The standard is particularly high once again.

The body of cleaner Luke Sumner is found early one morning by cleaners. It's a suspicious death, his home has no TV, laptop or any of the usual belongings.

A very gritty episode, I'd say this was the best of the series so far, a more easy to understand plot than some for the show. It's a really excellent, deep and clever story, it unravels as you watch it, all you see on the surface isn't exactly what's happening.

I like the fact that the show focuses hugely on the plot, we don't get soap style stories about the team, we know little about them, but I see that as a definite positive.

It is now becoming quite funny how every single week Vera is the last one to arrive at the scene of the crime, calls of here she is, or gov's here. Dear writers please have her there before Aiden just once.

Loved it. 9/10

The body of a young man Luke Sumner is found. He worked for a contract cleaning company, his father had been murdered several years earlier.

Luke had received a bash in the head but had died several hours later, not knowing a bleed in his brain made him a dead man walking.

As always with Vera. The murder investigation is an intricate puzzle that splinters off in different directions.

Luke's employers were not as saintly as they paint themselves out to be. I was surprised that Vera did not comprehend a big clue about them. The high rate of staff turnover!

However an ex girlfriend called Luke a stalker, then his father's killer applied for parole and Luke had an argument with the killer's brother. Then there was something about Luke's actions such as needing to cleanse himself.

Given the entanglement, the mystery was elegantly presented even though it was grim and sad overall. I think Vera showed a lot of empathy with Luke's mother who lost her husband and now her son.

Good episode but unclear ending

Warning: Spoilers
One of the better episodes, but unclear ending. They arrest Georgia, but what exactly is she guilty of? Maybe involuntary homicide but Luke allowed her to hit him because he was partly responsible for her sister's death. Then he fell which was an accident. Neither thought he was seriously injured and he walked away. So what is Georgia's crime and will she go to jail?

Cleaning up the dirt
safenoe30 November 2020
Warning: Spoilers
So many suspects in this episode, the second last of the season. One underlying theme of zero-hour contracts by a cleaning company, along with exploitation behind the benefits (e.g. free accommodation, travel to work). Cleaning is an honorable job, but shame the exploitation is there for people who need work.

One of the many things I like about Vera is the Northumbria countryside.

Emily Stott, who is impressive as Georgia Hay, has a resemblance to Jeni Molitor, an American who has her own Christian TV series.

I wish there could be more focus on the mute members of Vera's team, the ones who attend Vera's briefings but don't say a word. Maybe there should be a behind-the-scenes interview of the actors who play this pivotal extras please.

All About Vera

Think they're making a mistake in sidelining the supporting characters... making it all about Vera, though she's marvelous, is a bit boring...need to bring in running stories about some of the others...
