021
Daniel Sloss tries too hard to tackle difficult subjects, but unlike Frankie Boyle, he doesn't have the wit or charisma to make it work.

As with his other shows, it's more of a lecture than a comedy. To put it simply: Needs more jokes.

I didn't find this funny at all!
cjardine-4582817 September 2023
I had a message from a friend in India saying he'd seen a really funny Scottish comedian, as I am Scottish he suggested I watched it.

Wow, it was really bad. I didn't laugh once and felt the whole thing was forced and whiny. I can not imagine any Scottish person would enjoy this.

Vulgar for the sake of vulgar isn't funny it's just awkward and this whole thing had an awkward cringey feel to it and I won't be watching any more of his stuff. I think comedy has to be at least clever to work and this just stinks of a middle class school boy being vulgar.

Not funny at all unless perhaps in a conservative country like India where the vulgar talk is shocking. If you were in this guys company you'd walk away from him, whiny, posh guy trying very hard to be controversial but just being cringe!

Preachy, funny forgotten or forced
milosek15 May 2023
Too long of set-ups because of the constant preachiness, only to get to easily predictable punchlines.

Had pretty much same jokes done by Bill Burr and Louis CK. I get it if you perform similar jokes to people who are not established, it can happen, but these are two of the most famous comedians out there.

Also, there's nothing less edgy than constantly having to proclaim "I'm so edgy". Surely, it also doesn't go hand in hand with the Ted Talk-y style.

Which wasn't reserved for the last part of the special, as the comedian said so himself. That part was public therapy.

Had big hopes of him when he came up on the scene, yet he swam with the tide.

3/10. The most unfunny stand up comedy of all time
athanasiosze24 February 2024
I love stand up comedy, i've watched many tv shows. I didn't necessarilly agree with the sociopolitical context, there were comedians i even disliked as persons but i didn't care about any of this. My only criterion is if it made me laugh. I would give a high or a good rating to any tv show that made me laugh, irregardless of the political/ideological stance of the comedian.

First part of this tv show made me smile a couple of times, but i never laughed. Sloss was trying hard to copy other famous comedians but it's difficult when you are not charismatic. A successful comedian never tries hard, everything is just coming naturally to them. It was like watching a 15 years old teenager trying to be edgy and provocative, whilst he has zero experience in life. Everything seemed hypocritical. It was like a bad actor giving a bad acting performance because he has no clue about what he is saying, and he just delivers a speech which someone else wrote for them.

And this was the good part, because the second part was atrocious. He started a rant against men, and the reason was that men don't know anyting about female contraception, like every man is disgusting because he doesn't know how tampon works. You can accuse men for a million things. And you will be often right. Probablt not for this though. Still, at first, i didn't mind it, maybe men indeed should learn a few things. But this rant lasted over 15 minutes. So, i stopped watching it. If i respected myself more, i would stop it way earlier, but i wanted to watch the whole tv show before i review it. It's not fair to review/rate a movie or a show without watching it in its entirety. I really tried but i couldn't. This guy was preaching like a priest. I have no problem with lecture, i am eager to know things i don't know, but this guy is not in the position to lecture a man or a woman about anything.

But still, i can tolerate any entitled, self-righteous, ignorant comedian as long as they make me laugh. Unfortunately, he didn't.
